The FOCUS NM2100ct consists of several components available in different versions. Each of thesecomponents are licensed separately for a specific number of network elements.

INSTALLATION MAY ONLY BE MADE PROVIDED THAT:

- YOU HAVE A VALID WRITTEN LICENSE FOR NM2100ct AS WELL AS VERSION SPECIFICLICENSES FOR THE COMPONENTS YOU PLAN TO INSTALL, AND

- YOU HAVE A VALID WRITTEN LICENSE COVERING A SUFFICIENT NUMBER OF NETWORKELEMENTS COMPARED TO YOUR INSTALLED BASE.

2. InstallationThis chapter contains detailed installation instructions for the FOCUS NM2100 Craft Terminal.

2.1 Minimum System RequirementsThe Craft Terminal is supported on Windows 95, 98 and NT 4.0. The minimum system requirements forrunning the FOCUS NM2100ct Release 4.4 on the supported software platforms are stated in the table below.

2.2 Installing the Craft TerminalTo install the Craft Terminal, do the following:

1. Insert the Craft Terminal installation media in the appropriate drive (CD-ROM or floppy drive). Fordetails about the installation media, please refer to section 2.4.

2. Execute the Setup program located in the root of the installation media.

3. You will now be guided through the setup procedure and prompted to supply information if the defaultsettings are not to your satisfaction.

You do not have to uninstall an older version of the NM2100ct before installing the new one.

2.3 Uninstalling the Craft TerminalPerform the following actions in order to remove an older release of the NM2100ct:

1. Select Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.

2. Highlight either the NM2100ct (for release 3.x) or NM2100 Craft Terminal (for release 4.x) entry fromthe list and click Add/Remove.

3. Click OK.

Following this you should inspect the environment setup and remove all environment variables related toolder versions. To do this perform the following actions:

1. Start Notepad by selecting Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad.

2. Select File -> Open and open autoexec.bat in the root directory.

3. Delete any variables in path entries relating to the Craft Terminal.

4. Delete any lines containing entries relating to Craft Terminal

5. Reboot the PC.

2.4 Creating Floppy Installation DisksThe Craft Terminal is distributed on CD-ROM only. However, it is possible for you to create a set of floppyinstallation disks from the CD-ROM, should you need it. Perform the following actions to create a set offloppy disks:

1. You will need a PC with both a CD-ROM drive and a 3½” floppy drive to create the floppy disk images.

2. Insert the NM2100 Craft Terminal CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive.

3. Open a Windows Explorer, locate the CD-ROM, and open the FloppyDisks directory. This directorycontains a number of subdirectories, each named disk<n>, where <n> is a number.

4. Determine the required number of empty 3½” 1.44 MB floppy disks by finding the directory with thehighest <n> number.

5. The FloppyDisks directory also contains a command file called CreateFloppyDisks.bat. This file willaid you in creating the floppy disks correctly. Execute this file as follows:

CreateFloppyDisks <floppy drive:>

where <floppy drive:> should be the name of your floppy drive (for instance a:)

6. Make sure to label each floppy disk with the following information: NM2100 Craft Terminal, release<release number>, build <build number>, disk <disk number>. The command file will tell you whento insert which disk.

Note: Do not call the command file called CopySingleDisk.bat directly. This file is called from theCreateFloppyDisks.bat file.

3. Problem reportingThis part of the release note is a procedure that describes what to do if serious problems occur while usingFOCUS NM2100. By following this procedure, it is ensured that all the necessary information is collected tosolve your problem.

3.1 Information to be collected and documented

The following information should be collected and documented. Please make a copy of these pages and giveit to your Tellabs Supporter, before further actions are taken.

Do not reinstall or import backup databases without first going through this procedure.

3.2 Log recoveryThe Craft Terminal log files should always be recovered. This will give Tellabs Support a better chance ofreproducing and analysing the fault:

1. Close NM2100ct.2. Wait for CPU usage to drop.3. Stop the servers.4. Make a new folder named “nm2100files_YYMMDD” under c:\temp (fill out YYMMDD with the

current date).5. Export alarm log to text files if possible.6. Copy the resulting file: “bin\AlarmLog.txt” to the folder created in step 4.7. Copy “bin\log-*.*”, “bin\Logs\*.*”, and “bin\version.txt” to the folder created in step 4.

Make sure the data in the folder “nm2100files YYMMDD” is given to Tellabs Support.

4. Issues RegisterThis chapter describes the open issues with this release of the NM2100ct.

4.1 Special NotesThis section describes open issues, which are not likely to be addressed in future releases. Please read thefollowing subsections carefully before installing and/or using the EM software.

4.1.1 Serial Settings on older PCsIf you experience problems with establishing serial communication to F2-140 equipment on older PCs (90MHz Pentiums or similar), try to disable the FIFO for the used COM port.

This is done in the Control Panel →→→→ Ports →→→→ Advanced window, by clearing the checkmark in the "UseFIFO Buffers" option.

4.1.2 Corrected ProblemsCompared to release 4.3 (build 51J) the following problems has been corrected in R4.4 (build 57C):
