fuel information in the safety rules beforeyou begin. If you do not understand thesafety rules, do not attempt to fuel yourunit. Call 1-800-235-5878.

FUELING ENGINEThis engine is certified to operate onunleaded gasoline. Before operation, gasoline must be mixed with a goodquality 2-cycle air-cooled engine oil. Werecommend CRAFTSMAN brand oil. Mixgasoline and oil at a ratio of 40:1 (A 40:1ratio is obtained by mixing 3.2 ounces ofoil with 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline).DO NOT USE automotive oil or boat oil.

These oils will cause engine damage. When mixing fuel, follow instructionsprinted on container.Once oil is added to gasoline, shakecontainer momentarily to assure that thefuel is thoroughly mixed. Always readand follow the safety rules relating to fuelbefore fueling your unit.IMPORTANTExperience indicates that alcoholblended fuels (called gasohol or usingethanol or methanol) can attract reels-

-7-

ture which leads to separation andformation of acids during storage. Acidicgas can damage the fuel system of anengine while in storage. To avoid engine problems, empty fuelsystem before storage for 30 days orlonger. Drain gas tank, start engine andlet it run until fuel lines and carburetor

are empty. Use fresh fuel next season.Never use engine or carburetor cleanerproducts in the fuel tank or permanentdamage may occur.Fuel stabilizer is an acceptable alterna-tive in minimizing the formation of fuelgum deposits during storage. CRAFTS-MAN brand oil is already blended withfuel stabilizer. See the STORAGE sectionfor additional information.

STOPPING YOUR ENGINE• Push and hold the STOP switch until

the engine stops.• If engine does not stop, move the

choke to the FULL CHOKE position.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENTCarburetor adjustment is critical and ifdone improperly can permanently dam-age the engine as well as the carburetor. If you require further assistance or areunsure about performing this procedure, call our customer assistance help line at1-800-235-5878.

Old fuel, a dirty air filter, a dirty fuel filter,or flooding may give the impression ofan improperly adjusted carburetor.Check these conditions before adjustingthe carburetor. The carburetor has been carefully set atthe factory. Adjustments may be neces-sary if you notice any of the followingconditions:

• Engine will not idle. See "Idle Speed"and "Mixture" under adjustingprocedure.

-9-

• Engine dies or hesitates instead of ac-celerating. See "Acceleration Check"under adjusting procedure.

• Loss of power. See "Mixture" under ad-justing procedure.

CARBURETOR PRESETSWhen making carburetor preset adjust-ments, do not force plastic limiter capsbeyond the stops or damage will occur. If carburetor presets are not needed, proceed to "ADJUSTING PROCEDURE,Idle Speed."To adjust presets:• Turn the mixture screw counterclock-

wise until it stops.• Turn the idle speed screw clockwise

until it stops. Now turn counterclock-wise 4-1/2 turns.

Start motor, let it run for 8 minutes, andproceed to the adjustment section. If en-gine does not start, refer to troubleshoot-ing chart or call 1-800-235-5878.
