Remove1Apply the parking brake and place the shift leverin neutral.

Remove all cables from ground (negative) batteryterminals to prevent personal injury from electrical shock.

Loosen the hose clamps at the top of the separator. Slidethe coupling hose back.

Remove the clamp securing the lower portion of the draintube to the lower bracket.

Remove the bolts securing the crankcase ventilationseparator to the engine block and remove the separator.

Note: Separator may need to be tapped with a rubberhammer to free the separator from the gasket.

Installation1Clean the separator sealing surface and install a newgasket in the groove on the separator.

Position the separator on the engine block and installthe mounting bolts. Tighten the mounting bolts to 24± 4 Nm (18 ± 3 ft-lb).

Connect the drain tube to the separator fitting. Positionand tighten the hose clamp.

Connect the upper portion of the ventilation tube then,position and tighten the hose clamp.

Install all previously remove cables to the ground(negative) battery terminals.

Crankcase Ventilation, Check

Note: As illustrations used in the service literature areused for several different engine variants, some detailsmay differ from the variant in question. The essentialinformation in the illustrations is, however, always correct.

Inlet Pipe Check1

Check the inlet pipe for oil film, oil residue and particles.

2Remove any deposits from the pipe.

Separator Check1

Undo the separator and try to rotate the turbine by hand.It should rotate easily.

2If the turbine is faulty, replace the separator.

Oil Nozzle Check1

T2022599

Undo the separator and check the oil nozzle whichoperates the separator. If the oil nozzle becomesclogged, the oil pressure is reduced and the turbine doesnot rotate as it should.

2Check for deposits and dirt. Clean if necessary. Ifcleaning doesn’t help, replace the whole oil separator.
