3/4W COLLECTING BOTTLE TOPS

3/4W have been collecting bottle tops in preparation for an artwork in class. Last week students had the job of sorting into colours.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE AND CAKE STALL TOMORROW –Tuesday 10th September

A sausage sizzle will be held tomorrow during lunch to raise money for the NRL girls going to Sydney on 19th September. Sausage sandwiches will be $2 and the NRL girls will be making cupcakes as well for 50c and $1.

SHOW AND SHINE THIS SUNDAY 15th SEPTEMBER

We hope to see you at the Show and Shine this Sunday near the Rotunda for a fun family event that supports our school and the Crescent Head Lion’s Club. Lots of fun to be had!!

CHPS GV TERM 3 WEEK 8

SENIOR GIRLS TOUCH FOOTBALL

Our senior girls’ touch football team played against Kempsey South Public School last Tuesday in Round 4 of the PSSA knockout competition. It was a high scoring game with end to end action and lots of tries. Crescent Head hit the lead early with tries to April, Marlie and Jade backed up by a strong defensive line which kept Kempsey South scoreless in the first half. Crescent Head ran away with the game in the second half with the score finishing 13 - 2. Well done girls and good luck next match.

SPRING INTO ART

Many students from CHPS have been busily creating beautiful artworks to go in the Spring Into Art Exhibition at the Macleay Valley Community Art Gallery in Gladstone. The exhibition can be viewed between 10.30am and 4.00pm from Thursday to Sunday this week.

KINDERGARTEN FATHERS’ DAY CARDS

Kindergarten showed their creative skills earlier this term making their Fathers’ Day cards. DA VINCI’S APPRENTICE COMES TO CHPS

Last Friday the children were treated to a performance by the very talented musicians from Musica Viva. The children were entertained as they learnt about 16th Century Italian Instruments and wowed by the wonderful vocals of Rachel Marie Pines.

NRL FUN DAY FOR ALL

With our senior teams performing so well this year in the NRL it was time for the younger students to share in the excitement of the game. Staff from the NRL came to our school to run sessions for all grades from K-6 learning skills like passing, tackling and stepping trough opponents. Thank you to the NRL for supporting our children in this healthy activity.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE TOMORROW - TUESDAY 10TH SEPTEMBER

LIONS CLUB SHOW AND SHINE

Sunday morning the Lions Club in conjunction with our hardworking P&C, the Crescent Head Community Preschool, the Crescent Head Aquatic Centre and numerous other businesses in our community will come together in the area surrounding the rotunda for the first annual Car Show and Shine. The P&C are still welcoming volunteers to help out on the day with our contributions being rides for the children as well as other fun activities. Entries are still open in the Miss Show event being hosted by Velvet Rose’s Pin Up Dressing Room.

Raffle tickets for some fabulous prizes are available from the school office.

BOOK CLUB

Book Club brochures have gone home and should be returned by this Thursday 12th September. Orders can be made online following the LOOP instructions in the brochure.

LIFE EDUCATION COMING NEXT WEEK

The Life Education pop up classroom visit will be here next week from Monday 16th to Wednesday 18th September. If you haven’t returned note and payment please do so as soon as possible.

FRUIT ‘N’ VEG MONTH

Our school has registered for Fruit & Veg Month 2019. The theme for this year is ‘The Adventures of Captain Fruit N Veg!’ It's all about linking eating fruit and vegetables with good times, superheroes, superpowers and adventures! Fruit & Veg Month 2019 runs for the last 4 weeks of Term 3, Monday 2nd to Friday 27th September. As part of Fruit & Veg Month, students will be involved in various classroom and school based activities which encourage them to eat more fruit and vegetables.

SURFING FOR SPORT BEGINS THIS FRIDAY

This Friday Mr Lobb and Miss Raymond will be taking our Stage 3 students to the beach to begin our last surfing for sport program for the year. It has been incredibly impressive how some of these children have taken to this sport with many of them having never surfed before. Stay tuned for some pics and hopefully some gnarly footage at the end of these sessions.

COMMUNITY MEETING

The NSW Rural Fire Service will be holding a community meeting at 6pm on Tuesday 24th September at the Crescent Head Fire Station, Baker Drive, Crescent Head in the hope of recruiting new volunteers to our local service. The Rural Fire Service URGENTLY needs new members. The RFS will be available at the Show and Shine event to answer any questions and provide information on becoming a volunteer.

FIRE PREPARATIONS

With bush fire season kicking off early this year it is important to be prepared. Our school and much of our community is in an area of very high risk. As a result of this our school will close on any days that are deemed to have a “Catastrophic” fire warning level. With last Friday being classed as “Extreme” we were only one level off with our office staff monitoring the local situation throughout the day. Our recommendation is that you download the schools Schoolstream app as this is where we will communicate information as it comes to hand. We have also been advised to make people aware of the “Fires Near Me” app to monitor the situation in and around our community.

SCHOOL SUPPORTS LOCAL CLIMATE EVENT

On Friday 20th September students from Melville High School will be hosting a climate action event with the support of staff from the school. The event will take place in Services Club Park from 12.30pm. Our school Captains will be attending this event on behalf of our school and will be making a short presentation to show our support for the future.

NEW SCHOOL SIGNAGE

Miss Wickham has been very busy over the past few weeks putting up new signage around our school to ensure that children are safe as they move around the school. This is part of our PBL program with our children already referring to the signs as they help each other move safely around our school.

VOUNTARY CONTRIBUTION

As we move in to Semester 2 we wish to thank our families who have been able to pay their $49 2019 voluntary contribution fee. This contribution is used to purchase classroom resources and equipment to enhance learning and activities for all students. It really does make a huge difference. We gratefully accept voluntary contributions at any time throughout the year and appreciate when families are able to contribute.

CHOOKS REQUIRED

We are down to our last chook! Chicken, it would seem are an endangered species at Crescent Head Public School following the disappearance of Obi over the last week. This leaves us with only one lonely chicken in our school coop. If you are in possession of a surplus of chickens or know of anybody who can donate another hen to our school this would be most appreciated.
