Cravings Type Report“The only journey is the one within.”

~ Rainer Maria Rilke

Once you know your type you’ll be able to tell whether your food cravings are going to take you further off balance and should be avoided, and what you can do to replace them, or whether you should listen to and follow those cravings: AKA follow your body.

Combining the ancient healing science of Ayurveda, modern neuroscience and cross-cultural food studies, this cravings quiz will show you how to tune into your unique body and needs. Once you know your primary cravings type you can begin eating more of the great food you already love to balance your energy and naturally squash the sabotaging food habits that have kept you stuck and frustrated.

Ayurveda has developed over 5000 years as a natural medicine system that can be tailored to your unique body and lifestyle. Your natural states of physical, emotion and psychological well-being or imbalance are all taken into account to create a roadmap to a vibrant, successful life.

This report has been specifically designed to teach self-knowledge and self-discovery. It helps you learn more about who you are, how to stay strong and how you may develop unbalancing cravings and become sick. This allows you to become even more who you are. Armed with this self-knowledge you can change your life so that you maximize your natural gifts, health, habits and create a remarkable future.

An Overview of the Three Cravings Types:

Feather Weight, Fire Brand & Earth Mamaa

Based on the three ancient doshas or body types of Ayurveda, these Cravings Types have been updated to include the energies and evolution of modern women.

You are not just a blood type or an ethnicity. You are the sum total of thoughts, emotions, actions, childhood nutrition, culture, family history, geographic location, and natural gifts. Your type is greatly determined by the health of your parents. The expression or balance of your type is mostly determined by your current food choices and habits.

Once you know your dominant type you can make choices that support the energy and life you want, which is powerful. Your food and habits can be medicine or poison depending on how it’s used. The beauty of the Cravings Types is that they are based on your basic needs and energies, and no one food, style, or diet is inherently “bad” or “wrong.” Food simply becomes a delicious way to tip the scales of life in your favor.

FeatherweightThe Featherweight exemplifies the energy of air. Changeable, dispersing, unusual, subtle, light, transparent, cool, and active, the Featherweight is often creative, prefers her freedom to social norms or society’s rules, and has a vitality and joy when balanced and sitting in a place of strength.

Based on the ancient Vata dosha, or body type, the Featherweight can find it hard to put her ideas into practice when her flighty nature takes hold. While the current beauty culture prefers the tall, thin embodiment of the Featherweight, her fragility must be strengthened against chills, PMS and elimination irregularities, dryness, feeling scattered and overwhelmed.

FirebrandThe Firebrand isn’t just your average Type A go-getter. Inquisitive, perceptive, bright, confident and enthusiastic, the Firebrand is the hurdle track star to the Featherweight’s yogi. The fiery nature of this craving type is ambitious and drawn towards passionate action.

Based on the Ayurvedic Pitta body type, the Firebrand can jump into the fight to defend a point of view. Rage, heat, and a single-minded dedication to achieving her goals can ignite a firestorm of drama around a Firebrand. Her heat must be tempered by the right amount of cooling foods so that she may continue blazing a trail rather than burning down the house.

Earth MamaDeliberate, compassionate, grounded, faithful, and stable, the Earth Mama’s energy expands to care for the world, when her body is strong and balanced. Steady and calm, her longevity and strength are astounding.

An unbalanced Earth Mama, based on the Ayurvedic dosha Kapha, may get stuck in a boring rut. Cravings for sweets, especially chocolate, fats, and damp foods will dominate. Her natural caring spirit may turn to unkindness, a lack of interest, greed and a gain in weight – both physical and emotionally.

Top Tips For Balancing Your Type

Featherweight:Include clean protein throughout your day including nuts and seeds, organic and grass-fed meats, healthy fats from coconut, grass-fed butter or ghee. Choose green smoothies with added protein and full-fat, unsweetened coconut milk rather than green juices, especially if feeling too light, unfocused, and cold.

Keep a regular routine. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day, even on the weekends. Regular, restorative sleep is absolutely one of your most important health practices. Use organic oils like sesame, coconut or olive to regularly massage your skin and muscles and relax your body. Include gentle exercise daily, and weight lifting to keep you feeling grounded. Keep warm year round. Nurture your senses. Avoid activities, people, places and TV shows that over stimulate your senses.

Firebrand:Give yourself realistic goals without putting too much pressure on yourself. When dealing with yourself and other people, use constructive criticism instead of confrontational language or posture. Include noncompetitive exercise every day, especially challenging outdoor activities. Keep cool and protect yourself from getting overheated.

Earth Mama:Include some variety in your routine. Get plenty of mental stimulation throughout your day. Vigorous exercise on a daily basis helps your mind and body stay agile. Get up early, even on the weekends. Keep warm, but be wary of overheating.

If you identify as dual typed:You may find that you are a strong combination of two types. When this happens, you can use this cravings report to help you understand how your energy is off-balance, and which foods can help balance you.

For instance, if you are both Firebrand and Featherweight dominant, you may exhibit an imbalance of cold and unfocused at times. This means your Featherweight, or vata, attributes are unbalanced and you need more Featherweigth balancing foods like protein and warming spices to help you get the warmth and focus you crave.

Your Type: Featherweight1

MindThe Featherweight is likely to be a creative professional or learn towards artistic hobbies. A flourishing imagination is challenging to commit to productive action, as new ideas are constantly presenting themselves. Flexible, light and energetic at her best, the Featherweight may seem a dancer to the world when strong and balanced.

Your memory may not be very good, especially when physical ailments or imbalances rule your body. Feeling insecure and fearful, anxious, and a lack of confidence are signs the Featherweight is out of balance.

Organs and SystemsEach type is associated with different bodily functions and organs. The Featherweight’s activity in the digestive system rests in the colon. Other areas that are commonly unbalanced or weak in a Featherweight are the pelvic cavity, lower back, thighs, bones, ears, skin, nervous system and ear canal.

Common Symptoms of ImbalanceFeatherweights’ cold and thin nature makes them especially susceptible to a particular set of symptoms that will pop up when her habits and food aren’t supporting her basic nature. These include cold hands and feet; dry skin, sunken and dry eyes, skin tingling or numbness.

If she doesn’t get enough blood nourishing foods, or eats too many cooling foods or sugar, the Featherweight is prone to anemia and dizziness, fainting, a lack of coordination, confusion, poor memory, as well as muscle loss.

When not eating enough high quality fats, she may have dry skin, eczema and cracking joints.

7

Without bone building foods and minerals, she may experience hair loss, brittle or deformed nails, bone pain, arthritis, cavities and receding gums.

Finally, a Featherweight may experience low fertility or a lack of interest in sex if she feels too depleted and disjointed.

Using grounding, strengthening, and warming foods will help the Featherweight recover from and avoid these possible symptoms.

Healing HabitsKeeping a routine is so helpful for grounding the Featherweight’s airy nature and staying focused – one of the hardest things for her to do. Create stabilizing habits to help even out your energy and avoid insomnia and exhaustion.

It is very important that the Featherweight not endure too many colonics, fasts or juice cleanses, which are cooling. Eat at regular times and keep a routine for going to bed and waking up in the morning. The daily habit of making your bed is a keystone habit that brings a sense of reliability and organization.

When traveling, make sure to include more warming foods from the list below. Avoid eating too much dry, frozen, or leftover food.

Suppressing your natural desires and urges can lead to an imbalance of your lofty, airy nature. Daily meditation for 5 to 20 minutes can help you maintain your personal center.

You may be tempted to veer off your routines when you’re feeling good – stick with your habits! They will keep you from over-extending yourself and becoming exhausted.

Notice when you become frantic, try to do too many things at once, and are unable to focus. That is the time to slow down and recommit to your healthy habits. You will still accomplish all your dreams, and you’ll be less drained.

Make Work, Work For YouWhen your Featherweight energy is strong and shining for the world to see, you may be dancing, acting, designing, teaching, writing or creating photography.

If you’re feeling like your cascade of creative ideas are unworkable, or you’ve been told that by the managers in your life, your Featherweight characteristics may be getting out of control. Consider whether you may need to make your work habits and environment work better to simultaneously support your creativity.

Make sure you’re work environment supports you, Featherweight. An overly air conditioned work space, lack of natural light or flickering artificial light, too much ambient noise or drafts can all impact your ability to focus and be productive. Do what you can to stay comfortably warm, hydrated, and that the noise level is calming. Turn off texting and instant messages as interruptive noises are especially unsettling for the Featherweight.

Take frequent breaks from your computer screen and massage your face, hands and forearms with moisturizing lotion or oil. Get up and look outside and get as much natural light as possible. Keep green plants at your desk and gaze at them to give your eyes a rest.

Pleasures, Self-Care and VacationsKeep aware of your Featherweight craving type when planning your free time. Spending times doing things that replenish and ground you will help you feel nourished and full so the sabotaging food cravings dissipate or dissolve completely. Hyperactivity stresses the delicate senses of the Featherweight, so be sure to choose more calming, warming grounding activities.

When planning your next vacation consider your type: are you in need of rejuvenation from too much distraction and stress? Touring and sightseeing may be too exhausting. Instead, choose one warm and sunny destination. Seaside resorts will be more replenishing than an arid, dry mountain or desert retreat. Resist planning too many activities and instead relax and soak up some rays.

Avoid loud places, flashing strobe lights in clubs and intense computer games. Like a bird, you might be naturally drawn to quick action and new experiences, but focus on calming, gentle, creative pleasures such as painting, moderate gardening, pottery, and cooking. Saunas, and hot, moist vacations are appealing as they are warming and moisturizing.

Exercise & PlaytimeChoose your sports and workouts (let’s call them playtime shall we?) based on what will support and balance your cravings type, Featherweight. Vigorous jogging or spinning can sap your spark, so choose a regular, gentle exercise every day. When you’re in a recovery or healing period, a warming, daily walk is plenty until you feel strong again.

Movement, speed and action will increase your natural energies, so if you’ve been feeling stuck or expressing more of your Earth Mama or Firebrand dual-nature lately, you can add more to lift your spirit. Be careful, though: you Firebrands can easily exhaust yourself, so take care not to overdo it.

Cycling, gymnastics, yoga, horseback riding, roller-skating, tennis, skiing and ice-skating will all increase your airy nature. To feel more grounded, choose weightlifting, kickboxing, and hot yoga.

Sailing and windsurfing are more lifting than stand-up paddle boarding, but all are great choices unless the weather is cold and the wind too strong: if you’re feeling dry and cold, being out on the water may not be a good choice at this time.

Color Tips For The Fashionable FeatherweightDifferent colors create different moods and energies. You can boost your mood and energy by choosing your outfit to bring forth your desired state of being.

You may see a lot of blue and other dark colors when you open your closet, but you should probably avoid the black, brown and dark blues if your Featherweight nature needs care. Choose pastel or lighter shades rather than overly vivid hues and patterns, which can be distracting when you’re feeling sensitive.

Yellow and orange will cheer you up if you’ve been feeling depressed. Red is warming and stimulating while pinks are gentler, calming and embracing. Gold is warming, whereas silver is more cooling.

At The End Of The Day & SleepYou’ll start to feel grounded and well cared for when you structure the end of the day and early evening to be supportive and calming, Featherweight. It’s easy to get distracted with commuting, last-minute duties, and caring for others, but use this time for you.

Give yourself a “10-minute time out” from work and family. Take a hot shower, change your clothes, and either stretch or relax on the bed for 10 minutes. Use this break to unplug from the day and get in touch with your body and who you really are.

Eat dinner earlier rather than later to give your body time to digest before bed. Give yourself at least two hours between the end of dinner and bedtime. Unplug from social media, texting, and even television if you’re feeling especially frazzled.

Featherweights need plenty of good quality sleep to recharge and relax the nervous system. Don’t allow any screens in your bedroom, including smart phones and tablets. The light from the screen will upset your best laid sleep plans. Instead read a book or magazine, but nothing too invigorating or scary. Avoid late nights either at home or at work. It’s better to go to bed as early as possible and wake up earlier if you need extra work time.

General Eating TipsWhen you find yourself cold or distracted, or feel any other Featherweight imbalances, focus on spiced, heavy, warming, moist foods with healthy fats. Eat at regular meal times. Avoid raw, cold, and dry foods, cold leafy vegetables, and frozen foods.

Avoid eating melons, especially with other foods. Eat fruit alone as it digests faster and could upset the Featherweight’s digestion.

Your Type: Firebrand2

MindThe Firebrand is likely to have ambitious plans in life. Rooted in an internal heat, the Firebrand’s energy moves fast and upwards. Confident in action and speech, your courage makes for bold action. An alert, focused mind, with a good memory, you use information to further your goals. Often a manager, or leader within an organization, or of a movement, the Firebrands hot nature burns bright and propels forward movement.Organs and Systems

Your quick mind and strong speech may turn critical when your fiery nature is out of balance and growing too hot. When balanced, you are cheerful and happy.

Organs and SystemsEach type is associated with different bodily functions and organs. The Firebrand’s stomach and small intestines are especially important to support and balance. The liver, known as the emotional seat of anger in the body, gallbladder, blood, eyes, and endocrine glands are the other common sites of imbalance and disease.

Common Symptoms of ImbalanceTheir hot nature can engulf a Firebrand in flames. Based on the traditional Ayurvedic dosha, or body type, of Pitta, the Firebrand can balance overheating with cooling foods and activity.

Overexposure to heat, eating too much red meat, salt, spicy or sour foods, and exercising in the heat of midday can inflame the Firebrand. Alcohol and antibiotics are like fuel on a fire and need to be carefully balanced. Too much hard intellectual work, anger, fatigue, hate, and fear of failure are the emotions to watch out for and learn to manage. The repression of these emotions is just as damaging if gone unchecked.

Page 18: Cravings Type Report - Alex Jamieson · An unbalanced Earth Mama, based on the Ayurvedic dosha Kapha, may get stuck in a boring rut. Cravings for sweets, especially chocolate, fats,

16

Signs that you need to balance your food and activities are hot flushes, fever, sweating, rashes, and acne. Inflammatory conditions of the skin and tissues might begin to surface, including red sensitive eyes, repeated tonsillitis, swollen, hot joints and muscles. The Firebrand’s emotions are a good indication when balance is needed. When you notice yourself becoming more critical and short tempered, frustrated, judgmental, or abnormally skeptical it’s time to cool down physically and mentally.

Healing HabitsGive a little thought to your daily calendar and include habits and activities that will fuel your energy while keeping you centered. You tend to be very exact with organization and structures to help you efficiently manage your life.

Watch out for becoming too goal oriented, and allow yourself to enjoy the process and notice the subtle energy of your work.

Try less competitive sports and choose a challenging natural activity like walking or hiking. Sitting and looking at the ocean waves, watching a cool river float by, or looking up at the stars at night is very soothing for the Firebrand.

Modern expectations can make you feel pressured to achieve more than is healthy in a short amount of time – give yourself time and space to get into a productive, cool flow.

Take 10 deep calming breaths with one hand on your belly and your eyes closed before every meal. This will relax your stomach, mind, and allow you to eat slowly and smaller, more appropriate amounts.

Make Your Work Work For YouWhen your Firebrand nature is burning steady, you may be the efficient producer, leader, or manager.

If you’re concentrating too much on your personal objectives rather than those of the company or team, your fire may be burning too hot.

Alternatively, if your colleagues are questioning where your spark has gone, your fire may need tending. When you embody two types, your Featherweight or Earth Mama energies may be putting out your fire, so you may need to balance both types to feel like you again.

Page 19: Cravings Type Report - Alex Jamieson · An unbalanced Earth Mama, based on the Ayurvedic dosha Kapha, may get stuck in a boring rut. Cravings for sweets, especially chocolate, fats,

17

Consider whether you may need to make your work habits and environment work better to simultaneously support your creativity. Make sure to take a cooling break if you work in a hot work place like a kitchen or sunny, outdoor location. If you have a lot of warm afternoon sunlight in your office, pull the shades and dim the lights. Include living plants in your office to cool and freshen the air.

An overly competitive work life can lead to cravings for more intense experiences and foods, leading to overindulging at meals.

Make sure you’re work environment supports you, Firebrand. If you work in a competitive place, take relaxing breaks to walk, breath, and meditate during the day. Stretching throughout the day is calming for your mind and body.

Pleasures, Self-Care and VacationsKeep aware of your Firebrand craving type when planning your free time. Feel the energy of your playtime and self care activities to make the best, centering choices.

When planning your next vacation or after work activity consider your type: do you need a calm escape to balance your hyper-competitive nature and work environment? You may be attracted to mentally and physically challenging activities to avoid boredom and boost your ego, but watch out for ways that you may get overly aggressive.

If you’re burning too hot lately, choose a get-away in a cool climate. Keep active physically and mentally to challenge yourself, without challenging others. Natural pursuits like camping, hiking, canoeing, stand up paddle boarding, and skiing or snowboarding are perfect for the Firebrand.

Give yourself the gift of unstructured, unplanned vacations. Try not to organize yourself too strictly. If things don’t go as you planned, go with the flow!

Exercise & PlaytimeRegular exercise aids the digestion and keeps fiery energies from burning out of control. The ideal amount of exercise will vary with each Firebrand, and you want to gauge how you’re feeling on a day-to-day basis.

Water and winter sports are the perfect cooling activities for a hot Firebrand.

Page 20: Cravings Type Report - Alex Jamieson · An unbalanced Earth Mama, based on the Ayurvedic dosha Kapha, may get stuck in a boring rut. Cravings for sweets, especially chocolate, fats,

18

If you feel that your natural fires are diminished and need tending, your Earth Mama or Featherweight energies may be taking over. If this is the case, you may notice imbalances from your other type coming up. To balance those energies, choose more challenging activities, as well as more Firebrand lifting foods from the list below, until you achieve the balance of energy you’re looking for. Hot yoga, longer walks and hill climbing, pole dancing or rock climbing can build your fire to the appropriate level.

Color Tips For The Fashionable FirebrandDifferent colors create different moods and energies. You can boost your mood and energy by choosing your outfit to bring forth your desired state of being.

You may gravitate to hot red clothes naturally, but pay attention to how you feel and what you’ll be doing today before you get dressed. Reduce the amount of hot red and black in your closet, and save them for time when you need your naturally hot energy to burn bright. Use cool, soft, and pale colors for when your Firebrand imbalances show up.

Red can over stimulate the Firebrand’s hot nature, but may be perfect for an activity that needs high energy like giving an inspiring talk or lecture. Pink is calmer, gentler, more embracing and loving. Even a deep mauve or raspberry is more relaxed than a cherry red.

Orange and yellow are warm and also stimulating, Firebrand. Either balance them with a cooler color or choose a pastel shade.

Blue-greens, purple, and blue are cooling colors that can be worn to help you balance and be even tempered.

At The End of The Day & SleepYou’ll start to feel grounded and well cared for when you take your long-term care into account, Firebrand. Getting consistent, quality sleep is important to keep the happy home fires burning calmly.

Improve your sleep habits by avoiding working late at home. Shut off any computer work by 8pm to allow your brain and body to relax. Avoid watching competitive game shows or reality TV shows in the evenings as they can whip up your energy again, making it tough to sleep.

If you find yourself waking up repeatedly around midnight, this is a sign that your Firebrand energy is flaring up. Use the relaxing activities and habits as well as the food tips listed below to help you balance your center.

Your Type: Earth Mama3

MindThe Earth Mama, based on the ancient Ayurvedic dosha body type, is a combination of the earth and water elements, whereas the Featherweight is a combination of air and ether, and the Firebrand is primarily fire with a little water underneath.

A steady, reliable mind is the great gift of the balanced Earth Mama. Patient, grounded, calm and comfortable, the Earth Mama can be strong like the foundations of the earth, or become muddy, slow, and dull when too cold or moist.

Organs And SystemsEach predominant type is associated with different bodily functions and organs. The main seat of organ activity for Earth Mamas, and the areas most effected by imbalance, are the stomach and lungs.

Associated with these two main areas are the mucous membranes, lymphatic system, joints, mouth and nose. When out of balance, these are the areas an Earth Mama may first feel ill.

Common Symptoms Of ImbalancePain in the stomach very soon after eating is a sign that the Earth Mama needs digestive support.

Be wary of too much cold exposure, especially if the weather is also damp.

Eating too many sweet foods, meat, fats, dairy and fried, fatty foods can increase the Earth Mama’s water and earth elements and turn her to slow mud.

And excessive intake of salt and water can lead to bloating, as is overeating. Be mindful of your stomach – are you satisfied? Eating after you’re physically satisfied will slow your Earth Mama energy down and you’ll find it hard to pick your energy back up again.

24

Earth Mama’s should watch for water retention, phlegm, high cholesterol, decreased muscle tone, thick vaginal discharge, and obesity.

Napping after meals and not exercising enough, lethargy, feeling greedy, bored, and losing interest in most activities are all warning signs for the Earth Mama that her life and food are weighing her body and energy down.

Healing HabitsThe best part about knowing your cravings type is that once you know yourself, you can make the right adjustments to your lifestyle to get naturally unstuck and moving again. The job you have and where you live may be hard to change, but you do have control over your free time and food choices to make easy, positive changes in your energy and health.

Chew thoroughly, until each bite is almost liquid. The breakdown of food begins with chewing and saliva, and the Earth Mama needs more mechanical help so that her stomach doesn’t become overburdened and slows down.

Earth Mama’s often prefer a fixed schedule and don’t like a lot of change. Look at your routine and make changes on a weekly basis to keep yourself from getting stuck in a rut. Try simple changes like varying your route to work a few times a week.

Make work, work for youRepetitive tasks and boredom are like cement that keeps a vibrant Earth Mama from strutting her stuff. If you sit all day at work, choose a different time each day to get up and take a 5-minute walking break.

If you have the option, sit in the sun while working. Stay warm and avoid iced, sweet drinks. Hot unsweetened drinks will keep your energy up and your mind focused.

Take breaks from your computer work and stand up for a few minutes of stretching every two hours. Can you alternate between sitting and standing at work? This will keep your energy flowing, rather than settling.

Pleasures, Self-Care And VacationsKeep in mind your Earth Mama tendencies when planning your free time, self-care and escapes. The energy of your activities can replace cravings for sabotaging foods and give you the kind of drive you desire.

When left to settle, the Earth Mama loves to do just that – settle. Sitting and doing nothing is a fine way to spend an afternoon, but may not create the long-term life you’ve envisioned. Choose activities that are both mentally and physically stimulating. Try new sports, games, and hobbies,

and do your best not to let them settle into rote habit. The key for the Earth Mama is to remember that consistent variety in life will taste as sweet as the chocolate cravings she often falls prey to.

If you’ve been taking the same mountain cabin vacation for years, try a guided city tour or biking trip. If your self-care routine has focused on long stretches of movie watching on the couch with greasy potato chips, opt for a lymphatic massage once a week and meet a girlfriend for a hot cup of ginger tea near a river or lake.

Exercise & PlaytimeRegular exercise is a must for the Earth Mama, although she may resist it. Getting a trainer or accountability partner is a huge help in keeping active. While she may gravitate to weight lifting, Earth Mamas should choose something with movement, speed and action to lift you out of the mud.

Earth Mamas are naturally in tune with the land, and gardening offers a wonderful benefit of physical activity and fresh air, which balances all the craving types.

Get into the habit of stretching both the upper and lower body throughout the day. Learn a few moves you can do at your desk, standing in a bathroom stall, so you can even stretch at work regularly.

Color Tips For The Fashionable Earth MamaDifferent colors create different moods and energies. You can boost your mood and energy by choosing your outfit, and even your work environment, to bring forth your desired state of being.

Gold, the color of the sun, is warming and can heat up a chilled Earth Mama. Avoid too much white, which may be too soothing if your energy is already slow and low.

Red, orange, yellow and yellowish-green are uplifting. Bright, bold colors will excite the Earth Mama’s eyes and energy, and can be used in her wardrobe as well as her home and work space.

26

At The End Of The Day & SleepEvening is Earth Mama’s time. Sexual activity increases the expansive Featherweight energy in every craving type, and increases vitality, energy, and overall health. Once turned on, Earth Mama’s have big sexual appetites, and can have greater stamina than Featherweights and Firebrands.

Earth Mamas are champion sleepers. Avoid sleeping in or napping to help balance and enliven your slower, stuck energy. If you’re going to bed early and sleeping late, this is a sign that your Earth Mama energy is getting bogged down.

General Eating TipsEarth Mamas tend to overeat, which impedes digestion. Eat smaller portions and more frequently if you find you’re still hungry soon after a meal of real food.

Eat slowly and chew your food until almost liquid.

Choose plenty of vegetables, salads, light, dry foods and spices. Avoid sweets, and sweet fruits, overly salted, and fried foods, dairy products and frozen foods.

Foods To AvoidFoods that can aggravate Earth Mamas should be avoided – you may crave them, but these foods will slow you down, and reduce your vibrancy.
