WHAT IS G-STIC?

• Conference series on integrated technological solutions for the

SDGs

• More than a conference: building knowledge bases and global

expert networks

• Engaging with government, business and civil society communities

but independent from any specific interest group

Climate technology

a cross-cutting issue in G-STIC

Workstream partners: CTCN & TEC

Aim: assess and promote the climate smart character of the 6 thematic areas.

Method:

1. Presentation and discussion about climate smart technology solutions in workstreams

2. Cross-cutting contribution from workstreams

CTCN & TEC reflect on the relevance, applicability of the technological solutions presented,

including -where relevant- providing alternative solutions.

Participants from CTCN & TEC synthesised the results and conclusions

and reported back (Jukka) in Concluding Plenary

Climate change conclusions

Chapter 1.3 of Chairman Summary

To transform and reorient technological development under the new realities of climate change, and sustainably increase productivity, enhance resilience (adaptation), reduce or even remove greenhouse gases (mitigation) where possible, G‐STIC 2017 identified these key actions:

• Provide input to national technology roadmaps in support of individual countries’ National Determined Contributions, by identifying and prioritising high‐potential transformative climate technologies for both mitigation and adaptation, and supported by strong and coherent national RD&D commitments.

• Ensure that climate technology innovations have clear links to supporting government policies and incentives, to private sector business interests and expertise, and to local and international financial support.

• Enhance experience sharing and capacity building related to proven and innovative climate technologies that have been utilized successfully in other countries and that feature similar innovation potential, including for deployment and up‐scaling of integrated technological solutions.

• Establish national systems for holistic innovation, to develop and use hard and soft climate smart technologies, and to promote North‐South and South‐South collaboration.

Identify key policy changes needed for a transition towards

sustainabilityG-STIC 2018 will identify key policy changes to bring to market the integrated

technological solutions discussed at G-STIC 2017, and to upscale their use.

New thematic clusters: Health, Geospatial data & Education G-STIC 2018 will introduce new integrated technological solutions that have the potential

to impact the achievement of the SDGs and to support the implementation of the 2030

Agenda

Showcase market-ready solutionsFor the first time, the 2018 edition of G-STIC will mount an eclectic exhibition to

showcase some of the best market-ready technological solutions related to the themes of

the G-STIC conferences.
