Centre for sustainable development (CSD) is a non-profit

organization registered in 2003 under the Karnataka Societies

Registration Act. We are located at Indiranagar , Bangalore

and governed by a board of highly distinguished and eminent

personalities

CSD came into existence in October 2003 with highly distinguished and eminent personalities forming the founder members team. CSD works in close association with various government agencies, scientific institutions and civil society organizations in multi- disciplinary areas of sustainable development. From cleaner production to climate change to green buildings , CSD has pursued an integrated approach to foster a harmonious balance of environment, economy and society.

A Decade of Existence

•Began with a project from Government of Andhra Pradesh on Cleaner Production for a leather tannery in Warangal(2003-2004) •CSD has come a long way in developing its own Environment Report Card for Bangalore city, preparing the Karnataka Climate Change Action Plan, embarking on the first pilot project on Food Safety in the country and setting up a E-Waste agency to address the growing concerns of waste in the IT Capital. •After a decade of successful innovative efforts in the area of sustainability, CSD has an ambitious agenda of developing “smart and sustainable “ cities for the future

• Smart City Plan for BIAPPA/Devenhalli region

- Focus was on using smart ways of sustainable development especially water scarcity

• Bangalore: Sustainability Information and Statistics for easy access to basic information

• Primary Collection of solid waste in BBMP

- To assess the quantum and composition of waste and design a collection system

• Launch of ECOCHOICE portal- one stop for energy solutions. Launched on Sept 27th by Minister for Energy, Karnataka

• Bio-energy systems for Smart Cities- Coimbatore as Case study for University of Finland

• Biodiversity of Bangalore- Coffee table book

• Set up the Green Skill Academy as an unit of CSD

• MoU with CESC Kolkata for 104 training programmes targeted at supervisors and linemen of BESCOM

• MNRE supported Advanced Solar photovoltaic skill programme

• Corporate Sustainability programme on Green Growth model

• World Environment Day celebrations at CSD on 5th & 7th June.

- Human chain with school children and Eco-santhe.

• Solid waste management awards 2013

- Best practices in industry were evaluated and ranked by CSD. TVS, Bosch and Brittania emerged as top winners.

- Presented by BCIC at their Annual Day.

Outreach

• Food safety awareness programmes in Bangalore,Chitradurga, Raichur and Davengere districts by CSD

• Bhutanese delegation from Govt of Bhutan to study CSD activities as part of ‘South-South Learning and Capacity building’.
