Creation through the Flood Level B
Dear Homeschooling Mother,
When I set out to create my own history curriculum for our homeschool, I knew I was embarking on
an adventure that would abound in both difficulties and blessings.
The amount of material out there from which to choose from is absolutely overwhelming. I have
had to repeatedly cross books and projects off our list of things to do because it would be
impossible to do it all.
However, pulling together my own curriculum, distinct and personalized to our family, has
provided generous rewards. There have been many times throughout this journey I have praised
God for revealing His Word to our entire family through the compiling of this curriculum.
I have chosen to offer here only what we will call Level B, or the middle grades, and only the very
first unit of study. Lord willing, we will finish out our year in history with Christ’s resurrection!
The reason I have chosen to offer only this amount at this level is because:
1. It will give you a nice overlap that can very easily be used with younger and older children.
2. I did not want to suggest books and projects we had not tried out ourselves and this is as far as
we have gotten.
3. I simply do not have the time to make all my sheets of chicken scratches into coherent lesson
plans!
So, without further ado, I hope you enjoy this free peek into our homeschool history curriculum!
Many blessings,
Amy

How to Use this Unit
→ The Spines listed on page 3 are to be read every day, a few pages at a time.
→ The lesson plans themselves are to be worked through in order.
→ Anything with an IR next to it means Independent Read and is meant to be read by your
child/children independently. You may choose to wait until they finish each Independent Read before
moving to the next part of the lesson plan or you can choose to continue through the lesson plans
alongside their reading assignments. We typically continue through the lessons plans.
→ You will also notice there are often 2 books listed back to back as Independent Reads. The reason for
this is so that if you have more than one child working through this unit, they do not have to wait on
each other in order to read one book. Assign one child one book and the other child the other book.
They can switch once their books are completed.
→ Anything with a RA next to it means Read Aloud and is something best read to the children by an
adult.
→ All page numbers are based on my copies of the books. Different editions will vary. Sorry in advance
for any inconvenience this creates.
→ You can find a Resource Reference List at the end of this unit with my personal commentary on each
resource used in this unit. I would highly recommend you read this first.
→ All books, movies, and projects listed in the Lesson Plans are ones I feel are integral to the unit;
however, there are other resources our family uses in addition. Those are listed in the Additional
Resources section.
Creation Through the Flood
Spines
Note: Some books are used throughout the entire unit as read-alouds or in-depth Bible study.
These books are meant to be read a little each day, pondered and prayed over. Encourage your
children to read in their Bibles first and foremost, followed by these books:

The Victor Journey Through the Bible
Science -
Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation

note: I have an early edition of this book, so I will not even attempt to give you page numbers. In fact,
the section names may not even be the same anymore, so bear with me.
Read the text and discuss the questions at the end of the chapter. (More from this section will
be included later.)

RA – A Child’s Geography: Explore the Holy Land - Turkey Part I - pages 5-14
You will need a notebook for each child to serve as a “travel log,” and copies of the Turkey maps on the
CD. I did not do the Field Notes on page 12 because my children discussed throughout the entire
chapter and doing this would have been redundant.
Activity – Make a Turkish tile using link on page 14. Laminate with contact paper to use as a
coaster.
IR – Taking Back Astronomy
IR – The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved!
Watch – Created Cosmos DVD from AiG
Visit – A Planetarium
By now your children should have a solid foundation of biblical truth concerning creation to
counteract the mistruths they will encounter in the planetarium. Be diligent to discuss afterward!

IR – Grand Canyon: A Different View
IR – Answers Book

Be aware of mentions of Whirling Dervishes – you may want to skip that section
Tea & dessert – pages 33-34
Prayers – pages 35-36
Activity – Archaeology Dig from Old Testament Days: An Activity Guide – pages 3-5
You will need a clay pot, sandbox or dirt, yarn, sticks, logbook

Your children have been steeped in Truth, but still remain diligent to walk alongside them at the
museum and continue to reinforce what they have learned.
RA – Streams of Civilization Vol. 1 – pages 30-34
Activity - Creation & The Flood section of Ancient Civilizations & the Bible
Let your child help choose one or more activities to reinforce what he/she has learned during this
unit.
Resource Reference List
The Victor Journey Through the Bible
by V. Gilbert Beers
This wonderful resource works well read right alongside Scripture as a supplement that gives your
child insight into Bible times and Bible lands. It is wonderful as a read-aloud or independent study
tool. This book will extend past this unit.
Unlocking the Mysteries of Creation
by Dennis R. Petersen
I cannot say enough good about this book! We use this as a read-aloud and supplement to our science.
It is full of wonderful in-depth information on the science behind Creation and the scientific difficulties
of evolution. A must-read!
Streams of Civilization Vol. 1
by Stanton & Hyma
Textbook format with solidly biblical information.
Six Days & Other Biblical Perspectives
Answers in Genesis
Excellent film, highly recommended by my children!
A Family Guide to the Biblical Holidays
by Robin Sampson
While I cannot fully endorse this book, there is enough good information in it to warrant its purchase.
The Sabbath sections I suggest you read aloud are Purpose of the Sabbath, The Sabbath in Bible Times,
and Jewish Customs of the Sabbath Today. As a family, we have chosen to avoid reading Messianic
significance into Jewish customs; however, it is important to understand Messianic significance in Old
Testament Scripture.
Ancient Civilizations & the Bible
by Diana Waring
I picked up an older copy of this book at a swap. So, while I cannot speak to the newer version of this
book, I love my copy’s engaging information and down-to-earth style. The link above sends you to the
full curriculum from Answers in Genesis (who now publish this curriculum). You can buy each piece
separately.
What in the World?
by Diana Waring
I purchased this CD set new to go along with my older version book. I am very impressed by these CDs!
Diana is passionate about what she teaches. Again, the link above takes you to the entire set from AiG.
A Child’s Geography: Explore the Holy Land
by Voskamp & Peckover
This book is from the people at Knowledge Quest. We have not finished this book, but what I see so far
is very well done. I will caution; however, there is mention of a magic carpet to ride on to look out over
the country and I chose not to include some of the activities because I felt they went beyond simply
understanding a culture. I also found the recorder questions to be redundant since my children are
discussing all along the way.
Taking Back Astronomy
by Dr. Jason Lisle
Full-color, fascinating look into the Heavens and how Christians approach the study of astronomy.
Can be purchased as a set with Created Cosmos HERE
The Great Dinosaur Mystery Solved!
by Ken Ham
Engaging and funny, Dr. Ham gives a concise overview of why and how the great dinosaurs became
extinct.
Created Cosmos
Answers in Genesis
We had seen a secular version of this topic in a local planetarium. However, without the evolutionary
extras and with spectacular special effects, my children exclaimed this was much better! It is so nice to
see Biblically accurate films so professionally done!
Can be purchased as a set with Taking Back Astronomy HERE
Grand Canyon: A Different View
by Tom Veil
This book is beautiful and so refreshing!
Answers Book
Answers in Genesis
This book is dense, so you might want to use it as a read aloud, depending on your child’s age and
comprehension level. However, it is a worthy read as it answers some of those “tough” questions
presented by the early chapters of the Bible.
History of the World Mega-Conference DVD Series
Vision Forum
I hesitated to include this in the Level B section because it is very scholarly, but my Level B child
watched it and understood it and it truly is a wonderful conference filled with fantastic information. I
suggest you sit down and watch it with your children, stopping it as needed to explain any words that
go over their heads. Definitely a worthwhile addition to your family’s library of homeschooling
resources, so do not discount your child’s ability to understand big concepts!
Jonathan Park – #1 The Adventure Begins
Vision Forum
This radio drama has been a favorite in our family for many years! Every year before vacation we
would purchase the next set and listen to it over and over on our trip to the mountains. These CDs are
a cherished part of our library. The adventures Jonathan and his friends and family go on reinforce
Creation Science in an engaging and memorable way. You might even learn something!
Old Testament Days: An Activity Guide
By Nancy Sanders
This book spans the ages. Use with all ages as a family project!
Additional Resources
These are resources our family has added in because we already had them on hand. We enjoy these
resources, but do not feel they have to be purchased in order to get a good grasp of this period in
history.
The Puzzle of Ancient Man
by Donald Chittick
I remember reading this years ago and being floored by the lies I was told in my anthropology college
course. All those out of place artifacts (OOP ARTS) weren’t out of place at all! This book will take you
on a wild ride through ancient history and is definitely a resource worth having for the older grades.
For Level B, use as a read aloud. Buy used!
History of the World B.C.
Vision Forum
This is an audio series our children have listened to during this unit. For some children, this would be
too difficult to follow, but it might be good to have on in the background of your day.
Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed
DVD
Ty and I saw this in the theatre and were quick to purchase the DVD when it came out. Our children
have watched this movie over and over. Yes, the subject is deep and emotionally charged, but the film
is very well done and should be a must-watch for your children at some point.
Evolution vs. Creation
Cross TV - Word Pictures
Word Pictures is a series of very well done apologetics films shown on Christian TV stations world-
wide. We have been fans for years; however, they are pricey. This particular episode features Janet
Folger and does a great job of presenting the facts in an engaging way.
The Mysterious Islands
Vision Forum
I have really come to respect the work of Vision Forum and the quality of their films. This
documentary takes you to the Galapagos Islands where Darwin spent time studying the unique
animals of that island, coming to the theory of evolution as the only explanation for what he saw there.
Vision Forum gives you God’s truth of this island in stunning and vivid cinematography.
End Notes
This isn’t the perfect curriculum. That does not exist. This is simply what our family is doing and it
is perfect for us.
I wanted to offer you a piece of our curriculum as a testimony to the fact that God knows your
family and does not leave you to figure this homeschooling thing out for yourself.
Follow His leading in all you do—homeschool included. That may be a boxed curriculum or an
online curriculum or it may be putting together your own curriculum as we have done.
And remember, there are seasons to homeschooling. What works now may not always work and
that is okay. Let the Lord lead, always keeping God’s Word at the forefront of your efforts. He will
make your path straight.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways
acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.
