    Colloids & Material Chemistry Research Activities

    The current research activities focused on various facets of colloids and functional materials, specifically involve:

    Colloids: The development of synthetic strategies to fabricate colloidal particles with desired shape & size, their stabilization/dispersion and multi-directional assembly/patterning at larger length scale ranging from nm to m to mm; modelling of colloidsusing DEM method.

    Environmental Materials: Exploration of architectural chemistry for surface modification of mesoporous oxides andperovskites with nano metal/oxides for adsorption and decomposition of gaseous pollutants. Tuning of band gap energy of d0 andd10 elements for effective utilization in photocatalysis under solar light for decomposition of water and degradation of pollutants.

    Catalysis: Fabrication of catalytic materials for the decomposition of organic & inorganic contaminants, low temperature CO andVOC oxidation, adsorbents and solid acid catalysts applications.

    Coatings: Development of conducting coatin gs based on alumina, prosthetic coating on metal implants and rare-earth pigmentbased surface coatings.

    Nanomaterials: Exploring various synthetic approaches based on electrophoretic deposition, langmuir blodgett and soft-chemistry (with or without template) to fabricate ordered arrays of perovskite, photocatalyst and semi-conducting hierarchicalnanostructures and their possible applications in catalysis, opto-electronic devices etc.

    Solid Oxide Fuel Cells: Efforts being put to fabricate high performance intermediate temperature SOFC and honeycombSOFC.

    Photoelectrochemical Water Splitting: To enhance the hydrogen(-an energy carrier) production, the fabrication of anefficient photosensitive semiconductor and optimization of other PEC cell parameters is being undertaken.

    Supramolecular Photochemistry: Molecular photonics and chemical logics, molecular recognition exploiting thesupramolecular host-guest interaction.
