Marymount SUMMER Current Student Courses & descriptions Period 1 ~ 8:15-10:15 AM Algebra I Review This course covers all topics normally included in the Algebra I syllabus. Special areas of study are: operations with polynomials, solution of linear and quadratic equations, solution of linear inequalities, graphing of linear equations and inequalities, operations with radicals, and the analysis and solution of word problems. Students must have completed Algebra I in a high school program to enroll in this course. It is not designed to be an introduction to, or to take the place of, a full course in Algebra I. $750 Introduction to Geometry This class is designed for students who will be taking Geometry in the fall. It is an introduction to the deductive logic and critical thinking skills necessary in Geometry. Students will work with triangles, quadrilaterals, general polygons, and circles. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of right triangles and the area and volume of plane and solid figures with a particular focus on the geometric concepts included on standardized tests, such as the PSAT and SAT. Students will develop mathematical problem solving techniques as well as the study skills and test- taking skills necessary for future success in high school math. $750 Physical Education for Sport & Recreation (one semester credit) This P.E. class is designed to offer a fun and functional experience while earning a semester of P.E. credit. This course is open to any student in grades 6-12 interested in developing skills in a variety of activities, including both individual and team sports. Students will experience the fun and joy of staying active and getting fit, leading them to discover how physical activity can always be enjoyable. $750 Period 2 ~ 10:30 AM-12:30 PM Visual Arts I (one semester credit) This course acquaints the student with the elements and principles of design through drawing, painting, clay, and mixed media. The basic elements of realistic drawing are introduced enabling the student to create solid three-dimensional forms. Design-oriented painting is stressed, concentrating on color and shape relationships. Functional and decorative work in ceramics will also be introduced. $800 Advanced Visual Arts I / AP Studio Art Portfolio Development (one semester credit) Students work to further develop their drawing and painting skills. Emphasis is placed on creative thinking, problem solving and building an aesthetic vocabulary. Students experiment with a variety of media and styles while working on subjects such as still life, landscape, portraiture and editorial illustration.
