2. Research Question
What is the impact of the robotics instruction in promoting student
learning in science, engineering, and technology (SET) for youth
ages nine to eleven in an afterschool program?
What is the validity and reliability of the assessment instrument
developed for this study?
3. Background
Robotics = Student Achievement
The United States economy is highly dependent on advanced
technology.

Experience
Do the activity
Share
Reactions and observations in a social context
Process
Analyze and reflect upon what happened
Generalize
Discover what was learned and connect to life
Apply
What was learned to a similar or different situation
From the constructivism viewpoint, learning is an active,
contextualized process of constructing knowledge rather than
acquiring it.

9. Instrument Validation
The assessment instrument was the pre and posttest given to the
students participating in the study
Two robotics experts validated the questions used in the
instrument.
The Cronbachs alpha results and the KR20 score both indicated that
the instrument was reliable.
