Matt will discuss trade winds, route planning and life at sea. 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm The Art of Seamanship Ralph Naranjo previews his new book and takes a look at what it takes to turn cruising dreams into reality. Ralph, an authoritative voice in the marine community and a regular contributor to Cruising World, delves into what it takes to safely cross oceans and how to get your boat ready to go. SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2014 9:00 am - 10:15 am Exploring Chesapeake Bay with Tom Hale Chesapeake Bay editor for Waterway Guide, Tom Hale has cruised the largest estuary in the U.S. extensively for nearly 30 years, from the Sassafras River to Hampton Roads. Tom will share the wonders of the region and will utilize charts, satellite imagery and his personal photos. 10:30 am - 11:45 am South Pacific Adventures: Mexico to Australia, the Two-Year Plan Sarah and Will Curry sailed across the South Pacific Ocean in 2013, and they have an up-to-date and fun perspective on what it takes, what it’s like, and how to make it happen. Noon - 1:30 pm Planning Your Navigational Strategies for Crossing the Gulf Stream Lifelong sailor Frank Bohlen, Professor Emeritus of Oceanography at the University of Connecticut, discusses factors governing Gulf Stream flows from the Straits of Florida to New England as well as optimal routing strategies. Bohlen has participated in dozens of offshore voyages and completed 18 Newport to Bermuda Races. 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm Getting to the Bahamas and Exploring Once You’re There Pam Wall has sailed around the world, but the Bahamas are her favorite cruising grounds.
