MR. ANTHONY J.TERREGINO
We the class of '53
Do dedicate this Golden C
To him who's been both sponsor and friend,
Who has captained the ship from beginning to end.
He's been at the wheel and we've come a long way,
Through dances, the Prom and the Senior play.
He's mapped the course and set the pace;
He's kept the crew in its rightful place.
This we've enjoyed, we think he should know;
So muchas gracias siempre, adios amigo.
"Cheer-up, Mr. Teiregino, the worst is yet to come."

THE PROMIt was quite a while ago, but we
still remember! The first excitementwhen we learned that our Promwas going to be different. Themounting activity as committeeswere formed, meetings held, deco-rations made, tuxedos rented, andbids purchased. Finally the bestnews of all — the famous WoodyHerman and his orchestra weregoing to supply the music. Then, onthat May evening, 400 of us dancedbeneath glittering chandeliers, ap-plauded the King and Queen, paraded in the Grand March, showedoff our souvenirs, and enjoyed adelicious cold supper. We recall allthese things—probably much more.
Our class can never thank enoughthose parents, teachers, organiza-tions, and students who truly madethe 1952 Prom a night we cannotforget—"A Night to Remember."

"What a Life!" for the cast and crewof this Clifford Goldsmith comedy duringits preparation! Though rehearsals weretedious, laughs were frequent. Rememberthe entrance of a train of Miss Mathews'"little children" who stopped a rehearsal bysitting on the lap of "Mother Cederholm?"Or the intermission taken for tears on thefateful afternoon when our beloved Dodgerslost the world series?
These minor catastrophes didn't hinderthe senior play's winning its television de-but, however. We all felt pretty professionaluntil Marilyn Bolcer caused a panic bynearly bursting out laughing during thefilming of a dramatic scene.
With Miss Mathews' guiding hand behindthis production, "What a Life" cannot failto be remembered for years to come.
"You take that back!"Michael Ferro, Robert Balas

Cranford High School produced its first StateChampionship Football Team in the school'shistory. Sparked by spirit, fight, and the de-termination to win, the 1952 squad, predictedas "the doormat of Union County", completedthe season with a reputable record of 7 winsand 2 losses. This record equaled that of 1945and was the best season Cranford has enjoyedin the last 17 years.
Downing a strong Linden team in our opener,13-6, Cranford continued its winning way bydefeating Millburn 13-7, and nipping a for-merly undefeated North Plainfield squad, 13-12.
After holding Rahway, later crowned StateChampions in their group, 7-7 at halftime, Cran-ford finally bowed 7-27. To make up for this,we defated both Roselle Park and Roselle inthe same season to accomplish this feat forthe first time since 1935.
We entered our traditional Turkey Day game, with Group IV Thomas Jefferson School, aslight favorite for the first time in the series.

"State Tournament
76
Cranford High School's basketball cagersbrought home the first State Group II SectionalChampionship since 1944 although it only com-piled a seasonal record of 8 wins and 10 losses.
In one of the high spots of the season, Cran-ford defeated Scotch Plains, winner of elevenstraight, but lost in an overtime period to apowerful Summit team. The squad, after drop-ping a last-second decision earlier in the sea-son to Roselle Park, came back to defeat thePanthers for the first time in the last threeyears. Of its ten defeats, Cranford lost eightof these by six points or less and two of thesewere overtime decisions.
In the opening round of the County Tourna-ment, Cranford bowed to Pingry, an undefeatedprep school powerhouse. However, the StateTournament provided the incentive which drovethe team to sparkling victories over Roselle,Roselle Park, and Scotch Plains, before bowingto Weehawken, the eventual champs.
The team was hampered by ineligibility, sickness, and injury throughout the season. With only three of an expected five lettermenreturning the team was green early in theseason but the fine coaching of Bill Martinmolded it into one of the best in the state.
Bob Albertson, our 6'4" center, led the teamthroughout the year in both scoring and de-fensive play. "Big Red" scored over the 30-point mark in the Clifford Scott, Rahway, Ro-selle Park, and Weehawken games, compileda seasonal average of 21.7 points per gameand a seasonal total of 498 points. All of theseare school records and the last one set aUnion County mark.
Although the Championship will never beforgotten, neither will the team's trip to Ver-mont. The team, at this time, wishes to expressits sincerest appreciation to Coach Bill Martinwho made this experience possible.

Coach Buonaguro produced his sixth straight "better-than-.500" season for Cranford High School with an impressiverecord oi 11 wins and 7 losses. This record was climaxed byDon Kern twirling a one-hit victory over a powerful RosellePark club, our county rivals, and a no-hit victory over Irving-ton Tech.
Cranford placed four batters in the ".300" club: AndyCrisanti, Glenn Owens, Bob Dommergue, and Bob Witte. Co-captain Owens accomplished the feat for the third consecutiveyecrr.
Co-captain Kern ably led the pitching department, settingUnion County pitching records for: most strikeouts in one sea-son (189), most complete games in one season (15), most winsin high school career (23), and most strikeouts in high schoolcareer (400). Don is undoubtedly one of the county's greatall-time pitchers.
With all but two of the starting nine lost via graduation,Coach Buonaguro is, nevertheless, looking forward to his 1953season with great anticipation. Many promising players sawaction and earned their letters in 1952 and they will lead theteam to another "better-than-,500" season.

Due to the graduation of most of the varsity soccer team, the1952 squad encountered a rough season. Although the season'srecord stands at 1 win, 9 losses, and 2 ties, Cranford lost manyclose decisions. Cranford showed its potential in the closing gameof the season as it bowed to the State Champs, Thomas Jefferson, only 1 to 0.

Because Cranford lost all but three lettermen from last year'schampionship team and also handicapped due to the lack of ice,Coach Daniels was unable to field a winning combination. Theydid, however, make an excellent showing against Lawrenceville, losing 6-1 to a team rated tops in the state. As their last twoencounters against Morristown were decided in the last period, theydo not give a true picture of the team's improvement.

The tennis team scored a sparkling 3-2 upset over a powerfulPlainfield squad in the opening game of the season only to fallunder the strength of its other two opponents.
In spite of the fact that the team was composed largely ofsophomores and juniors, the record does not do justice to the abilityof our players. This is shown in the hard battle lost to ThomasJefferson, 2-3.

In the County Golf Tournament the team as a whole placedfourth out of five. Fred Duffy, who individually took fourth placein the tournament, led the team in scoring for the year.
Although our golf team's record seems unimpressive, it mustbe stated that our three losses were to larger schools which haveannually fielded good golf teams.

The Girls' Athletic Association, un-der the sponsorship of Miss FlorenceAlp and Mrs. Eva Hazel, offers to everygirl the opportunity to participate in allsports not only during and after schoolhours, but also in several intramuralgames. Archery introduces the year of ath-letics to the girls. When the briskautumn weather replaces summer'scomfortable warmth the classes playhockey. This lively game keeps thegoose-pimples away!
Basketball is the favorite indoor sportalthough volleyball certainly doesn'thibernate. Occasionally, the girls at-tempt Modern Dancing or tumbling, butthe results are usually black and blue!
Spring and baseball come hand inhand, although for the past two yearstennis has slipped in quite successfullyto make it a trio!
The efforts and achievements of theSophomore, Junior, and Senior mem-bers of the association are displayedin the annual "Blue and Gold Exhibi-tion". It might not be inappropriate toadd that these annual exhibitions neverfail to attract even larger crowds thanthe boys' sports ever drew.
