CRITICAL CARE PROCEDURAL ANATOMY PROGRAMThis portion of the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is for transport crew members who wish to update and practice critical care techniques that will enhance their ability to provide the best possible care to patients who are most in need. The program offers state-of-the-art updates on clinical procedures. The didactic sessions include topics on emergent airway man-agement, surgical airway management, chest tube insertion and management and pericardiocentesis, ventilation assessment and ventilator management, ventilator assist devices, intraosseous vascular access, and tourniquets and control of bleeding. A Procedure Lab will be provided for partici-pants to practice the techniques they have discussed during the lecture session.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of the Critical Care Procedural Anatomy Program participants should know or be able to:
• Demonstrate understanding and hands-on skills practice for critical care procedures to include central line insertion, chest tube insertion, intraosseous access, ventilator management and surgical airway (cricothyroidotomy).
• List the indications, contraindications, success rates and complications from the use of these devices and techniques used in the emergency treatment of the critically ill and/or injured patient.
ACCOMMODATIONS Individuals may make reservations at the Wyndham San Antonio River Walk Hotel by calling 1-866-764-8536. In order to obtain the conference room rate of $155.00 (single or double plus taxes); please refer to our group block Air Medical Physician Attendee. Or, use the following web link: https://aws.passkey.com/go/CCTMC2017
Reservations must be made by March 6, 2017.
The Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference is designed to address topics pertinent to the prehospital and emergency care of the critically ill and injured patient. Physicians, nurses, paramedics, respiratory therapists and allied healthcare professionals will be provided information that offers them a deeper understanding of the essentials of care required for the complex patient requiring critical care air and ground transport. Lectures will be presented that will help participants develop leadership skills.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of this conference participants should know or be able to:
• Use state-of-the-art information to enhance and influence their clinical practice in the critical care air and ground transport environment, increase their skills, and influence their awareness of the unique environment in which they deliver medical care.
• Describe awake intubation, REBOA, FAST-ED, ROSC, what the literature says about Sepsis.
• Discuss treatment of pediatric sudden cardiac arrest, blue babies gone bad, and pediatric DKA is not nice!
• Describe transporting the severe ARDS patient, data quality metrics in an ECMO programs, management of hypoxemia in transport, and circulatory assist devices – what have we learned so far?
• Describe push dose pressors, push dose nitroglycerine, demystifying the surgical airway, and logistics in HEMS…preparing for advanced procedures.
• ACLS in VAD management, clots in the lungs, vascular catastrophes, can we pre-vent errors and improve the transport expe-rience?, and the subtle signs of badness.
• Ketamine and marijuana – is there nothing these two can’t fix? Needle, finger or tube? Death by ventilator, effect of human factors in outcomes, point of care lab testing, and four steps to make ECMO transport “easy.”
• Cognitive off loading in critical care retrieval, the what, why and how of stress exposure training, the power of making a mistake, and why sometimes the best thing to do is nothing.
SCIENTIFIC FORUMThe 16th Annual Scientific Forum is sponsored by AMPA, ASTNA and IAFCCP. Posters will be presented and reviewed on April 10th and an Outstanding Research Award will be given prior to the opening General Session on April 11th. Our goal is to nurture and provide an appropriate forum for research in air and ground medical transport.
CCTMC PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
CRITICAL CARE TRANSPORT MEDICINE CONFERENCE ULTRASOUND WORKSHOPThis 4-hour ultrasound course focuses primarily on the use of point-of-care ultrasound in the critically ill patient. Using a step-by-step approach, learners will be taught a shock protocol that will allow them to quickly diagnose a wide variety of pathologic conditions. The lecture portion discusses essential physics and knobology and the use of ultrasound to evaluate the critically ill patient at the bedside, and is followed by a hands-on practice session.
Educational Objectives:At the completion of the Critical Care Transport Medicine Conference Ultrasound Workshop participants should know or be able to:
• Demonstrate proper machine settings/image acquisition.
• Describe sonographic findings of the hemopericardium, hemoperitoneum, hemothoraces, pneumothoraces, and right heart strain, pericardial tamponade and acute valvular insufficiency.
• Describe sonographic findings of catastrophic intra-abdominal conditions (pneumoperitoneum, pneumatosis, pneumobilia, emphysematous infection).
• Demonstrate an eFAST examination.
• Describe sonographic findings of abdominal aortic aneurysms, as well as proximal lower extremity DVT.
• Demonstrate catastrophic abdominal scanning protocol, and 2-point lower extremity compression examination.

CCTMC Adjourned!
NEW! CCTMC TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONSIn its inaugural year, five teams will compete in two rounds of simulated patient encoun-ters and other challenges to exhibit their criti-cal care knowledge and skills. Round one will commence after Monday’s opening session and continue for the remainder of the after-noon, and round two will commence after Tuesday’s general session and continue until midafternoon. Winners will be announced prior to Wednesday’s closing session.
Teams will consist of two providers and a substitute who can take the place of one of the providers as needed. All team members must be actively practicing critical care transport providers and must be registered attendees of CCTMC. Team members will have plenty of time to enjoy other conference offerings while they are not competing.
E-mail [email protected] if your team feels up to the challenge.
