TO: Darby Hogan, President of CSCMP FROM: Kevin Kowalski, Kelly Liszewski, Ann Palowitch, Briana VincentDATE: April 22nd, 2014SUBJECT: CSCMP Corporate Sponsorship Packet

Enclosed is a report containing information on the corporate sponsorship packet, as well as the final draft of the corporate sponsorship packet.

opportunity. The corporate sponsorship packet will be an amazing resource to the organization, reaping many benefits such as recruitment and sponsorship.

We understand that CSCMP incurs many expenses in order to be successful. The corporate packet will be a great tool to help alleviate those expenses, while providing benefits for both corporations and the organization. During the next school year, as the packet is implemented for the first time, we hope leaders of CSCMP will keep track of the successfulness of the packet and make note of any changes to be made, whether in its content or in its uses.

We would like to specifically thank Patrick Cines, the graphic designer for the packet. With expertise and dedication, he made the packet visually appealing in order to spark the interests of corporations, as well as contribute to the brand and reputation of CSCMP.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to create this corporate sponsorship packet for your organization. We are glad to be a part of helping the organization grow and build relationships with corporations. If you have any questions regarding the report or the corporate sponsorship packet, please feel free to contact any group member by email.

Executive SummaryThe Penn State Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals, or CSCMP, currently has no formal way of soliciting donations from corporations.  Though CSCMP is in good financial standing, it does does not have enough capital to send its members to national conferences to solve this issue.  Therefore, CSCMP decided it would like be beneficial to create a corporate sponsorship packet.  A corporate packet will help to securehelp to ensure that more funds are secured in order to help accomplish club goals.

The packet’s strategy implements arranges a tier system depending on the donation of the sponsor.  Each tier provides the corporation with different incentives, and the incentives increase depending on the amount each donor provides to CSCMP.with the amount of donors hip.

A graphic designer was contacted to create a visually appealing packet. Incorporating triangular graphics in order to match the triangular CSCMP logo was the main approach when constructing the packet layout.

Each page was constructed purposefully to appeal to corporations who are looking to have a significant impact at Penn State through CSCMP. Each page addresses a different subject:

Front/Back Cover:  Visually appealing and looks extremely professional Page 2:  Addresses the Penn State CSCMP Chapter in order to give the

Introduction         This informative report will provide an account of the need for a corporate packet, and how the resulting packet solves CSCMP’s funding issue.  Defined as a need by CSCMP, the packet will serve to gain financial resources through corporate sponsorship. The creation of this packet has been approved by the leadership of CSCMP, and it will be presented and utilized by the group.

Currently, CSCMP only has a few corporate sponsors, and therefore are not receiving the funding that they need to effectively run the organization. CSCMP is looking to receive around $8,000 a year to cover its financial needs. This is achievable through the utilization of a corporate packet. The organization will benefit with its relationship with a sponsoring company, as will the company itself, with recruiting benefits and an accessible resume booklet.

In this report, ., you will find a page-by-page breakdown explaining the urgent need for each page. A detailed description of the research conducted is included, and connections between the research and the final deliverable are presented. Next, a review behind the purpose of each topic in the packet is provided. Lastly, the conclusion wraps up and includes an overview of our entire report.

General Research MethodsFor the creation of a successful corporate packet, an understanding of CSCMP’s financial situation is necessary.

Balance

Page 8: CSCMPFinalDeliverable (1)

According to the last year of CSCMP’s 2014 expense balance sheet, the most recent balance dates from April 1st, 2014.  At that time CSCMP had a balance of $7685.05. On top of thatIn addition to this balance, open purchase orders with a total value of $919.80 counted against the total. The dates of the purchase orders range from April 18th, 2012 to September 10th, 2013.. Though these purchase orders were open, they were not expected to be filled. This means thatTherefore, the in total CSCMP had $8,604.85 in its account was $8,604.85.

DonationsCSCMP received only three donations this year from corporations, totaling to $5000. Figure 1.1 shows the donation amounts and the total donations.

(Figure 1.1)

ExpensesPrevious conducted research helped us to see how CSCMP uses their funds.

The categories from largest to smallest are:

1. Food(MAYBE instead of numbers we can use little symbols to signify each of these items; might be too small of an image to use though)

2. Clothing3. Transportation (Tie)4. Awards/Gifts (Tie)5. Professional

Photos/Business Cards6. Misc Expenses

As of April, 4th 2014 CSCMP had $3,464.57 of expenses total. CSCMP estimates it will spend approximately $1,000 more putting total expenses at approximately $4,464.57 for the 2013-2014 school year.

(Figure 1.2 provides a breakdown of where the funds for CSCMP go)

CSCMP expects to receive ~$535.43 more than they spent this year.

The Need for Future Funding CSCMP communicated that they wanted to increase their travel expenses and through the development of the corporate sponsorship packet, this could be fulfilled.

Page 9: CSCMPFinalDeliverable (1)

(this can be good to show the actual conference CSCMP attends)CSCMP’s goal is to have various members of the executive board attend the CSCMP global conference each fall. This annual trip, which is an big expensive payment for the organization to sponsor. Figure 1.3 is a cost breakdown, provided by CSCMP. It displays what financial obligations to attend the CSCMP has in order to attend the CSCMP Annual Global Conference in San Antonio this fall. By For example, sending six members to the conference would cost CSCMP $2,676. Had CSCMP attempted to attend the conference this year, they would have lost a significant amount of money, or would have had to make major cuts in other areas. Therefore, through the utilization of the corporate sponsorship packet, CSCMP members can attend the conference in order to build their resumes, network with supply chain professionals, and build on their knowledge in the field.

Packet ResearchCSCMP defined the organizations requests for increased corporate sponsorship as an opportunity to

improve upon through the use of a corporate sponsorship packet. We wanted to understand theirThe organizations specific needs for the packet and defined theirand their main concerns were apparent. being that they wantedThey wanted companies to know who they are, what they do, and why they need money. These being our main topic starting points to integrate into teh packet. These are the main focus points that will be addressed in this report.

Other Corporate PacketsOur research began by referencing other corporate packets from student organizations to Ffinding strategies that were are successful in corporate packets was fulfilled by researching other Penn State student organizations corporate packets. We focused on the There was a large focus on student organizations such as, of the Professional Management Association (PMA) and THON (Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon).

Analyzing PMA’s Corporate Sponsorship PacketBy reaching out to PMAPMA had numerous methods that fulfilled their requirement of developed a professional packet. PMA provided informaiton on their topics covered as well as how to successfully formulate these topics into a packet. we were able to learn about the topics they covered in the packet and how successful they were by using it. PMA is a Smeal College of Business student organization, in

Page 10: CSCMPFinalDeliverable (1)

which we would have similarities in the themes of our corporate packets. Through contacting the President of PMA, we were able to find out how their corporate sponsorship packet was compiledthe information that should be compiled in a corporate packet will be shown in the development of our corporate packet. She has provided us with theThe following beneficial information on what made PMA's

corporate sponsorship packet successful was provided:

Mission statement Organizational goals Executive board structure Meaning of being a member Organizational

Accomplishments.

A prominent feature of the corporate sponsorship packet for PMA was their personal accounts they included. They did this with “What it means to be a member of PMA” and the letter to the president. We decided that this would also be a good strategy for the CSCMP corporate packet as wellImplementing this

concept will have a huge impact on the successfulness of CSCMP’s packet. Eventually, We reached out to members of the CSCMP’s executive board was contacted and asked them two questions.and the following questions were asked:

1. What does CSCMP mean to you?

2. and How does sponsorship benefit CSCMP?

We decided that these two questions would get the personal

touch we wanted. The above questions would allow for the exertion of a personal touch in this packet to be fulfilled .

THON’s Corporate Packet

Penn State Dance Marathon is the largest student run philanthropy in the world. While many of the donations come from student organizations, corporate donations make up a large part of the $113 million THON has raised since 1973.

By examining THON’s packet thoroughly and  we found thatit was discovered they have 10 levels

Page 11: CSCMPFinalDeliverable (1)

of sponsorship. Therfore, , giving us the idea of incorporatingincorporating different levels of sponsorship into the CSCMP packet was included. Each level comes with certain benefits and the more you donate, the better more substantial the benefits will be for the donating party. Instead of having a 10 levels like the THON packet, we decided Aa two tier system is utilized and found was more appropriate for CSCMP’s corporate packet.

Analyzing the current years donations, we have found that donations hadthere were two categories: fall into two categories, small donations around $500 and large donations exceeding $2000. The sample size was very small; and we were only able to obtain therefore, only financial information for the past year so wewas available. consulted theThe former president of CSCMP was then consulted. He confirmed that donations tended to fall into those two categories in the past as well.

After consulting with CSCMP, we found there were three major benefits thatLikewise, CSCMP can provide three benefits to companies that provide sponsorship:

A resume book Logo on website Event Priority

The resume book, which will be created by a CSCMP member at the beginning of next semester, will contain the resumes of CSCMP’s premium members. The second benefit was a logo on

CSCMP’s website. Currently CSCMP will allow any company who allows it to to use the companies logo on CSCMP’s website. After the corporate packet is implemented compiled, only companies that are considered sponsors will be on CSCMP’s website. The final benefit is event priority. During peak recruiting season many companies want to have networking/recruiting events with CSCMP. Members who fall under the premium sponsor category will have priority during these times.

Finding a Graphic Designer Since no one in our group has advanced graphic design skills, we decided to partner with Searching for a a graphic designer was necessary in order to provide a professional layout of our packet. A Penn State student graphic designer was contracted to design the corporate packet.

The student was given the text/content of the packet and the general layout we had in mind, and designed an attractive, organized booklet. In addition to designing the layout of the corporate packet, the designer graciously created a new logo for CSCMP that is more visually appealing than its previous logo.

Corporate Sponsorship Packet Topics Who is CSCMP?

CSCMP aims to provide its members and sponsors with a variety of communication mediums that will ultimately benefit both parties in the long run. The communication mediums act as a mediator between the supply chain studentss and high-end companies. While the student is trying to obtain a job from one of these companies, these corporations are looking to recruit the best of the best. CSCMP’s overall job is to help its members become successful and help the businesses continue to rise successfully as well.

Our goal for the Corporate Packet is to provide business recruiters an ample amount of opportunities to understand our mission, how we are working both with our members and students, and what they will be receiving when they offer sponsorship to our club.

Due to this corporate packet we have had numerous members be recruited to companies throughout the Pennsylvania area. We were able to exhibit the uniqueness of CSCMP through this corporate packet. Being one of only ten round tables in the United States has attracted numerous employers. The round table allows supply chain management students

to discuss current supply chain issues and develop new ideas within the supply chain field.”

We are Penn State. We Are CSCMP

CSCMP is not only a student organization in the Smeal College of Business, but an internationally recognized organization. By providing a broad overview of the international organization, we were able to relate to the student organization of CSCMP at Penn State. This section of the corporate packet serves to provide corporations with information about the international organization, before the topics of sponsorship are mentioned in the packet.

How Corporate Sponsorship Benefits CSCMP

Sponsorship benefitting the members of CSCMP and the club as a whole is one of the most influential pages in our packet. It demonstrates the urgent need for support of the students through monetary donations. Our members, through generous donations, receive the opportunity to have personal business cards, business photos, and resumes placed in a compiled booklet that is and provided given to our sponsors.

Page 13: CSCMPFinalDeliverable (1)

Our generously received donations enable members to travel to firms such as JWF Industries, Mars Inc., and event AmeriCold Logistics. These field trips give our members a firsthand look at what employers are looking for and how they successfully run a business. The knowledge gained through these trips helps mold these young individuals into successful recruits in the business, more specifically, the supply chain management field.

It is crucial to inform companies how they are benefiting CSCMP through their monetary donations. In addition to the field trips to high-end firms, CSCMP is we are able to host a vast array of business development events; including, networking sessions, with, you, our sponsors, office workshops, and professional development presentations. These events enable so that on how our members to can further their knowledge in the supply chain field, in order toeventually molding them into successful employees and be successful in the business world.

Conferences are a great also a huge way for our members to broadcast themselves to successful supply chain employers. Without the funding from sponsors or their knowledge about what the donations go towards, trips to national supply chain and business field conventions would be impossible. Taking trips to national conventions enables our members to have one-on-one opportunities

to successfully network themselves to prospective employers.

How Sponsorship Would Benefit Corporations

When corporations agree to sponsor CSCMP, they receive access to the our resume book, which is a collection of the resumes and profiles of CSCMP’s qualified students. This helps the company with their recruitment process. A second level of sponsorship provides a corporation with event priority during busy recruiting seasons such as September and March. Additionally, sponsors will have their company logo included on CSCMP’s website.

Current Corporate Sponsorship

It is important to illustrate to potential corporate partners what a relationship with CSCMP looks like.  By reaching out to We reached out to Bayer, we were able to showcase our current collaboration with a corporation. This will serve to persuade potential sponsors on the successes CSCMP has had in the past with sponsors. who we have worked with in the past, and requested feedback about their view of corporate sponsorship of CSCMP.  With their words, we can showcase our collaborative success to future corporate sponsors.  We wanted to show our successes with collaboration.

A Message Quotes Ffrom the Members of CSCMP

In addition to providing a point of view from our sponsors, we added quotes were added from former members of CSCMP to the corporate packet. Since the corporate packet format can be fact based with little opinion, the

addition of the quotes would add a to add a personal touch.  The ideas we included from former members of the CSCMP executive board. They showcase how they have personally benefitted from being a member of CSCMP, and how the club has been impacted by the support of current corporate sponsors.
