Transcript: This tutorial will demonstrate how to create a quiz in Moodle.

Transcript: To create a quiz in your Moodle course, you must first turn the editing features on by clicking the "turn editing on" button in the top right if your course home page.

Transcript: Locate the topic where you want to add the quiz and open the "add an activity" drop-down menu.

Transcript: Select "Quiz" from the list of available options.

Transcript: You will be brought to a page for entering general information about your quiz. Here, give your quiz a name and a brief description.

Transcript: Scrolling down you will see a number of advanced settings.

Transcript: These include features for setting time limits and release dates, the ability to shuffle questions and answer choices, and allowing multiple attempts.

Transcript: You can also define when and how much feedback is received by students and secure the quiz with a password.

Transcript: When you have finished making any necessary changes to the settings, click the "Save changes" button.

Transcript: This will bring you to the Quiz editor. To begin creating questions, click on the "Questions" link near the top of the screen.

Transcript: You can optionally create categories to help organize your questions, or just leave them in one group. To create a question, you must define the question type.

Transcript: Open the drop-down and select the type of question you wish to create. Again, for a detailed explanation of each question type, see Chapter 6 of the "Using Moodle" document.

Transcript: You will be brought to the question editing page.

Transcript: You must give the question a name. This is how it will appear to students who take the quiz.

Transcript: Next, type the text of your question in the large text box.

Transcript: You can choose to give general feedback on the question which will display to everyone regardless of their answer. In the case of a True/False question, you will also be asked to indicate the correct answer.

Transcript: You can then choose to provide feedback for a correct and incorrect answer. How and when this feedback is displayed is determined by what options you checked earlier on the general quiz information page.

Transcript: When you have finished entering your information, click the "save changes" button.

Transcript: You will now see that your question has been added to your bank of questions. To create your quiz using your bank of questions, click on the "Quiz" link near the top of the screen.

Transcript: You will be brought back to the quiz editor page. You will see your bank of questions on the lower right. To add questions to your quiz, click on the left arrow tool to the left of each question you want to add.

Transcript: You can re-order the questions using the arrow tools on the left. When you have finished adding your questions, you can preview the quiz by clicking on the "Preview" tab near the top center of your screen.

Transcript: If you set the quiz to only allow one attempt, you will receive a message telling you that you will not be able to return. In this case, simply click the "OK" button.
