Exams

Two exams during the semester One cumulative final exam. 1. The first exam will be given and returned before the

drop deadline. 2. The second exam will be given toward the end of

the semester– Warm-up for the final exam.

3. The third exam is a cumulative final exam given during finals week.

Exam dates will be announce at least two weeks in advance.

Exams

Miss an exam without an official excuse, you will receive a zero on the exam.

If you can not make it to an exam, contact the instructor as soon as possible.

The instructor will only considerserious excuses (See makeup policy).

Labs

There will be 11-12 labs during the semester.

Each lab will include

1. a two hour assignment to be completed during lab and

2. a take home portion that must be completed before the start of the next lab.

The first 6 labs will involve – HTML programming– web design– Website development/deployment.

We will use several different software tools including – Dreamweaver and – Fireworks.

The next 5-6 labs will involve – Web-based programming – Emphasis: Designing business tools

and applications.

We will use – Javascript and – either CGI, JSP, or ColdFusion.

Projects

There will be 3 projects First project:

– investigate an emerging technology– prepare professional quality report

and presentation.– Report

Figures, charts, diagrams, captions, references

– Presentation PowerPoint, images, animations

Second project:– Case study of a company whose

product is information.– Amazingly, there are many multi-million

dollar companies that sell nothing but information

– There are some multi-billion dollar ones too

– In the next 5 years, 8 out 10 new jobs will be in information technology

– 1.5 out of 10 will be health care related

Final project:– Implementation of an e-commerce website.– Group project.– The project deadlines will be announced at least two

weeks in advance.

Projects that are not submitted before the deadline will receive a zero.

Grading

Your final numeric average will be based on the following weights:

– 20% Cumulative final exam – 15% Higher exam grade – 10% Lower exam grade – 25% Lab average – 30% Project average

Grading

A 92.0 or higher, and 90.0 or higher on the final exam A- 89.0 or higher, and 90.0 or higher lab average B+ 87.0 or higher, and 90.0 or higher project average B 82.0 or higher B- 79.0 or higher C+ 77.0 or higher C 72.0 or higher

Academic Honesty

Cheating on an exam or project will result in an automatic grade of zero.

In addition, you will receive a letter grade reduction on your final grade for the semester.

For example, if you are caught cheating on just one exam then

– you will receive a zero on the exam in question and – your final average will be reduced by one whole letter

grade.
