The Pawnee Tribe

Present:*Oklahoma- they were moved to a reservation by the government and still live in Oklahoma today
*This area is known as the Great Plains
Location and Landforms
Geography and Climate
Geography-
*The Pawnee lived on the Great Plains.
*The Pawnee were able to farm on the land.
Climate-
*The Great Plains have hot summers and cold winters.
PlantsPawnee women did the farming and they planted:
*Sunflowers
*Squash
*Beans
*Corn
AnimalsThe Pawnee men hunted:
*buffalo
*antelope
*bison
*elk
*deer
The Pawnee used all parts of the
animals they hunted.
They used a bow and arrows to
kill the animals.
Clothing*The Pawnee wore clothes made out of buffalo and deer skin.
*In the summer the men would wear a breechcloth and moccasins.
*The women would wear a dress made out of buffalo or deer skin.
*In the winter it got much colder, so the men would add a buffalo or deer skin robe and leather pants to their current wardrobe. The women would also add leggings and a buffalo skin robe.
Shelter*Pawnee permanent shelters were called lodges and were shaped like a dome (round).
*Most Pawnee lived in settled villages near rivers.
*Pawnee lodges were made from wooden frames covered with packed earth.
*When the Pawnee tribe went on hunting trips, they used buffalo-hide tipis (or teepees) as temporary shelter, similar to camping tents.
