NAPLAN It was great to see our Years 3 & 5 students embrace the NAPLAN tests last week. The school opted to complete the tests on paper again this year so there were no issues experienced in regards to sitting the tests for our students. We are very much looking forward to accessing the data these tests give us and planning for effective supports for our students. We are in particular interested in the data we will receive around our students writing as this is our current area of focus. The students were asked to write a story that involved a gate. They were asked to consider things like; who or what is on the other side of the gate? Is the gate open or closed? They were given 6 different pictures of gates as a stimulus for their writing. Enviro Ed Workshops and Eco-Committee We were fortunate enough to have a visit from our Mayor, Mr Des Kennedy who came to see one of these workshops in action yesterday. He enjoyed learning with the students in K/1D about all the things we can do to reduce waste and help the environment. Most classes will have the opportunity to work with our visiting Education Officer, Natalie Bowen this week. This is a major strategy of our 2019 Environmental Education plan. Our newly appointed Eco-Committee met for the first time yesterday with Mrs Nielsen and Ms Morris from Red Hill EEC. This committee is made up of students from years 2 -6 who are interested in working together to find ways in which we can limit our impact on the environment. This team is working as part of our involvement in the International Eco-Schools strategy. This team is currently considering where their work may focus, with the possibility of embracing our current Enviro Ed workshops around reducing waste. Musica Viva Just a reminder that our whole-school incursion of Musica Viva March of the Antsis on next Monday, 27th May. It is an expectation that all students will be participating in this event as part of their Term 2 Creative Arts Program. Please ensure that if you have not already paid for this that you do so by Friday. Dont forget if you have already paid your voluntary contributions for 2019 participation for your child is already covered. Sport this week Yesterday our Rugby Union team had a great day at the Gala Day in Orange and today our Netballers won their first game, 24-15 against Gulgong PS. Our Netball team will now proceed to the next PSSA round. Thanks to Mrs Lonergan and Mrs Hayes who have worked with these teams. Rachel at State Carnival in Lismore This week Rachel Channon from 5/6D is in Lismore competing at the State Carnival for Girls Football (soccer). Rachel was selected as part of the Western NSW Team, an amazing achievement! I would like to take this opportunity congratulate her on her selection and hope that she is having a wonderful time competing at this elite level. Bailey and Ben in Sydney for State AFL The State Carnival for AFL is also on this week in Penshurst in Sydney and two of our boys were selected as part of the Western NSW team to compete. Bailey Fehon from 5/6D and Ben Harris from 6W are currently in Sydney competing at this carnival along with Mr Wilson who is the Western NSW coach. To be selected in this team is an outstanding achievement and I congratulate Bailey and Ben on this and hope that they are enjoying their time at State. Gulgong Eisteddfod – Speech The Speech section of the Gulgong Eisteddfod is on this Thursday and Friday for schools. We have four classes participating in this section of the eisteddfod. KC, KH and KR will be performing on Thursday and 4A will be performing on Friday. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of these students the very best as they travel to Gulgong to perform and am sorry that I wont be able to come and cheer them on, as I am in Orange for a conference on both days. Kindergarten 2020 Enrolment Enrolment packs for children starting Kindergarten next year can now be collected from the office. Michelle Neaverson-Smith. Principal

Fun Run Claim your Prize The cutoff for prize ordering is this Friday 24

th May.

Login to your child’s account on schoolfundraising.com.au

Check the amount of money raised is correct

Order their prize If they are a few $$ short of their prize you can still donate online to reach their goal. The children can definitely order more than one prize. Eg. A student raised $100 they can chose a prize from $50-74 Range and use $50. Then they can choose from the $30-49 range and it will take $49 so they have used $99. There will be more information about prize ordering shared this week on our Facebook site.

Garden Club Last week we kicked off with a green salad and Jerusalem Artichoke chips made from our garden produce. After lunch, the kids planted broccoli seedlings, removed weeds from our garlic crop, fertilised citrus and seedlings with aged cow manure and watered the whole lot. Mrs Daniell’s Year 3 class came along after the lunchtime session for some garden classroom time. The Garden Club provides a lovely and meaningful activity for students during lunchtime and an outdoor ‘classroom’ for all teachers and classes to use for formal school lessons (yep, STEM, English, Art… can all take place in a garden!). The Kitchen Garden Club AGM will be held on Monday 27th May at 3.20pm in the veggie patch. Positions of Coordinator and Secretary will be declared open at this meeting. If anyone would like to nominate for these positions but cannot make the meeting time, you may nominate and be voted in absentia by contacting the school prior. (CVPS Kitchen Garden is on FB)
