Greetings Sorors, Amicae, and Friends of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:
It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I invite you to the 2014 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Leadership
Conference (2014 CPLC). This conference will be held April 11-12, 2014 in the City of Brotherly Love, Sisterly
Affection & the home of Honorable Founder - Arizona C. Stemons. The Support Chapter for the conference is Beta
Delta Zeta.
The focus for the 2014 CPLC is Keeping it R.E.E.L. (Reflect Explore Empower Leaders) and this
conference will allow for us to come together to take care of the business of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
have fun at the Friday Night Old School Block Party Reception and to receive professional development
through engaging and interactive workshops by dynamic Zeta and non-Zeta presenters. The 2014 CPLC State
Marshals, Soror Shanté C. Dash and Soror Margaret Peoples Marsh, along with the entire support chapter, are
hard at work to ensure that everyone’s experience is memorable, joyful and reflective. They are poised to
welcome you with grace, warmth and open arms.
During your time in the City of Brotherly Love & Sisterly Affection, I hope that you will get an opportunity to visit the
many historical sites Philadelphia has to offer and to grab a “Philly Cheesesteak, soft pretzel and Tastykake –
items in which Philadelphia is known for across the country.
Before closing, I would like to thank each of your for attending our leadership conference and bringing your
expertise to our gathering. As the leaders of our great sisterhood, you have the vision, the knowledge, the
wherewithal and the experience to help us blaze and pave our way into the future. You are truly our greatest asset
today and tomorrow, and we could not accomplish what we do without your support and leadership. Throughout
this conference, I ask you to stay engaged, keep us proactive and help us shape the future of Zeta Phi Beta

It is with great pleasure that we greet you on behalf of the 2014 Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania Leadership Planning Committee supported by Beta Delta Zeta
Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The hotel

Greetings Sorors, Amicae, Youth, and Guests of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, On behalf of Beta Delta Zeta Chapter, our Undergraduates, Amicae and Youth Auxiliaries, it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the city of brotherly love and sisterly affection for the 2014 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Leadership Conference! We are excited to receive you in the historic City of Philadelphia to conduct the business of our sisterhood, fellowship, and grow. While you are here, I also encourage you to take full advantage of the many cultural, dining, and shopping opportunities that the city has to offer. Congratulations to our Conference Marshals, Planning Committee, and State leadership for what promises to be a productive and energizing conference. Your dedication is greatly appreciated. WORKSHOPS AT- A-GLANCE (April 11th & 12th)
I. So, you want to be a writer: This workshop will focus on writing tips
and the presenter for this workshop will discuss how to get your book
ideas out of your head and onto the page. You will learn tips on the
writing process, publishing options and much more.
II. Let’s get this party started: This workshop will focus on the do’s and
don’ts of conference and event planning and all you wanted to know and
were afraid to ask: as it pertains to planning and marketing for successful
conferences and events on the Chapter, State, Regional & National
Levels. In addition, strategies and tips on how to effectively market events
and obtain positive and adequate coverage will be discussed and shared.
III. It’s a Different World: “I know my parents love me. Stand behind me
come what may. I know that I’m ready. Because I finally heard them say?
It’s a different world from where you come from. Here’s a chance to
make it. If we focus on our goals. If we dish it we can take it. Just
remember you’ve been told…. It’s a different world from where you
come from.” ~Lyrics from the hit sitcom – It’s a Different World. This
workshop will be interactive and will focus on life after college and how to
incorporate Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. into your world once you leave
college.
IV. This meeting is now called to order & Boule 101: This workshop will
focus on what members need to know and how to follow parliamentary

procedure for efficient and participatory meetings and conferences. The
presenter will demonstrate how to conduct business at leadership
conference and the best way to use parliamentary procedure to get things
done at chapter meetings and leadership conferences. The workshop will
also highlight the role of delegates, non-voting and Life Members at
leadership conferences.
V. MIP Certification Training: This training will review Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority’s new Membership Intake Process. Registration is required
(complete this step when registering for the conference) and sorors must
be financial on all levels and a member of a Pennsylvania Chapter.
Each registered soror will receive a certificate of completion after signing
in, signing out and submitting a Pre MIP Certification Registration Form.
AMICAE WORKSHOPS
I. Amicae Affairs: This workshop will focus on operation and meeting
expected standards, effective auxiliary management, recruitment,
retention and financial procedures
II. Back to the Basics: This workshop is designed to help stimulate
members’ curiosities about parliamentary procedure and how to apply it to
auxiliary meetings. The workshop will also review the process of writing
proposed amendments and how to submit them through the channels to
the State Amicae Phylacter for approval before adoption at a conference.

MIP REGISTRATION FACT SHEET
1. Sign-in for the certification training on April 11, 2014 is: 12:15 p.m. – 12:55 p.m.
2. Each soror must sign-in between the aforementioned timeframe.
3. The doors will be closed at 12:55 p.m. and the certification training will begin at 1:00 pm.
4. Each soror must complete a Pre MIP Registration Form (the form will be emailed to each
soror that indicates through registration she will be attending the training. The form will be
emailed 1 week before the conference; therefore ensure email address is correct).
5. Each soror must sign-in the time and sign-out properly and submit the Pre MIP
Registration Form.
6. MIP Manuals will only be issued to non-certified sorors.
7. Certificates will only be issued to sorors who properly sign-in, sign-out and submit a
completed, signed and dated Pre MIP Registration Form.
8. Who Should Attend:
a) Financial Undergraduate and Graduate Zetas.
b) Zetas who desire to participate in MIP (In order to participate in any aspect of MIP,
sorors must be certified through the new MIP).
c) NOTE: If a soror received certification at ZOL 2013, PA State Round-UP, 55th
Atlantic Regional Leadership Conference, January 18, 2014 Western PA Training
and/ or February 8, 2014 Widener University Training and received a certificate,
then she is NOT required to attend.

Jim Jones is senior partner of BGE Enterprises - a management consulting firm in Washington, D.C., which provides advisory services to employers, boards of directors and senior executives on corporate governance, human resources initiatives and organizational development programs. He has served clients across North and South America and in the Balkans. Jim specializes in governance and conflict management services.
Jim currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Parliamentarians. A past president of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, Jim also has served as director of AIP’s
Accrediting Department which is responsible for setting accreditation standards for professional parliamentarians. Holding the credentials of Certified Professional Parliamentarian and Professional Registered Parliamentarian with AIP and NAP respectively, Jim also is a certified mediator services.
Soror Karen Wright Sanders is a member of the spring 1990 reactivation class for Mu Iota Chapter at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the immediate past phylacter of Beta Delta Zeta Chapter and was honored as the chapter’s “Zeta of the Year” in 2012. Soror Sanders is the current secretary of the Montgomery County Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians (NAP). NAP is an educational organization whose purpose is to study, teach, promote and disseminate the philosophy and principles of parliamentary procedure.

Soror Sanders has attended the sorority’s leadership conferences on the state, regional, and national levels, and has served as a state and national conference delegate. Soror Sanders holds a B.A. in Communications, an MBA in General & Strategic Management, and a certificate in Sports & Event Marketing. She loves all things Boyz II Men and is always planning her next vacation. Soror Sanders is ZOL and MIP certified and proudly became a Life Member in April 2013.
So, you want to be a writer!
When Soror Nicole S. Rouse’s parents decided to name their
firstborn after their favorite literary icon, Nikki Giovanni, they hadn’t
expected their daughter to share the same birth date as the famous
poet. They also had no idea their child would one day become a
published author. Developing a passion for writing at a young age,
Nicole graduated from Temple University, with a degree in Early and
Elementary Education. As a classroom teacher, Nicole took every
opportunity to incorporate her appreciation of various forms of writing
into the curriculum. She became a member of the Northern Virginia Writing Project, where
she promoted and encouraged writing in mathematics. She was also a founding member of
a literacy team that created plays for students to perform and developed workshops for
parents to help their children excel.

Soror Wanda A. Calvin Claiborne is a member and Diamond Life
contributor of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She has been a member
of this illustrious organization since 1982 [Gamma Chapter, Morgan
State University]. After graduation, Soror Claiborne received much
of her Zeta mentoring in Alpha Zeta Chapter. She is currently an
ardent member of Tau Eta Zeta Chapter in Baltimore, Maryland
where she serves as the Vice-Chair of the Sharon K. Harvey
Memorial Foundation. Soror Claiborne holds the position of Meeting
Planner for the Atlantic Region and Events Coordinator for the State
of Maryland. Professionally, Soror Claiborne has been employed as the Director of
Meetings and Bar Liaison for the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) for over 25 years.
She was the first African-American to hold any Director position at the MSBA. Soror
Claiborne obtained her Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) designation in 1998.
It’s a Different World! Soror Karima N. Rose has a long standing commitment to
supporting undergraduates. For the past 12 years, Soror Rose has
served as an Advisor, Third Anti-Basileus, Local Undergraduate
Coordinator, Commonwealth of PA Undergraduate Coordinator

Her passion for undergraduates was planted when she was initiated
as an undergraduate, in 1995 through the Mu Eta Chapter. She

always knew that undergraduates would be part of her Zeta career. It is with this passion
and dedication that Soror Rose will bring inspiration to the workshop- It’s a Different
World. Soror Rose has completed several vision boards in her lifetime and has been
successful in integrating her skills learned within Zeta and professionally for the
advancement of all that she is involved with.

Amicae Affairs!
Soror/Friend Lynnette Hudson is a member of Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, Inc. - Epsilon Rho Zeta Chapter in Bear, Delaware. Since
her initiation into this illustrious organization in the fall of 2008, she
has held the positions of Grammateus, Delaware State Amicae
Coordinator and Epsilon Rho Zeta Chapter Amicae
Sponsor. Currently, Lynette holds the positions of Atlantic Regional
Coordinator for Amicae Affairs, Chapter Second Anti-Basileus and
local Amicae Sponsor. She also serves in the position of Vice
President on the Board of International Cruise Victims Association,
which is a grass root organization that lobbies for victim’s rights.
In 2002, she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Relations from Delaware State
University. She has been employed with State Farm Insurance for 25 years as an auto
claims trainer and leadership liaison. She continues to live her life upholding the principles
of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She is proud to say she is a member of Zeta Phi Beta
Sorority, Inc., a legacy and her sister’s keeper.

Back to the Basics!
Kimberly Matthews joined Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc in 2007
through the Nu Sigma Zeta Chapter in Harrisburg. During her
tenure, she has held the local positions of Tamias and Epistoleus,
as well as, the Chair for the chapter’s Pan Hellenic Committee, and
Advisor to Lock Haven University’s Omega Rho Chapter. On the
state level, Kimberly has held the position of Demographics
Coordinator, and is currently serving as the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania’s Phylacter. Professionally, Kimberly works as an
educator at Penn State Hershey Medical Center Children’s Hospital
where she provides education to chronically ill children.

Soror Jakita R.P. Johnson has been a member of Zeta Phi Beta
since April of 2003, by way of the Gamma Iota chapter at Bucknell
University. Currently, Soror Johnson is a member of Kappa Omega
Zeta chapter, serving as its Phylacter. She has also been given the
opportunity to serve as chair of the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania’s bylaws committee, whose charge is to ensure
bylaws of the Commonwealth are congruent with those of our
National and Regional bodies.
In her professional role, Jakita is an Academic Advisor for Gwynedd
Mercy University. Her main responsibilities include preparing
students for the transition into academic programs, and offering
support and guidance to major and career choices. Previously, Jakita served in the field of
college recruitment for six years.
