Focus on women in developing countries in the farms, in factories
and in retail sectors
Provide better & improved career opportunities to low-income
group women

Shortly after Duke became CEO he created the Presidents Global council for
women leaders. He developed it to be a catalyst for change. It had 4 main
objectives:-
To develop and advance women leaders To build a pipeline of women talent
To promote inclusion
To invest in women externally
GWEEI was a direct outcome of the 4thobjective and it made sense as 80%
of the customers were women.

The idea that Walmart is going to do its
own front-of-package label to identify thoseproducts is particularly annoying. They aredoing this just when the Institute of Medicineand FDA are trying to establish research-based criteria for front-of-package labels. Sohere is one more company trying to preemptFDA regulations. [Marion Nestle]

The company was reported to be taking asimilar approach to chemical
formulations of products by establishing itsown screening process (self-regulation)rather than relying on a federal agency totake care of the regulatory processes.

Walmart has long been known for being anti-union. Jim Hightower reported several years
ago: "'While unions might be appropriate forother companies, they have no place at Wal-Mart
Walmart has also been accused ofillegal political activism, sometimesintimidating employees to vote for thepolitical party of its choice

Forces other retailers to also sell at a loss, ORcancel orders for that promotable product
because they cannot compete with theartificially low price that has been set.
The end result is that the toys will ultimatelysell fewer units because Walmart will be theonly game in town selling it. The toymanufacturers and even the inventors suffer.

Labeling packaging as recyclable is not goodenough if there are no markets or recycling
facilities to handle the packaging waste.
There have also been cases of blatantdisregard for the environment, for examplewhen it paid fines for Clean Water Actviolations and poor safety practices in 2004
