Using the Latest

Technology in K-12

In this workshop learn ways in incorporate

technology into the everyday classroom. Explore

current trends in STEM education including robotics,

makerspaces, chromebooks, and web services to

enhance learning and evaluation in all subject

areas. Discover how the latest technology

innovations will help you teach and enhance your

students learning and discovery.

On Day 1, you will learn effective methods of

teaching listening, speaking, reading, vocabulary,

grammar, and culture to ELL students.

On Day 2, you will learn to teach academic content

to ELLs using sheltered instructional strategies,

such as Specially Designed Academic Instruction in

English (SDAIE) and the Cognitive Academic

Language Learning Approach (CALLA).

Mel Wade, Ed.D. Mel Wade is a veteran teacher

and technology professional with

a masters degree in Curriculum

and Instruction. He is the

Technology Director for

Sacramento Adventist Academy

and teaches technology classes

for elementary through high

school. Mel is the director and

founder of the Adventist Robotics

League and enjoys helping

teachers integrate technology into

their classrooms.

August Champlin M.A. August Champlin has 17 years

of experience teaching Eng-

lish language learners. For 6

1/2 years, he lived in South

Korea, where he taught English

as a Foreign Language using a

variety of approaches and in a

variety of educational contexts.

In the States, he has taught for

10 1/2 years. His specialization

is teaching writing to second

language learners; however, he has also taught ESL Read-

ing, Grammar, Vocabulary and Idioms, American Conversa-

tion and Culture, Academic Skills, Music Appreciation, and

Religion to ESL or EFL students. August has a BA in Music,

an MA in English, an MA in Education, a TESOL Certificate,

and is pursuing his Ph.D. in Education at UCR, where his

dissertation topic is the educational experiences of

international students at private Christian schools. In

addition to his interests in second language acquisition,

August studies educational sociology and the history of

education.
