One Day Only! A “Book Tasting” is scheduled for all MS and US only. This Book tasting is

an opportunity to preview new B&N books in a quiet and relaxed setting. Quiet conversa-tions about the book is encouraged!

We understand students have very little time to enjoy browsing a book store or library due

to assignments and extracurricular activi-ties. We will display seven new books ac-

quired from Barnes and Noble for review by older students.

Students may purchase a copy of the book on the same day while supplies last. Stu-

dents may pay with cash, debit, credit or bill

Dr. Melba Hutsell was our former princi-pal in the days when The Atonement was just a K through Grade 8 school. Upon her retirement, she received this framed page from an old British Bible (1684). Dr. Hutsell remained interested in our school throughout her life, and she passed away August 1, 2013. Enter Janis Witt, a kind lady who found the framed page at an estate sale. She bought the framed page, read the inscrip-tion and decided to return the gift to the school! This week, Ms. Witt came to the school to present the rare gift. Pictured with Head of School Mr. Growdon and Sister Mary Margaret (who was a good friend of Dr. Hutsell’s).

Volunteer Coaches

Needed!

Thanks to parent volunteers Claire Adian, Claudia Phillips, and Mary Bishoy, we have contacted and tested numerous LS and MS students for the up-coming academic competition. We also thank all children who participated in the on-campus competition. Some tried out but didn’t make it because we can only send a certain num-ber of children per grade level per category. We now have 107 participants assigned to 18 dif-ferent PSIA categories. (This does not necessarily mean 107 different students, as some students have entered multiple categories.) The list has been sent to the PSIA region today. The competi-tion is on Saturday, March 23. Our students now have a month to prepare for the competition. Last year, as many of you know, Mrs. Mefrige or-ganized the event and coached our students. Due to funding issues, this has not been possible this year. Therefore, we are asking for faculty and parent volunteers for the categories below. As you will see, some categories have already been assigned. However, if you are interested in that same catego-ry, I am sure the person already assigned would be happy for extra help. I have listed the name of the category, the grades of the students involved, and the number of stu-dents involved. As a VOLUNTEER COACH, you would be asked to read through the materials, meet with the stu-dents and distribute the materials, and then meet with them in tutoring sessions once a week, twice a week, or every other week until March 23. (The coaching can depend on your availability, as well as the specific category.) You will not need to ac-company the children to the competition on March 23. Please let me know as soon as possible, at the latest by Friday, Feb. 22, if you are willing to help. I will then give you the names of the students so you can contact them, arrange meeting times with parents and get them their materials. Thank you for any help you can give. If you know of any parents whom we can contact for specific categories, please let me know that as well.
