Sunlight ,air, water soilm plants and animals are examples of renewable resources and Coalm oil and natural gas are examples of non-renewable resources. Natural

resources sould be used carefully. The top layer of the Earth's surface is known as soil. Soil is formed by the breaking up of rocks by wind and water.

The soil found in India are Alluvial soil, Black Soil, Red soil, Laterite soil, Desert soil and Mountain soil. Soil erosion is caused because of deforestation.

Forest is alarge area of land thickly covered with trees.Forests are found in India are Evergreen Forests, Deciduous Forests.Marshy Forests Thorny Forests and Coniferous forests.Water is the most valuable fift of nature . We need water forr drinkingm bathing. washing and cooking. The most important use of water is irrrigation . We canot depend on rain because it is always uncertain. We should not pollute the water by throwing garbage into the river water.should not wash nearby waterbodies..There are many sources of water, Sources of water are of two types ;- one is natural and anothr is artificial. River. ocean. lakes are natural and dam, canal, rainwater harvesting are artificial. Only 1% of total water available on the Earth is freshwater.Minerals are useful substances thatt occur naturally in the Earth. Metallic minerals are minerals from which we get metals. For example.iron from iron ore , copper aluminium manganese,etc.Non-metallic minerals do not contain mettals and are found deep below the surface of the Earth. For example coal, petroleum, mica limestone, salt and precious stones.

large interconnected masses of salty water. The seven continents are Asia, Africa,North America , South America , Antarctica, Europe and Australia and the five oceans are Pacific oceanm the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Arctic Ocean and the Southern Ocean. Meaning of Coral reef:- It is a large undderwater structures composed of skeletons of corals, which are marine animals. The Pacific Ocean is the largest and the deepest Ocean in the world and the Artic ocean is the smallestt ocean in the world. The Equator divides the Earth into two equal halves-the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The lines of latitude are imaginary lines that run parallel to the Equator. The meridians of longitude are imaginary lines running from the North Pole to the South Pole. The lines of latitude and longitude intersect to form a grid. The intersection point of a latitude and longitude is called a coordinate and helps in locating any place on the Earth. The Earth has two kinds of movements - Rotation and Revolution. Definition of Rotation:- The Earth's spinning movement around the Sun on its fixed path is called revolution. The revolution of the Earth and its tilted axis cause change of seasons. The length of days and nights are equal during the equinoxes. The climate of a place is determined by factors such as altitude, distance from the sea, humidity, wind and latitude. The Earth can be divided into three climatic zones- Torrid Zone, Temperate Zone and Frigid Zone. In some areas ,thereis continuous daytime for six months followed by six months of night time.

v.The Equatorial rainforets

The equatorial rainforesttsare found near the Equator, in South America, Africa,Australia and South-East Asia. The climate hereis usually hot and humid. . The vegetation in rainforests grows in distinct layers. The top layer is Emergent layer, second layer is the Canopy and the third layer is known as understorey and lowest layer is the Forest floor. The rainforests are home to largest varieties of plants and animals. Shifting Agriculture and Plantation farming is also practised by some people in the rainforests.Temperate grasslands are found between the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The grasslands in the Northern Hemisphere have hot summrs and very cold winters. North America is known as the Wheat "Wheat Basket of the World".A desert is a place that receives little or no rain. Most hot deserts are located around the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. An oasis is a green area in the desert that has pool of water fed by an underground spring. The Frigid Zones are very cold because they receive only slanting rays of the Sun, The Frigid Zones are located between the Arctic Circle and the North Pole and between the Antarctic . Circle and the South Pole. Some parts of Frigid Zones have almost continuous daylight during summer and continuous night tim during winter. No plants grow in the Frigid Zone due to ice caps and permafrost. All living things and non-living thigs on Erth make up its environment. The hydrosphere, atmosphere , lithosphere and biosphere are the four sphere in the enviornment. All the oceans and other water bodies on the Earth make up the hydrosphere. The biosphere is the part of the enviroment where plants , animals and humans live and grow .

The contamination of the environment -land , water and air by smoke, wste, cheicals and other harmful substances is called pollution. The four main types of pollution are air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution and soil pollution. Air pollution is caused by emission of smoke from factories and t he burning of substances. Meaning of Conservation is the protection of the natural world, the act of conserving.Global warming is a phenomenon caused by air pollution.Ot refers t p rosomg aor temperature around the world. This temperature rise is caused by an increse in the amount of greenhouse gases in the Earth's atmosphere. Nitrogen is essentian for plan growth and is added to the soilby nitrogen producing plants. Such as clove, clove pulses and soya beans. We have learned many ways to control air pollution, soil pollution, noise pollution, water pollution.Natural phenomena that cause damage to life and property are called natural disastes .Earthquakes are caused due to th movement of tectonic plates.Tsunami is a series of huge ocean caused by an underwater earthquake of a volcanic eruption.Cyclones are strong winds which whirl at high speed.India has several historical monuments of great importance . Each part of the country has its own style of architecture. Terracotta is one of the earliest forms of Indian art. There are 379 stairs inside the tower which lead to the top of Kutub Minar .
