Instructor Led Technical Courses

As we enter our 12th year of delivering quality education to the automotive service industry we are happy to announce a change in the way we package our instructor led program. As always our promise to you is to provide 6 classes over the course of 12 months giving you access to the information needed to solve your customer’s vehicle problems. However instead of limiting the program to just 6 classes, your local region will offer a continuous ongoing program that never ends. Our promise is to deliver 6 classes every 12 months. As a class is delivered a new class will be added to the end of the schedule. Each class is delivered about every other month. You will always be able to see your 12 month schedule on our website www.CARQUEST.com/CTI. In addition we will be including service consultant training in the lineups. This will allow your entire team to stay current and help build your business to new heights.

But the best news about our new program is the price. Instead of billing you for a large flat fee at the beginning of each season we now bill you a small monthly fee. Today the cost to join a CTI region is $99.00 per month for a full shop and $59.00 per month for a one-tech shop. This makes budgeting for training simple and easy.

As always, CTI classes incorporate the latest presentation technology to meet the ‘hands-on’ needs of today’s technicians. CTI’s MINDS-ON Training TM methods allow every student to participate in a way that makes them feel as if they are at the fender of a vehicle in their service bay. This technology eliminates the group from having to crowd around the instructor to see a live ‘hands-on’ demonstration.

CTI also offers stand alone courses that can be delivered in areas where a CTI region cannot be formed or in regions where additional training or seasonal topics are needed. These courses are typically two-night events.

All CTI courses are led by Certified CTI Instructors. Each local instructor is assigned to a region and will lead that group of technicians and service consultants through the season lineup. The relationship created with the instructor and the other members of a CTI region are one of the greatest benefits of joining CTI. Refer to the instructor biographies in this catalog for information about your instructor.

CTI Online

CARQUEST Technical Institute is pleased to offer online technical training for CARQUEST customers. CTI now offers three distinct online training programs for service facility owners and technicians. To register or learn more about these new programs visit www.CARQUEST.com/CTI.

CTI Technical e-Courses are comprehensive online training programs that allow technicians to learn critical diagnostic and repair fundamentals and the foundation skills that support all automotive service operations. Each course consists of multiple modules, knowledge checks, animations and mentor post-classworksheets that will ensure the student will be able to apply their new found skills in the service bay.

CTI Technician Assessments provide the service facility owner with the information needed to more effectively target the training actually needed by their employees rather than requiring a more wholesale approach to their ongoing education. A total of eleven unique assessments each averaging over 100 questions provide accurate data needed to develop focused learning plans for service technicians and consultants.

CTI ASE Test Prep e-Courses give your staff the ability to better prepare for the unique questions found on ASE certification tests. Each course allows the student to practice taking the test with or without reference material or review information. The review information appears when a question is answered incorrectly providing an instant review of the topic. This program mirrors the new Computer Based Testing (CBT) system recently launched by ASE.

Tech-Net Professional Auto Service

The automotive aftermarket is a highly competitive industry that is constantly changing in the face of new technology. The TECH-NET Professional Auto Service program is designed specifically for the independent repair facility by some of the industry’s top repair facility owners. TECH-NET Professional Auto Service is a business assistance plan that is driven by a Business Development Fund allowing you to tailor the program to your specific needs.

Training is an essential factor in keeping up-to-date with new technological developments. Through the use of the Business Development Fund, your shop can take advantage of the best training that the industry has to offer, not only in technical areas, but business management as well. A comprehensive marketing plan ensures that the TECH-NET name represents quality on a national level, giving your facility the

recognition of a nationwide program while allowing you to maintain your independent status. Membership in TECH-NET Professional Auto Service establishes a mutually beneficial partnership that is designed with the independent automotive service provider in mind.

Why Should I Train My Employees?

• Are you beginning to question the way you diagnose today’s vehicles?• Can you afford to not train your employees?• What are the costs to hire a new employee – if the person you need is even out

there?• What is it worth to have knowledgeable people making solid business and

diagnostic decisions… people willing to learn and apply their new knowledge, people who want to work for you because you see value in them, because you want to give them a chance?

• Do you continue to use the same techniques and diagnostics and expect your productivity to improve?

Why Should I Choose CTI for My Automotive Training Needs?

• Since our first class was developed in 1999, CTI has delivered over 3 million student hours of training to nearly 70,000 technicians.

• CTI’s instructors have over 400+ years experience and are dedicated to delivering challenging, yet entertaining courses that are non-biased and practical in their approach.

• We develop all our courses in house based on the needs of our customers. Each course gives the student practical application based techniques that when used back at the shop will ensure increased productivity and profitability.

• CTI regions are formed locally and consist of a group of 14 or more shops who have the ability to send all their technicians to 6 classes every 12 months for a low monthly fee.

• CTI members consistently increase their proficiency and productivity by applying the techniques learned in CTI classes.

WTT-200 Wheel Alignment Best Practices

Course PurposeWheel alignment can be the least profitable service operation in your facility if your focus is to simply get the steering and suspension aligned and the vehicle out the door as fast as possible. To meet fuel economy and emissions standards, today’s suspension systems are very fragile and lightweight with limited built-in adjustments, resulting in many vehicles being driven on the road today with compromised alignment angles. If your alignment technician provides you with a printout from the alignment machine that states “this vehicle not equipped with factory adjustments”, resulting in a “set the toe and let it go” service operation, then this class is for you. This course is the first of two modules designed to properly inspect, prescribe, and perform a quality alignment that focuses on adjusting all angles to achieve a perfect balance in vehicle stability and tire wear.

Benefits of Attending ► Improve your alignment ticket average ► Maximize your ROI on your alignment equipment ► Reduce come backs due to alignments

What You Will Learn ► Pre-alignment inspection best practices ► Suspension & steering service standards ► OE and aftermarket suspension & steering service solutions ► Don’t accept the lack of OE adjustability ► Balance your angles for perfect tire wear

WTT-100 Tire Pressure Monitor Systems

Course PurposeTire Pressure Monitor Systems are being installed on all light vehicles in the US. By 2008 all vehicles must be equipped with a system that warns the driver of a tire pressure safety issue. The initial versions of this technology were many and varied but fairly simple to service. However the new technologies require a process to be installed in the service facility that will ensure the profitability of the repair. If a customer comes in to your shop for any tire repair or service and you don’t test the sensors before the service, you will be responsible for any faulty sensor. This could cost you hundreds of dollars. Learn to properly service and repair TPMS systems profitably.

Benefits of Attending ► Understand the impact of TPMS ► Incorporated a TPMS business strategy in your shop ► Be aware of how TPMS can impact your profitability ► Technical Courses

What You Will Learn ► The TPMS regulation ► How TPM systems operate ► Differences in each system type ► How to reset each system ► Pre-testing to save you from liability ► Service TPMS equipped vehicles profitably and safely

BMC-705 It’s About Time

Course PurposeAs we begin each day we find ourselves facing the never ending challenge of completing all of the items on our wish list of things we would like to get done. We juggle our personal objectives between work and family, and inevitably get pulled in every possible direction. Most often we fail to do justice to many, if not all, of the tasks we hoped to get accomplished. On a personal level, our initial priorities shift as the day goes on. What might have had low priority in the morning suddenly becomes urgent later in the day. The clock has continued to tick away while we attended to what we thought was a matter of greater importance. This also happens in our workplace. It is especially indicative of the automotive repair industry. Customers pressure staff into promising to complete a repair sooner than expected, or humanly possible. Because of our desire to please, we make a huge mistake in saying “YES.” In an instant, our world is turned upside down! This course will help you sell your time and manage your customers’ time.
