Summary
An exciting and extensive range of premium progressive designs which will suit most frame sizes, shapes and fitting heights
Progressive design on the back surface incorporates patients prescription and maximises fields of view
Available in a very wide range of corridor lengths and indices
Only requires a stock of semi-finished spheres in each index which can be purchased from any reliable quality source
All quoted corridor lengths are from the fit point to 100% of addition power
Includes a range of specialist progressive designs for office use, comfort, children and driving.
Freeform Software
Also includes a range of single vision Aspheric and Atoric designs which provide sharp vision at all viewing angles
All designs offer the patient excellent comfort and fast adaptation
Software can be integrated with most VC (Vision Council) compatible laboratory software environments
File outputs are suitable for a wide range of freeform equipment
Proven design success – not only as evidenced by Crossbows own freeform customers but Crossbows also supplies its parent company, Signet Armorlite Inc, with the software and designs for their extensive range of Kodak and own- branded freeform progressive lenses

Optical Benefits of Freeform
Accurately reproduces the intended progressive design
Prescription alignment is guaranteed
Prescription accuracy is not limited by tooling steps available in lab.
Freeform Software Features EyeView Technology improves lenses for real life viewing
This is possible because ophthalmic lenses have oblique power errors which are present when viewing away from the optical centre of the lens.
EyeView technology uses specially developed software which incorporates the results of raytracing over the entire lens to correct for these errors. Back Vertex Distance and Pantoscopic Tilt are used in these complex calculations.
Can use circular or elliptical crib shapes to reduce lens thickness
Allows variable decentration to further reduce thickness
Controls minimum thickness for rimless frames
Special curve control in reading area resulting in flatter lenses
Allows blocked prism, surface prism or a combination of both
Freeform Software Features As worn prescription compensation
The software adjusts the Sphere cylinder axis
of the prescription to take into account the individual’s pantoscopic tilt face bow (or wrap angle) back vertex distance

Optional edge blending for high powers Central circular aperture unchanged Available on both single vision and progressives Edge thickness benefit on minus lenses Centre thickness benefit on plus lenses Limited by generator cutter radius on plus lenses Variable aperture diameter Two levels of blending: Level 1 - Moderate

Freeform Designs Custom Single Vision
Custom Single Vision Lenses minimise unwanted astigmatism associated with conventional single vision lenses.
The combination of a spherical front surface and a freeform aspherical or atoric design on the back results in a lens with superior optical performance not only on the horizontal and vertical axes but over the entire lens surface.
There are also benefits to be gained both in terms of thickness and cosmetic appearance as flatter base curves can be used without sacrificing optical performance.
Freeform Designs
This analysis shows the unwanted astigmatism of two different single vision lenses, one spherical and one toric over a range of gaze angles.
Once the eye moves away from the central viewing position and looks obliquely through the lens, unwanted astigmatism is present.

When the same analysis is done on Custom Single Vision Lenses, nearly all of the unwanted astigmatism that was in the standard single vision lenses is no longer present. This reduction in aberration is achieved not only on the horizontal and vertical axes but over the entire lens surface. The differences are particularly marked towards the periphery of the lens compared with the conventional single vision lenses.

Custom V has been designed using Crossbows latest “Optics First” design system. This radical approach reverses the normal design process and has allowed Custom V to be designed from the outset with a very smooth mean power profile, thus minimizing swim effects and providing excellent patient comfort and rapid adaptation.

The Custom Office design is a lens designed primarily for use in an office-type environment. It is not a traditional progressive design, but rather is an alternative to a reading lens, providing clear vision for reading and intermediate viewing. The wide range of dynamic powers allows the ideal choice to be made for all reading additions up to 3.00D and also allows the user to benefit from fully corrected reading and intermediate vision and maximised distance vision. The design reduces eye and neck strain associated with long term use of computers.

The Custom Junior progressive is designed specifically to help reduce the onset of myopia in young people between the ages of 8 and 16 years. The design offers a large stable reading area combined with excellent peripheral clarity in the distance zone.

The Custom Relax design is a progressive design for people who are not presbyopic. It avoids the patients’ eyes becoming tired and strained if they spend a large portion of the day focusing at the same distance, e.g. using a computer. It is available in two forms; Custom Relax I has an addition of 0.66D, Custom Relax II has an addition of 1.00D.
