• No say in government but…• You could move from class to class• Marriage, education, children, and women

were respected• Women could own property, work outside

the home, and even rule as pharaoh

• Males must serve in the military for a time• As a farmer you would work on building

projects during the ‘off season’

Egyptian TheocracyIn Life

• Pharaoh WAS the sun god reborn and ruled by divine right

• Priests advised him on what their god would want him to do

• The people did not question government or vote

• In general citizens had the freedom to pursue the life the wanted

After Death• Pharaoh became the Ram

Headed Sun God after death and travelled through the underworld

• Pharaoh’s subjects went to great pains to preserve his body, prepare his tomb with spells and servants, and protect his final resting place

• They did this to ensure the sun continued to rise
