The current law of education in Spain is known as LOE (Ley Orgánica de Educación).

State education in Spain is free and compulsory education lasts from 6 to 16 years of age.

Types of schools: State schools Privately run schools funded by the State Purely private schools

Bilingualism: Spanish Catalan

General education is organized as follows:

• Non obligatory:– Kindergarten (0-2 years)– Pre-school education (3-6 years)

• 95% of the children

• Obligatory:– Primary School Education (6-12 years)– Compulsory Secundary Education (12-16 years)

• Non obligatory:– Post-Compulsory Schooling (16-18)

– “Bachillerato”– Professional training

– University (from 18 years old)
