Clínica 2020 Store - New Store

This New Store in Costa Rica is located within a new building to be constructed by the owner. The space is 180 SQMT and is directly across the street from a large park - Metropolitan Park of San José.

The new building of 43,000 SQMT will house several restaurants, high end brands and a TV station. The store is estimated to be a high-transaction one with a general audi-ence Class A.

The design of the store included the creation of an “outdoor experience” for the customer to enjoy the lovely weather of San José, shaded by the proposed metal canopy and buered from the main road by selected planters.

In the interiors the design intent is to create a cozy and inviting environmental utilizing warm tones of wood and colors. The use of art speaks to Costa Rica’s specic involve-ment with coee growing as a highlight within the larger “coee belt”.

Penta Plaza Store - New Stand Alone

The task at hand was the design of the second store of Starbucks in Panama. Being part of a market opening brings specic challenges as the “American brand” gets established and resonates with its cultural context.

Panama takes pride on being one of the top coee growing regions in Latin America, which makes the insertion of Starbucks particularly inter-esting as it attempts to relate to the farmers-community and tell their story through the meticulous design of the store. Every piece in the store has been carefully selected to speak to the local craftsmanship, heritage, style and culture of Panama. Including the art.

The International Business School is a 32,000 SQFT New Construction building targeting LEED Platinum certication. It is located in Boca Raton, FL and it is one of many buildings we designed in addition to the campus master plan.

Their mission focuses on creating exible and adaptable spaces that foster interaction and active discussion while promoting individual initiative. Other core values included maximizing diversity, connections and creating a positive impact within the community and environment.

We initiated our planning and programming phase with a series of visioning session exercises which were conducted at dierent stages and towards diverse audiences, in order to capture everyone's needs and ideas that would later shape our design proposal. These sessions included sustainability (ecocharette) envelope language and techniques, function, program, interior design and branding.

In addition to the community outreach componnet, the project has a strong focus on connections; transportation networks, access to amenities & recreation and energy conservation.

Park Place Master Plan - concept design competition

Design Goals:The project was set to be an internal design competition between the Gensler o!ces of DC, LA and London. Each master planning team created a di"erent schemefor a uni#ied Park Place ideniIty. In addition to handling theinitial client interaction and site visit, I served as the sustainability leader and DC’s team point person. Part of my rolewas to guide the team through the design stage and help them naviagte through the design goals and strategies.

Design goals we incorporated in the DC-scheme are:- an immediate, recognizable image should to come to mind when people hear “Park Place”Make Great sIte cOnnectIOns- We will recon#gure the site’s connections to create places that are easy to #nd and accessMake MeMOraBle PUBlIc sPaces- We will create alluring and fresh public spaces #lled with activity and social interactionGenerate sUstaInaBle OUtcOMes- We will provide innovative means for making Park Place both economically and physically sustainablesUPPOrt alternatIVe transPOrtatIOn- We will promote walking and biking while accommodating an auto dependent culturePrOVIDe a FleXIBle Plan- our plan will have built in $exibility and strategies to allow lba to capitalize on unforeseen future opportunities

Architecturefor Humanity

Mount Pleasant Community Plaza - concept design

This pro-bono project with Architecture for Humanity-DC Chapter is focused on creating a social gathering space for a disadvantaged Latino community in DC. The proposed space is a relegated corner lot owned partially by 7/11 and the DC government.

After meeting with the community organizers and stakeholders we decided on creating a proposal for a space where the community can hold small scale events, markets, and communal gathering, while represent-ing the communities ethnic background.

The concept of construction was to have wood be the main element for a natural look, and because the people in the community would be building the park, so it needed to meet their construction expertise. There is added greenery for shade and a community garden for seasonal planting. We also added restroom facilities and storage, so the space could allow for heavy tra!c without burdening adjacent stores. To further emphasize the communities Latino roots we proposed using the art concept of French artist JR which displays black and white portraits of the current residents of the neighborhood, and allows for the residents to color the images and interact with them as they tell the story of their community.

Boutique Hotel, NYC

Re-adapting architecture : from junkyard to boutique hotelFirm: Lot-ek

This project intends to re-use the fuselages of unused airplanes and incorporate them into forming the structure of a high-rise bou -tique hotel in the middle of the meat packing district in New York City. The strategy employed was to divide the fuselages in two halves,, each containing a unit or hotel room. These are stack on top of each other and joined by metal cat-walks. In the center of the triangle shaped !oor plan is a courtyard that rises from the ground !oor and it is enclosed at the top by the suites of the hotel.

The elevators and stairs are contained in a vertical glass volume that serves as the main core of the structure, as it interlocks the units -fuselages- and grounds itself in the ground !oor, providing direct access from the public space below.

Washington SquareFirm: GenslerClient: Lerner s Enterprises

A mixed-use structure located at the corner of Connecticut Avenue and L Street in downtown Washington, DC. The desire of the client was to renovate the main elements of its interior and exterior spaces to obtain a more sophisticated & modern look in order to retain and attract new tenants.

The project scope included: re-designing the exterior paving patterns around the build -ing; designing a new canopy for both main entrances; remodeling the storefronts; creat -ing design guide lines for the retail store fronts; renovating the main lobby & reception area and the elevator lobbies at the garage level. As part of our solution we decided to create a contemporary looking canopy to make the main entrances stand out from their neighbors. Pilkington glass is to be installed at the buildings main storefront to give a modern and slick look. The main lobby/reception area will be renovated with high-end !nishes and high-tech features including plasmas TV, digital ticker and a touch-screen directory. In the garage area both elevator lobbies, currently separated, will be con -nected to share the waiting area to be renovated with new !nishes and digital features. Graphics of the city grid of DC are proposed throughout the project being the common theme within the conceptual design.

I participated and collaborated on all design phases, client presentations, preparation of the pricing package and coordination with consultants and contractor.
