SUMMERTIME For a while it seemed  mother nature didn’t know what season to give us. Love this weather! I work outside, so I wear shorts, a tee shirt and sneakers to work! How lucky can one person be?! Our show was a success once again. We will present a check to American Cancer Society & Rebecca Erryn Moon Foundation at our meeting. Speaking about our show, we had 71 entries, over 20 new members join. We can give ourselves a pat on the back and relax for a while. If you hear of any shows in our area please pass them on the our members. Congratulations to Eddie & Judy Wheelock on celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in June!  We need someone to head up our fall open show at Home Depot. Show date will be Sept. 21st.  Have you made your plans for the upcoming National Show this summer? We have two that are very close. One is in Orlando and one in Asheville. See ya at Sunrise Grill soon!

Mike SEZ:

Well, I finally took the plunge! I bought my first BRAND NEW Mustang. It didn’t go exactly as I had always envisioned: I didn’t order my “perfect” Mustang and I wasn’t waiting at the truck when it was delivered, ordering everyone to leave it alone and not remove anything from the car (Actually, I dreamed about going to the factory and waiting for it to be built and watch it come off the assembly line), but I did get a sweet ride.

I have been saying for years that I wanted a 50th Anniversary Mustang, because the my birthday and the Mustang birthday very nearly coincide. I decided that the Mustang I get would be an MCA Edition. So, as the 2014 Mustangs started coming off the assembly line, I began building one on the Ford website. I wanted Grabber Blue (which is a love it or hate it color...and my wife hates it). The agreement we came to was that I could have any color that I wanted, as long as it was Sterling Gray. Who knew that she’d invoke a Henry Fordism?

I could not find a 2014 that matched my criteria, but low and behold, I found a brand new 2012 MCA Edition at a dealer in Columbia, and after several phone calls, well, as fate would have it, I went and came back with a new car. I never thought that I’d get a V6 Mustang, but after driving the car, I quickly realized that this wasn’t my daddy’s V6. While it doesn't have the 5.0 grunt and rumble, but it’s got some giddy up! So, if you see me smiling like a Cheshire Cat, you’ll know why!

Meet Waylon! My 2012 Mustng MCA Edition.

Take me out to the ballgame!

Make plans to attend “Mustang Day” at Olmstead Stadium on June 23. The Augusta Greenjackets have invited the CSRA Mustang Club to show off their cars before the game by parading our cars around warning track of the field and then possibly show them off afterwards. Ticket prices vary, but if we get 20 or more to attend, we can get $1 off tickets and get a Greenjackets visor. Please check emails and future newsletters for more information. I will send out a list at this months meeting to try and get a headcount. I hope that the club will be well represented. This is a good chance to show the CSRA what our club is all about!

Ford News & Notes

We all know the story: man buys car, man modifies car, car turns into full-fledged race car. It's either happened to us or we've really wanted it to happen to us. But life happens, whether it's from a lack of the financial means or our significant other just says absolutely not. It just usually doesn't happen, unless you are Marc Sorger.

You see, Marc is the general manager at The Mustang Shop, which restores old Mustangs. He also works at TMS Performance And Dyno Tuning, which tunes all different kinds of classic vehicles.

Back in 2008 Marc bought a brand new Ford Mustang GT as his everyday car. Like many enthusiasts he quickly started modifying the Mustang and before long it was a supercharged animal with a blown 4.6-liter V-8 engine pushing out 724 horsepower at the wheels. It didn't take long for him to want to take his new baby to track days but he quickly learned after about five laps or so that the engine would start to over heat. It wasn't getting enough air to breathe properly with all that power producing so much heat.

Then things got crazy

So what do you do when you want to go all out? Forget fixing your engine cooling issue, you just dump the engine and drop a 358 cubic inch V-8 NASCAR Cup Car engine under the hood. And you don't just get any NASCAR engine, you acquire the engine out of Mark Martin's Pfizer race car.

But you can't just drop a NASCAR race car engine in a Mustang and bolt up the rest of the powertrain. So Marc installed a TEX Racing T101A four-speed clutchless transmission and driveshaft from Martin's race car. The intake, cam, and carburetor were all changed to make the car more road course friendly.

Whiteline Flatout provided their full suspension package, including the watts link and anti-dive kit while Randy's Ring & Pinion/Yukon Gears provided the racing differential, axles, and gears.

As it currently sits the car has about 817 horsepower at the flywheel when redlining of 8,500 rpm, but that's before final tuning and calibrations. In the end Marc and his team are expecting to have 850 horsepower at the crank.

The end goal is to have a car that is competitive in the NASA American Iron Extreme Class, which from what we know doesn't seem like it'll be an issue. But what's even more interesting is that the car is still street legal, licensed, and insured. He can drive his race car to the grocery store to pick up some lettuce for what must be a very understanding wife.

The Ford Mustang turns 50 years old this year, and this is the logo that will announce the milestone occasion on a special line of merchandise. The graphic is the result of an internal design competition, and Ford will give 50 different companies the license to use it on traditional logo merchandise like shirts and watches, along with some untraditional items like pinball machines.

Ford is going to begin the celebrations at the New York Auto Show and continue them throughout the year, but April 17 is the official birthday of the the pony car that just won't quit. You can expect to start seeing anniversary merchandise in the next couple of weeks.

YUK, YUK!!!!Where Are You From

The cowboy lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh theatre. When the usher came by and noticed

this he whispered to the cowboy, "Sorry, sir, but you're only allowed one seat." The cowboy groaned but

didn't budge. The usher became more impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there, I'm going to have to call

the manager. The cowboy just groaned.

The usher marched briskly back up the aisle. In a moment he returned with the manager. Together the two of

them tried repeatedly to move the cowboy, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop

surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy, what's you're name?" "Sam," the cowboy moaned.

"Where ya from, Sam?" With pain in his voice Sam replied... "the balcony."

Signs Of Getting Old

Three older ladies were discussing the travails of getting older. One said, "Sometimes I catch myself with a jar

of mayonnaise in my hand in front of the refrigerator and can't remember whether I need to put it away or

start making a sandwich."

The second lady chimed in, "Yes, sometimes I find myself on the landing of the stairs and can't remember

whether I was on my way up or on my way down."

The third one responded, "Well, I'm glad I don't have that problem; knock on wood," as she rapped her

knuckles on the table. "Oh!" she exclaimed. "That must be the door -- I'll get it!"

Wizard's Parking

This particular Wizard worked in a modern factory. Everything was satisfactory except that some of his co-

workers took advantage of his good nature, and would steal his parking spot. This continued until he put up

the following effective sign: “This parking space belongs to the Wizard. Violators will be toad”
