Mozilla/Firefox Searchbar Plugins for Millennium/INNOPAC WebOPACs

1. Create Web Directory for files that patrons will download onto their machine.

2. Create icon file. 3. Create parameters (.src) file. 4. Create Webpage with Javascript downloads to

allow patrons to install these files.5. Use Searchbar Plugins.6. Manage Searchbar Plugins on the local computer.


Create Web Directory & Icon• Web Directory

– Create Web Directory for files that patrons will download onto their machine.

– Place on separate web server – For the University of Toledo, we created

http://library.utoledo.edu/downloads/plugin/

• Icon– Icon can be no larger than 16x16 pixels. Can be GIF, PNG,

or JPEG. It will probably be easy to be consistent.

Create .src file• This is the file that tells Firefox or Mozilla where to

send the search.• See full documentation at: http://library.utoledo.edu/downloads/plugin/plugin_description.txt


How does it work in Firefox?

Searchbar allows users to key search terms in different databases while viewing any web page

Click on Searchbar icon and it shows you all options. Choose the icon for your Millennium System to search in the catalog. This ignores the current web page displayed.



Enter a search term and hit enter.

For the UTMOST plugin, we are searching the Keyword “X” Index.

Any index can be setup, but only one index per plugin can be used.

Searchbar sends the search to the Millennium/Innopac WebOPAC.

Once you are in the WebOPAC, all navigation is done via the WebOPAC buttons.



You can delete icon and src files here to remove the plugins from a PC.

Find this directory under: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchpluginsThe plugins for Mozilla and Firefox need to be separately installed and managed.Icon files do not need to be consistent on the computer, but for your own sanity, it

should be consistent for the ones that you develop.

How does it work in Mozilla?

Key F9 to open the Sidebar.Search Option is available via a dropdown

by clicking on the down triangle.Choose the name for your

Millennium/INNOPAC catalog.Enter a search term.Same parameters exist with Mozilla as with

the Firefox plugin.

and the full screen WebOPAC display on the right.You can view the 12 entries returned in that search

while looking at the records.

I have not figured out browsing from the sidebar (hopefully soon).
