Dear Parent

Welcome to Oakmeadians RFC, we are very pleased that you have brought your child to the club. Here at Oakmeadians we pride ourselves on being an open & inclusive club with an ethos that truly believes that every child is equal and will be given an opportunity to develop and thrive in a friendly and enjoyable environment. We strongly emphasis the team over the individual, so that the players understand how building strong relationships in teams, can benefit them both on and off the pitch.

For those new to rugby, player development is a mysterious thing, I have taken U6s through to Colts and I wouldn’t have been able spot a player at the age of 6 nor at the age 11 either, who was going to be the most talented, fastest, strongest or most fearless when at the age of 16. Rugby is a late development sport and the players take time to find their individual skills, ability and confidence. Some take longer than others, so the key thing, especially in the mini & midi section, is for the children to enjoy themselves first and from that everything else will follow.

We strongly encourage all the parents in all age groups to stay and watch their children train and play it makes a big difference to the way they progress. In the younger age groups the Coaches or team managers may insist that at least one parent is always present. All of our head coaches are RFU Level 1 or 2 qualified and we have regular access to senior RFU coaches who make sure that the coaches develop, not just the players! In addition all our volunteers, including coaches have been through the Vetting & Barring Process to make sure that your child is in a safe environment. The club has a zero tolerance to any acts of bullying or religious, racial or sexual discrimination. If you have any concerns in this or any other aspects of child welfare, our Safeguarding Officer Chrissie Beatty will be able to answer your questions.

Finally – Enjoy the beautiful setting of Meyrick Park and I hope that your child enjoys his or her time here and will do for many years to come.

Welcome to our Acorns section!

Fixtures:- Your team manager will let you know when you train and what your seasons fixtures are. In the event that you have an away game you will need to meet at their club. When matches are played at home your son or daughter will be provided with a free meal. Refreshments are always available from the clubhouse including hot & cold drinks,confectionery and hot & cold food. Please note the kitchen operates a “no grub before scrub” policy.

Changing (youth only):- We have four changing rooms with hot showers that your child can use if they wish. Please make sure your child is supervised in the clubhouse.

Kit:- Our kit is provided by Raging Bull. You can buy your shorts, socks, training kits and other items via our website. Mouthguards, boot studs, branded drinks bottles and ties are available from themclubhouse.

Tournaments:- Each year the Acorns section goes on a tour to Exeter Chiefs. We also host two tournaments throughout the year: - The Acorns Mini Festival and Burleigh Travel Tournament.

Social:- We hold social events each year including the End Of Season Awards ceremony, but also you can find many child-friendly events held at the clubhouse too, details of which can be found on social media and our website.

Facebook:- We have our own closed facebook group where photo’s, updates and general Acorns news is posted. ‘Oakmeadians RFC Acorns Team’

Membership Options...CHILD REGISTRATION & PARENT SOCIAL MEMBERSHIP

Every parent or guardian must complete an Oakmeadians RFC registration form for their child each year.

If this is the first rugby club you and your child have joined you will also need to complete an RFU registration form.

Your membership is important to us! Your fees go towards the running of the club, clubhouse and pitch rental, utilities, equipment,

tournaments and festivals, and much more.

Benefits of social membership:-Use of playing facilities, Training area and pitches.

From time to time we may call on you for help.... making coffee for coaches on cold wet dark evenings, writing up membership cards, serving teas and food on match days & wiping down tables after food.... every little helps!

How the club is run:- The club has a committee which contains members from the following sub-committees :- Ladies, Touch and Acorns. both the main committee and sub committees meet monthly. are just some of the jobs that are crying out to be done either regularly or on a rota basis.

What about one off practical jobs? The clubhouse that we use and abuse requires a bit of TLC every now and then….

The Heart Of Bournemouth

Oakmeadians Rugby Football Club is situated at Meyrick Park in the heart of Bournemouth and prides itself on

being a family-friendly Rugby club.We have a modern clubhouse with an extensive balcony overlooking two excellent pitches and a large floodlit training area, all in a woodland setting.As well as a refurbished kitchen area in our main clubhouse there are also 4 changing rooms with individual

showers and a physio room.

Our Club comprises of two competitive senior men’s teams, playing in Dorset & Wilts Leagues. A ladies team competing in South West Championship and our Touch

section.

These teams are complemented by a thriving junior section appropriately named the “Acorns” with over 300 children between the ages of 5 & 18 playing regularly each week. In 2012/13 we developed a new section called the Little Bears

for children aged 3 to 5.

Last season we were the south west winners for The Pride of the Nation awards hosted by the Natwest RugbyForce, we received over 1,100 votes from our members and this not only earnt us 1st place but also some fantastic prizes such as a visit from England International star Andy Gomarsall.

Taking members from toddlers to totterers we facilitate 3 to 5 year olds who are too young to join one of our organised age groups but still want to be

part of a rugby club.

Our fun sessions are based on Agility, Balance and Coordination, (A,B,C) within a rugby atmosphere.

Sessions are held on Sundays during the rugby season, It costs £15 per year registration fee

(£5 if the sibling is already registered) & £1 per session
