The Healthstore Foundation’s (HSF) franchise business model has served over 6 million people in Kenya with clinics that address the diseases and conditions that cause 70-80% of illnesses and deaths of children in sub-Saharan Africa.
HSF now supports 57 franchise clinics in Kenya under the brand CFWclinics.
HSF seeks charitable funding through 2017 to be used to:
� Serve more than 40,000 people per month through its present NGO-franchise network
� Fund the launch of the new, fully commercial franchise network in 2017.
Healthstore’s goal is a fully scaled and sustainable CFW network which (1) is funded by impact investors and (2) will support hundreds of locally owned franchisees serving millions of people in low-income communities throughout East Africa over 10 years.

A large percentage of healthcare is not effective in Kenya because providers respond to perverse incentives causing them to deliver substandard care.
Franchising Reverses Perverse Incentives
• Maximizing profits by selling cheaper counterfeit drugs • Delivering substandard care because delivering an effective quality
standard costs more • Providers who deliver substandard care in rich countries suffer severe
consequences (e.g. Jail) – In poor countries, they make more money
Business format franchising – effectively performed – incentivizes healthcare providers to deliver care at the standard necessary to achieve effective treatment. • Franchisees own a valuable business, but only so long as they comply
with quality standards. • They are incentivized to follow the rules because if they break them,
their franchise will be revoked and they will lose their business.

Ghana: 2005-2006
Healthstore advised a Ghanaian-American entrepreneur to launch his own franchise healthcare network in Ghana. From inception, this network was branded, financed, and operated independently from Healthstore and its CFW network in Kenya. This network now has 17 comprehensive medical clinics and has been acquired by Sanford Health, who has plans to grow the network to 300 clinics by 2020 in partnership with the Ghanaian government.
