Following the devastating fires which started on 7 June, Knysna Tourism launched its #KnysnaRises logo, showing a Knysna Loerie rising

like a phoenix from the “flames”.

The logo was aimed at addressing the perception that Knysna wasdestroyed by the fires, when in fact most tourism activities and attractions

were not affected and are still operational.

Knysna’s scenic beauty is still intact and the Knysna experience is still unique.

POST-RACE MASSAGESEPT Recovery, in conjunction with Deep Heat, will be providing all Maserati BIG5 Challenge athletes a complimentary sports massage service. Highly trained therapists will maximise your recovery and ensure you are race-ready for the next leg of your challenge.

The massage tent will be situated within theMaserati BIG5 Challenge Hospitality Zone area and will work on a first-come-first-serve basis.

In addition, a public massage service will also be available by appointment and can take place in the comfort of your accommodation or within the Pick n Pay Knysna Festival Grounds.Scheduled treatments will be for your ownaccount and can be booked online herehttp://events.mytimeslot.co.za/api/eventtimeslots.php?abs=1&ev=116&ml=1&iframe=1

BIKE PARKSquirt Lube will be offering all Maserati BIG5 Challenge athletes an exclusive, secure bike park to store bikes on event days, should they so choose.

Due to limited space allocation work on a first-come-first-serve basis. Security will oversee the bike park during operating hours of the festival grounds but no bikes are to be left in the bike park outside these times, especially overnight.

Please note that bikes left in this bike park are left their at owners risk.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

The Maserati BIG5 competition will be scoredon the athlete’s cumulative finish time fromeach event.

The Maserati BIG5Lite and BIG5Jnr competitionswill be scored on a points system relating to theathletes finishing position within each event.

Note: Results will be posted after each event on the Results board within the Maserati BIG5 Challenge Hospitality Zone at the Knysna Oyster Festival Grounds.

WETSUITSPlease note that the water is 13 - 17°C this time of year and could be as low as 9°C so wetsuits are compulsory for the Maserati BIG5Jnr 400m swim and are highly recommended for the Lagoon Mile Swim in the Maserati BIG5 and Maserati BIG5Lite.

FINISHERS MEDALSFinishers Medals will only be awarded to those competitors who have successfully completed all 5 events within their selected challenge.

PODIUM PRIZESTo be in contention for any prizes, athletes need to successfully complete all events within their challenge to that point.

PRIZE CATEGORIES The Maserati BIG5 Challenge will for the first time see and introduction of Age Categories to allow for more competition. Podium positionsof the following Age Categories will be called out after each event at their respective prizegiving ceremonies with a final call up to the podium at the Finale Prize-giving onSaturday 15th July.

INCOMPLETE RACESIf a Maserati BIG5 Challenge Athlete misses an event or does not complete one or more of the official events:• They will no longer qualify for the Maserati BIG5 Challenge Competition. • They may participate in the remaining events as an individual.• They will continue to receive the Maserati BIG5 Challenge Athlete benefits.• They may take podium at any event but will not be recognised as podium finisher within the Maserati BIG5 Challenge Competition.

RESULTS AND DISPUTESPlease note that the Partner Events are staged and officiated by each of ourPartner Event organisers and associated federations. The Maserati BIG5Challenge Results are taken from each Partner Event’s results, thereforeany athlete dispute with regards to their results or position need to be lodged directly with the respective event organisers. It is also up to each athlete to understand the processes for objections or queries for each partner event.

AWARDS CEREMONIES There will be an awards ceremony after each individual race where the first three Maserati BIG5 and BIG5Lite athletes will be announced.

In addition, there will be an overall Finale Prize-giving at the Maserati BIG5 Challenge Hospitality Zone on Saturday the 15th July at 12:00 after theForest Marathon.

PRIZE MONEYMaserati BIG5 participants will be competing for a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placed male and female prize purse. Athletes are only eligible for one prize each and have to be present at the Finale to qualify.
