Physical & physiological testing of various athletes as well as strength and conditioning and rehabilitation

of these athletes has been done over the last four years. This has included individuals competing on a

variety of levels from club through to internationally. This included sports such as swimming, diving, sprint

kayaking, rugby, soccer and cricket.

My main focus has been on swimmers where I have been working with the university swim team for the

past 10 years doing all there dryland training (strength & conditioning), along with coaching of various

swimming sessions and different squads. This team has risen to the top swimming club in South Africa,

winning all the possible swimming championships (from national age group champs, SA short course

champs and SA Senior swimming champs) in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007. From this club various

swimmers have represented the provincial and national teams or squads.

I have also since 2007 been coaching my own squad, which has included various National champions &

Olympians from different African countries. This has included writing of all swimming programs, planning

of cycles & training prescription using various methods of coaching.

Since August 2012 I have in my role as Deputy Director: Coaching and Performance Management been

TuksSport clubs in challenging their performance development systems.

South African Swimming Squad – Mare Nostrum Tour to Europe – June 2001

Here my job entailed bringing exercise science to the swimmers and applying it during high level

the swimmers had recovered completely and were ready to race again during the next session. Swimmers

were able to talk to me and provide myself and in turn their coaches as to how they were feeling at any

given moment during the competition. This Games also gave me the opportunity to talk to the Sport

Scientists from the other countries and in so doing finding out what they are doing with there athletes.

Any strength requirements were also looked at and assisted with.
