Katwijk aan Zee currently has a weak coastal defence. In cooperation with ARCADIS, OKRA have designed a new and safe coastal area. A special feature within the coastal defense is the underground parking garage, which was developed with the municipality of Katwijk. The focus of the design is to create a good connection between coast and village, together with recreational use in the new dune area.

Role: Since 2010 Bart has a role as project manager.

Client: Kanton Basel StadtYear 2011

The design of the public space reveals the underlying landscape of the hills, the river valley and the riverfront. This is reinforced by the program-ming concept creating busy and quiet places in the city, defined to match the atmosphere of the area. The result is a vivid green landscape city where residents and visitors can experience the character of the city.
