What actually is Crisis?• A crisis is a change, which may be sudden or which may
take some time to evolve, that results in an urgent problem that must be addressed immediately.
• Crisis can neither be avoided nor accurately predicted.• A crisis can be defined as an unusual situation arising due
to unexpected factors.

Types of Crisis• Natural disaster• Technological crises• Confrontation• Malevolence• Organizational Misdeeds• Workplace Violence• Rumors• Terrorist attacks/man-made disasters
In order to have the suitable use of crisis management strategies, it is important to identify the types of crisis.

Natural crisis• Are such environmental phenomena such as earthquake,
volcanic eruptions, flood, landslides, hurricanes, tsunamis that threaten life, property, and the environmental itself.

Technological crisis• Are caused by human application of science and
technology.• Example: Software failures, industrial accidents, and
oil spills and many more.

Confrontation crisis• Occurs when discontented individuals and/or groups fight
businesses, government, and various interest groups to win acceptance of their demands and expectations.

Malevolence • An organization faces a crisis of malevolence when
opponents use criminal means or other extreme tactics for the purpose of expressing hostility or anger toward, or seeking gain from, a company, country or economic system.

Workspace violence• Crisis occur when an employee or former employee
commits violence against other employees on organizational grounds.

Rumours• False information about an organization or its products
creates crisis hurting the organization’s reputation.

• Occur when management conceal or misrepresents information about itself and its products in its dealing with consumers and others.

What represents a project crisis?• A crisis can be defined as an unusual situation arising due
to unexpected factors.• Crisis recovery in a project is a challenge that depends on
decisions made in an emergency mode and may impact financial health, company assets, reputation, personnel, etc.

Effects of crisis on project• Hindrances achievement of project mission on time.• Results out to create stress among the project members.• If not solved timely leads to disastrous results.

Crisis Resolution
• Process by which an organization deals with a major event that threatens to harm the organization, its stakeholders, or the general public.
• Aim of crisis management is to be well prepared for crisis, ensure a rapid and adequate response to the crisis, maintaining clear lines of reporting and communication in the event of crisis and agreeing rules for crisis termination.

Conclusions• We cannot stop crisis occurrence.• But can prevent and reduce the effect of
crisis on organizational goal achievement.• We should always be prepared for crisis.• Lessons from past experience.
