On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I sincerely thank everyone who made a bold donation in 2014 to sustain our mission. The tradition of support from alumni and friends continues to bless our high school.

In this issue of the Crusader Connection, I share the remarkable story of support that was initiated by Harry and Edna Volz and carried forward by their daughter Lorraine and her husband, Alex Wagner. In the early 1940s, they fervently believed Racine needed a Lutheran high school, and they began going door to door to rally support for this dream. Their passion and support remained steadfast, and their impact continues today. When Alex and Lorraine Wagner recently were called home by our Lord, they left an endowment that, like her parents’ dream, will never cease. Their generosity will provide financial support for Racine Lutheran High School. What a legacy they have left!

MUSIC TOUR 2015

More than 30 RLHS musicians hit the road in late April. Their performance cities included Joliet, Ill., Collierville, Tenn., New Orleans, La., and Biloxi, Miss. The students had the opportunity to make this beyond-the-classroom-walls trip a treasured part of their high school years.

LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK

Lutheran Schools Week was celebrated with thematic dress-up days, student and staff appreciation days, a faculty-versus-student basketball game, a cupcake-eating contest, and an all-school ice cream float party. Students enjoyed a musical performance by the renowned Christian band Perry and the Poorboys. GRAND GALA

The 17th annual Red Carpet Grand Gala raised more than $85,000 and will benefit the fine arts programs and tuition assistance. Current parents Tracy Naegeli ‘86, Sandy Naegeli ’83, Carri Palmer and Nancy Blaesing (not pictured) organized the event’s games.

DUAL-CREDIT PARTNERSHIP

Dave Burgess and student Sam Theuer (pictured with anchor Jessica Tighe) recently were featured on the Racine & Me television program. The show promoted the Concordia Promise, a new dual-credit program offered at RLHS, in partnership with Concordia University Wisconsin.

THRIFT SHOPS

Our group of steadfast volunteers continues to operate our two Thrift Shops, which are located at 1222 Lathrop Avenue and 1455 Douglas Avenue. Filled with unique and practical items, the stores provide friendly shopping experiences to those looking for gently used items at bargain prices. To date, the Thrift Shops have raised more than $3.5 million for Racine Lutheran High School. ALUMNI NEWS: Jerry Voll ‘63 retired after spending more than 40 years serving as a school superintendent and principal. He and his wife, Debbie, split time between Arizona and Vermont, where he raises Christmas trees, mows lawns, golfs and fishes. He

reports all of his RLHS memories are fond memories.

Terry Hess ’68, who received his degree from UW-Madison, has been a pharmacy manager at Walgreen’s for more than 30 years. He wants students to realize that goals are achievable with hard work and dedication. Terry volunteers for the RLHS

Katie Porter ’94 works as an HR Manager for Walt Disney Imagineering. She relocated to the Los Angeles area in 2010. She attended UW-Madison where she majored in business and psychology and later earned her executive MBA.

Eric Oertel ’10 & Casey Smith ’08 are partners in crime – crime fighting, that is. They are police officers with the Mount Pleasant Police Department. Both received criminal justice degrees; Casey from Southwest Baptist University and Eric from

SPRING CONCERT

Please join us for the Spring Concert on Friday, May 8, at 7 p.m. Enjoy the sounds and songs of grade school Beginner Band and Symphonic Band as well as the RLHS Concert Choir, Concert Band, and Handbells Ensemble. Musicians who are competing at the Wisconsin School Music Association Solo and Ensemble competition in May include: Molly Andersen (Soprano Solo), Joe Herron (Violin Solo), Cole Schmidt (French Horn Solo), and 14 members of the Handbells Ensemble.

GRADUATIONCongratulations to our 2015 soon-to-be graduates! Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 23, at 10 a.m.

RLHS GOLF OUTINGIt’s tee time! The RLHS Golf Outing, in memory of Ron Naegeli, benefits the athletic department. Join us on Monday, August 10, at Meadowbrook Country Club. Golfers will enjoy 18 holes of golf, lunch, dinner, prizes and more. Golfers and sponsors are needed. Get a foursome together, and enjoy a day on the links.

HOMECOMING 2015Welcome back! Join us for Homecoming Week festivities, including the football game on Friday, October 2, at 7 p.m. and Coronation on Saturday, October 3, at 7 p.m.
