PROJECT OVERVIEW

For this assignment, all students will use Ducati Motorcycles as their client and will operate as if they are thedesigners of very specific concentration areas.

This assignment provides students with their choice of several design options. Choose the direction that mostclosely fits your area of design concentration.

All students will need to use a 2-PT Perspective Grid to control your perspective layout and proportions. Thereare a variety of systems used by designers that have some variation, but all good grids generate a goodproportioning and control system for drawing. Use a system you're most familiar with. See Chapter 5 in ourassigned book Perspective and Sketching for Designers for their method; it is similar to the method Idemonstrate based on David Opheim's method

Option A. Corporate and Executive office using the floor plan provided on Beachboard as a starting point.(Interiors-centered project):

For this assignment, you will need to design one of the following spaces:

A.1. entrance lobby and conference room, or

A.2. CEO's corner office.

Deliverables:

• 1 - 2-PT perspective,

• 2 - interior elevations, drawn,

• Floor plan, drawn.

• Final Presentation on Trace Paper (trimmed professionally to 14x17") with Marker, Prismacolor, and ink pens

Option B. Retail display designs for the brand. 2 sub-options. (BA-centered project):

Next time you go to a store, just about any store, notice there are usually a variety of free-standing floor displays with drawers or hooks for hanging or storing merchandise.

B.1. Freestanding floor displays for apparel and other accessories: "table" and "gondola".

Deliverables:

• Provide 2 - 3/4 Perspective views showing opposite sides, plus front, side, and top orthographic views with dimensions.

• Final Presentation on Marker Paper (14x17") with Markers, Ink pen, and Prismacolor Pencil, etc.

B.2. New bike "Island", the display for the most recent new motorcycle model being feature.

Deliverables:

• 1 - 3/4 view, plus front, side, and top orthographic views with dimensions. Include a specific, recent model Ducati motorcycle (use a trace file) in your drawings.

• Final Presentation on Marker Paper (14x17") with Markers, Ink pen, and Prismacolor Pencil, etc.

Option C. Motorcycle Design. Design Ducati's next generation bike (highly complex). (ID-centered project):

This option allows students with an interest in transportation design to develop their skills.

Design the brand's next generation motorcycle. Choose the market category you like, but it must be based on market-sectors they currently work in, ie. no hogs, choppers, trikes, etc. Electric, however, is very likely being developed currently and may make an appearance in the near future and will be acceptable.

Deliverables:

• 1 - 3/4 view rendering, plus

• Front, side, and top orthographic drawing views with dimensions.

• Final Presentation on Marker Paper (14x17") with Markers, Ink pen, and Prismacolor Pencil, etc.

Option D. Students may propose an alternative to be considered, still working with the Ducati client. Must beclear about your direction and present it for approval by the second class of the assignment. Alternatives may be to design the company's traveling motorcycle show display, or some other component of the brand identity.Deliverables will need to be comparable to any of the choices selected above in terms of complexity and quantity of work product.

A preliminary rough sketch for an exhibition display. Notice the Logo would need to be corrected to comply with the correct logo, italicized and bolder lettering style. Other styling cues, such as rounding of some cornersshould also be developed. Display stands need representation of accessories, bikes need to be added andpeople should be traced from photos or entourage. More background context should also be added.

The merchandise display below is wall-based, but can serve as a fine reference for understanding some of thetypes of merchandise that might also be displayed on either the Table or Gondola.

Gondola type merchandise display. Hooks can be added for hangingclothing. Note the shelves are adjustable in placement and height.

Option B.2. Retail display design; New bike "Island", the display for the most recent new motorcycle modelbeing feature. Notice this computer model is very "generic" and lacks good rendering light logic.

The orthographic view CAD drawings below can be found on The Blueprints's website in a variety of vectorformats: http://www.the-blueprints.com/vectordrawings/brand/ducati/64/

Note, many are not the current models, but should still provide good reference for proportions, stance, etc.

Option D. Student may propose an alternative to be considered. Must be clear about your direction, present it for approval by the second class of the assignment. Alternatives may be to design the company's travelingmotorcycle show display, or some other component of the brand identity. Deliverables will need to be comparable to any of the choices selected above and must still be working with the Ducati brand.
