A Message From The Principal Class

Dear Parents/Guardians, As we enter Week 4, the wintry weather is still with us, however Spring is just around the corner. Bring it on!

Are you in school uniform? CSPS is a proud school in so many ways and this is definitely depicted in the manner in

which students stand proudly representing their school values. This is also demonstrated by the way we wear our uniform. It is important that we stand together in wearing the approved school uniform items, which relates also to appropriate jewellery. Staff have been asked to bring to the attention of the Principal class any student who is out of uniform. The school uniform policy is currently being discussed at the Policy Sub Committee; your feedback is most welcome.

Congratulations to the following children who have demonstrated our four values; Positivity, Persistence, Pride and Passion.

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander Children's Day

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander Children's Day is the largest

national day to celebrate our

children. The day is celebrated

across Australia each year on 4

August. The day provides an

opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres

Strait Islander families to celebrate

the strengths and culture of their

children and for all Australians to

show their support for Aboriginal

children.

Tyrone from 1a proudly represented

his culture through sharing with the

students examples of Aboriginal life,

including traditional painting with

rocks.

Junior School Council (JSC) Presentation at School Council Two members of the Junior School Council team Maddy Shaw and Connor Brunsdon attended the CSPS School Council Meeting on Wednesday, 2 August to present the semester 1 fundraising activities for 2017. The JSC members are elected by their peers to represent their classes. These students work hard to ensure that the free dress day events are a success and that the students are aware of what the funds are

being raised for. Both students spoke very well and presented a PowerPoint with the results of these events. This presentation will also be displayed in the foyer of the school via the new television purchased through fundraising funds. CSPS is a proud supporter of many charities and are contributing to the betterment of the world we live in.

Last Friday on Friday, 4 August, the Senior

School had their Empowerment Project Showcase. It was

fantastic to see so many families visiting and checking out all the

amazing activities happening around the school and listening to students discuss their experiences. Students have been involved in:

cooking, cross fit, cartooning, knitting, painting, meditating, making dream catches, building lego, filming and experimenting with science. Students

have been extremely engaged in their projects and have been learning a variety of new skills. Students were presented with ribbons displaying our school values of Positivity, Persistence, Pride and Passion, for demonstrating these

attributes and skills throughout the Project. A big thank you to Delish Elementary and Ulearn music; members of our school community, for getting involved and

supporting our school during this time. We look forward to running the Empowerment Project again in Term 4 and once again encourage members of our school community to get involved.

Congratulations to Grace Minty in 4C who won the Master Chef competition for the Senior Empowerment on Friday, 4 August. What a wonderful moment for both Grace and future chefs everywhere.

¡Hola amigos! The Hub” is our new learning space and it is doing wonders for our Spanish program. All year levels have been challenging themselves with the Spanish numbers using Apps, web

sites and games and some students will get to a 1000 by the end of Term 3!. For the next few weeks, Foundation students are learning about families; students from Year 1 to 4 are learning how to talk about their favourite things in Spanish and how to describe houses, while learning about how other people live around the world. Year 5 and 6 students are investigating weather around the world, focusing on Spanish speaking countries and how to describe the weather in Spanish, among many more things. Please, encourage your child to spot Spanish words, images and food in the community and share what you find with us! (please send to [email protected]). Hasta la vista!

Pictured to the right: Year 5 students brainstorming questions and ideas about the weather and one of our puzzles describing favourite things.

Free dress day on Friday, 28 July which raised $316.00 for Diabetes

Australia. We thank all CSPS families for their support.

A big thank you to Caitlyn from 4C and some of our JSC members for

speaking to classes about Type 1 Diabetes and raising awareness.

The Vikings Tee Ball team is a mixed team of years four, five and six who formed to play Tee Ball in our knockout competition against other schools in our area. We came together and decided that we would like to try our best and see how far we could go. So we trained three times a week. We gave up lunch times with our friends, we trained in the rain and mud, we pushed ourselves hard; beyond our expectations. We built skills and strategy we never knew we had in us. We made it through our first round and went on to the second round of divisional champs. We came up against teams that were made up

of all grade sixers (really big grade sixers!!!). They hit hard but we fielded with discipline and stayed cool. We hit hard too; even though most of our players were half the size of their players....really!!!! We had practised batting, fielding and our game strategy. We stuck with our game plan. We won… by only one run. Now we are in the divisional competition. This is such a great achievement for a team from our small community school. Other schools have a much larger talent pool to draw from. Our Vikings built their talent from the pool they had. We learned as we went along and we got better day by day. Come August 16, our Vikings will stand on the mound at Mornington Pirates Baseball Club and we will play against the best in our division. They will be older and bigger than us. The Vikings deserve their place there. Win or lose, your children (our Cranbourne South family) have given it a go. It doesn't matter how we perform on the 16th; we have already exceeded our own expectations of our performance. We are undeniably proudly Cranbourne South ‘kids’. Thanks so much to our school who has believed in us and supported our training and to our community who have followed us, cheered and comforted us. Tee Ball is not everything. But sport teaches us valuable life lessons. Our Vikings have grit about them. Come cheer the Vikings on at Wilson's Road Baseball Reserve in Mornington on the August 16. You will be proud that you did.

Week 2, Term 3, Senior school students all participated in the house spelling competition. The grand final was hard fought; it featured words such as vacuum, conscientious and camouflage. Congratulations to all of the children who made the finals. They demonstrated our values of passion, pride, persistence and positivity as

they spelled out every word!. The winners of each year level were:

Year 4: Breana Robertson and Tamika Carey

Year 5: Zara Ogier and Christian Siraveni

Year 6: Max Brunsdon and Joshua Muus Zara, Christian, Max and Joshua will be representing our school at the Vicspell August zone finals. Go Cranbourne South!
