NHS radiology services are stretched, with a current and projected shortage of NHS Radiologists, difficulty in transferring images and reports and a lack of home reporting facilities which has meant an increasing spend on outsourced reporting and a high imaging backlog in certain NHS Trusts. With the added incompatibility across local hospital IT systems, this has increased difficulty in preparing for MDT meetings, among other issues. The Solution: CRIS Central CRIS Central is a new and innovative Network Teleradiology solution from HSS (Healthcare Software Solutions) intended to help the NHS increase efficiency and save money, through the enablement of collaboration and work sharing. It supports the new service model put forward by the Faculty of Clinical Radiology and addresses the widely publicised reporting capacity constraints, while reducing NHS spend on out-sourcing. HSS is the supplier of CRIS, the UK’s most widely utilised Radiology Information System, which is present in 120+ NHS Trusts and private healthcare providers across over 700 discreet locations, supporting over 200,000 users and 24.7m imaging events per annum. HSS’ established national network provides the perfect foundation for CRIS Central. It supports home working and is designed to meet the industry’s growing need for cross-site reporting and image sharing on a regional and potentially national scale. The solution’s intelligent automation and collaboration techniques enable existing CRIS users to connect together seamlessly enabling closer working regardless of geographical boundaries, to further improve capacity, and to maximise the availability of specialist services on a national basis. The introduction of CRIS Central also improves the availability of clinical and operational data to provide a broader view of the performance of a regional trust, to support service optimisation and collaboration.

CRIS Central:The new Network Teleradiology Platform

The ChallengeThe radiology market is shifting towards the enablement of collaboration, removing the barriers to introduce new ways of working, and lowering the threshold to the adoption of cross-organisational workows for reporting, image availability and Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDT).

NHS radiology services are stretched, with a current and projected shortage of NHS Radiologists, diculty in transferring images and reports and a lack of home reporting facilities which has meant an increasing spend on outsourced reporting and a high imaging backlog in certain NHS Trusts. With the added incompatibility across local hospital IT systems, this has increased diculty in preparing for MDT meetings, among other issues.

The Solution: CRIS CentralCRIS Central is a new and innovative Network Teleradiology solution from HSS (Healthcare Software Solutions) intended to help the NHS increase eciency and save money, through the enablement of collaboration and work sharing. It supports

the new service model put forward by the Faculty of Clinical Radiology and addresses the widely publicised reporting capacity constraints, while reducing NHS spend on out-sourcing.

CRIS Central also provides:

CRIS Central will support users in managing the increase in requests for image sharing, enabling cross organisational image and document viewing as showcased in our architecture diagram (right).

CRIS Central is fully PACS, RIS and EPR Vendor Neutral. CRIS Central also enables the connection of the small number of outlying radiology departments which do not use CRIS, therefore avoiding the need for local system replacement while connecting all NHS Trusts within an STP.

Reducing costs with CRIS CentralCRIS Central is underpinned by a business case geared to help NHS trusts meet the annual increase in imaging requests of 5-10%. It also mitigates the reduction in diagnostic reporting capacity and national shortage of NHS radiologists while reducing the use of private outsourcing Teleradiology providers through better utilisation of capacity in NHS collaboratives. Our business case demonstrates a:

Why choose HSS and CRIS Central?A proven track record in large scale Radiology IT delivery, HSS’s existing footprint provides a compelling case for the introduction of CRIS Central which will create extra capacity from existing Radiologists while enabling regional NHS “in-sourcing”, reducing out sourcing costs and high implementation costs due to utilisation of existing solution infrastructure.

20% increase in capacity from existing sta due to the convenience of the system, simplicity of use, home based reporting capability and the ability to share resources (regionally and nationally)

Savings of up to 50% achieved through reduction on reliance on out-sourced private teleradiology services, therefore preventing loss of revenue from within the NHS

The ability to oer insourcing capacity to other regions within the NHS (NHS provided teleradiology services)

Capacity management on a regional and national basis, which will result in reduced waiting times and faster throughput

Signicant reduction in the cost of transferring around work manually or with IEP
