INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES / STUDENT UPDATE

I have been presenting Master Classes in US, Canada, S. Africa, S. Korea, Taiwan, and Mexico. I perform 30 plus concerts a year. Some concerts include educational pre-concert lectures.

Since 2001 I hold Eugene Osadchy Annual Summer Cello Clinic, which has become a great promotional and recruiting venue for UNT College of Music.

Over the years as a result of my recruitment activities there are students from USA, Canada, South Korea, China, Germany, Mexico, Taiwan, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Russia and South Africa in my cello studio at UNT.

In 2015 I presented at the College of Music lecture “The Art of Teaching”. Presently I am working on the article on J. S. Bach’s Six Cello Suites for publication in Cello Forum for the American String

Teacher Association. 2017 presented seminar “Common Musical Misconceptions” for UNT College of Music String Pedagogy Class. In 2017 my former student Ross Gasworth had critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut as a member of The Celeste Trio. 2016 Former student Grace Ho won Grand Prize at 2016 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition and became the Principal

Cellist of the Miami Symphony Orchestra. Dominic Na, DMA won teaching position at the University of Arkansas; performed Dvorak concerto with 2016 UNT

Orchestra Symposium. Dan Totan, DMA is an adjunct professor at the Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, TX; he is a Principal Cellist of

the Irvine Symphony Orchestra, TX; cellist with The Plano Symphony Orchestra; In summer of 2016 participated with UNT music faculty tour of Viet Nam.

In 2016 Lejing Zhou, DMA won position with Plano Symphony Orchestra, TX Sydney ZumMallen toured with UNT music faculty in Chili, Peru, she also was accepted to 2016 The Tafelmusik Festival,

Toronto, Canada. She performed with UNT faculty at Con Prontezza-Virtuose Venezianische Barockmusik, Germany and was accepted to Royal Conservatoire of Nederland, Holland

Former student Eric Smith collaborates with the Dallas Bach Society, Orchestra of New Spain, Texas Camerata, Ars Lyrica, Ensemble VIII, Denton Bach Society, Dallas Chamber Players, Bach Society of Houston, Mountainside Baroque, New York’s Concert Royal, and the New York Baroque Dance Company, the Boston Early Music Festival, Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Crested Butte Music Festival, Misiones de Chiquitos Festival (Bolivia), Cervantino Festival (Mexico), Les Nuits Baroques (France). Top, TX. Grace also performed as a soloist with Aikuang Sun Orchestra in New York and Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra.

Meredith McCook, BM won the Second Prize in 2009 Texas Young Artist Competition and was accepted to Manhattan School of Music for Graduate Degree. Meredith also took part in Summit International Festival, Purchase, NY.

In 2008 our undergraduate student Meredith McCook became a Winner of the UNT Concerto Competition. In 2007 she was participant at Tanglewood Festival and in 2008 at Pinchas Zukerman Summer Chamber Music Camp in Ottawa, Canada.

In 2008 our undergraduate student Eric Smith performed concerts in Boston and in tour of Latin America with UNT Collegium. He was offered Assistant Principal Chair with Santa Fe Baroque Orchestra. Eric was also coordinator and TA for 5th and 6th Annual North Texas Summer Cello Clinic.

In 2007 BA student Cara Straud participated in The Institute for Strings (TIFS) in Dallas, Baroque Music Festival in Connecticut and Music in the Mountains Festival in Durango, Colorado.

In 2007 we have presented UNT Graduate Quartet in two Middle Schools in Fort Worth, TX and helped to prepare the Graduate Quartet’ tour of China which took place in the summer 2007.

In 2007 our Graduate student Anna Garcia was coordinator and TA for 7th Annual North Texas Summer Cello Clinic. In 2005 and 2006 our undergraduate student Grace Ho was the finalist at Lynn Harrell Competition in Dallas twice and in

2006 was a Winner of Dallas Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition. She was also the Winner of 2007 UNT Concerto Competition. In December 2007 Grace performed Beethoven Triple Concerto in Taipei, Taiwan.

In 2005 our undergraduate student Kevin Park as a member of Black Pearl Piano Trio won Lewisville Chamber Music Competition and traveled to Czech Republic as a part of UNT College of Music delegation. The Trio has been extensively performing in Metroplex area, promoting UNT College of Music.

My former UNT student Shawna Hamilton is currently Assistant Principal with Dallas Opera Orchestra and Principal Cellist with East Texas Symphony Orchestra.

My former DMA students Clay Couturiaux and Tido Janssen have gotten teaching positions at University of North Texas and University of Alberta, Canada respectively.

My former student Gyongy Erodi was principal cellist of the European Union Baroque Orchestra 2006-2007 season. She is also first cellist of the Dresdner Barockorchester, the Dallas Bach Society, Orchestra of New Spain and the recently founded Harmony of Nations Baroque Orchestra. She holds a TA for Baroque cello and early Music ensembles at the University of North Texas.

In 2003 my undergraduate student Matthew Epperson was the Winner of the UNT Concerto Competition. My former students Eric Smith, David Fernandez, Linden Freels, Stacy Weil, and Angela Harvey have full time positions as

In 2007 my 11 years old student Shira Beder became the youngest cello player ever accepted to Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra. The following year she was Grand Prize Winner at the 2008 Collin County Young Artist Competition and performed as a soloist with Plano Symphony at the Eisemann Center, Richardson, TX.

In 2006 my 13 year old student Oliver Aldort won the First Prize in the USA national competitions for junior strings, organized by MTNA (Music Teachers National Association)

In 1998 my student Earl Lee became a Winner of Canada’s National Music Competition in the chamber music division. He received his Bachelor Degree at the Curtis Institute of Music where he served as the principal cellist of the Symphony Orchestra. He finished his Master’s Degree at the Juilliard School. Mr. Lee has been regular participant at the Marlboro Music Festival, Musicians from Angel Fire, and the Rising Star series from Caramoor, where he collaborated with members of the Guarneri Quartet, Juilliard Quartet, Orion Quartet and Cleveland quartet. Mr. Lee is a member of the Koryo String Quartet, which recently joined the roster of Astral Artistic Services after winning their national auditions.

In 1996 my student Neil Janmohamed won the title of the Best Student of Vancouver Academy.

STATEMENT OF MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY AND GOALS

My teaching goals are to provide guidance for young musicians that would help them to become excellent cellists, as well as

complete musicians, artists, and teachers. I encourage my students to attend as many concerts as they can, to listen to different performers, master classes, to use any opportunity to perform chamber music, to take lessons from different teachers and to be open to different ideas. work.

I help them to develop stamina and courage to constantly push and challenge themselves, use all their intelligence, patience and endurance to achieve their professional goals

I guide my students to apply all their musical knowledge to their concert performances, to keep cultivating expressiveness of their tone, style, personality, elegance, finesse, full range of emotions, overall intelligence and staying alert against any occurrence of a bad taste. My students learn not only how to sing on the cello, but how to speak as well. They learn to portray various emotions – after all it is the world of emotions we are presenting to our audiences. They learn and understand that a convincing performance of any composition demands a peculiar combination of extroversion and introversion, rhetoric and aristocracy, brilliance and intimacy.

During my private lessons and weekly Studio Classes we explore the following ideas and topics: The basic approach to practicing; The physiology of playing cello and correcting physical problems through the relaxation and learning the art of self-

observation; Collaborating with other musicians, knowing what it takes and how to achieve the most productive rehearsals and

enjoyable performances; Preparation for orchestra auditions and understanding what is expected; Practicing orchestra parts for the upcoming UNT Symphony concerts; Working with scores and different methods of rehearsing chamber music. Recognizing the intentions of the composer; How to think of and align themselves with greatness; Developing a noble attitude toward the Art; Developing new forms of insight trough Attention and Intention, Intellect and Intuition; Development of analytical ability and deep inner listening. Developing Empathy- the person’s capacity of participating in another’s feelings or ideas. To be completely engaged with what they are doing in the here and now, instead of calling it Work; realize it is

Play. Understanding Who one wants to become is already here. All “challenges” are not really challenges, but the way to bring you closer to all your potentials, to who you really

are. It is a journey of self-realization. Understanding that you are already the Master, now you just have to be the Master, to became the Master. You are

creating the future version of yourself NOW! To be clear of what you want to become and what you should or shouldn’t do in order to get there. Your actions

should be aligned accordingly with your vision of yourself in the future and what are you trying to accomplish.

For the 100th Anniversary of D. Shostakovich’s birth, I have completed the arrangements of his Preludes, Op.34 for Cello and violin as well as for String Trio.

The English musicologist Ernest Newman wrote that the sonata consists “mostly of a fog opening now and then, and giving us a momentary glimpse of ravishingly beautiful countryside.” If this is what Debussy had indeed intended, Osadchy and Rowe captured it brilliantly... Osadchy’s playing was outstanding, with a lovely tone and sensitive phrasing… After a standing ovation, Osadchy and Rowe returned to the stage and treated the audience to Schubert’s “Du bist die Ruh” (Op. 59, No. 3; D.776). The long, singing lines of Schubert’s melody are ideally suited for Osadchy’s bold tone, and the accompaniment provided by Rowe was, as we’ve come to expect, nuanced and sensitive to his partner’s playing. All in all, this was an excellent conclusion to a wonderful evening of music-making.”

“In Prokofiev cello Sonata, Op.119 Osadchy's playing was absolutely gorgeous. He has a rich, full, round cello tone, beautiful vibrato which he adjusts to the mood of each movement and superlative technical finesse. Prokofiev can throw some unusual demands at the string player especially, and Osadchy managed them with brilliance. The ending of the first movement was spine-tingling, principally because the two musicians were working together to create one piece of Prokofievian lushness.
