6 Cut off the bottom of the rosette so thatyouhaveaflatsurfacetoattachyour ring. Place a piece of tape over the edge you’ve just cut off. Press the bottomwithyourthumbstoflatteniteven more.

7 To make a ring, simply fold a piece of duct tape over itself lengthwise, roll into a ring and tape. Use tape to attach your rosette, and you’re done!

8 For the earrings, we recommend adhering the earring back with a spot of glue to keep it in place while you use the duct tape.

9 To attach the pin back, cut your tape sothatitfitsthroughtheopening, andthat’s it. We did the same process using a pin to create a brooch. And there you have it! A whole suite of playful accessories made almost entirely using duct tape!

1 We’ll start by showing you the step by step for our turquoise rosette ring. First, roll out a piece of duct tape and mark every 1 1/2 inch.

2 Cut into 10 strips, and then cut again lengthwise so you have 20 pieces.

3 Fold the top right corner over as pictured above, then fold the top left corner.

4 Repeat until you’ve folded all 20 pieces.

I added a LOT of tiny knob buttons down the front of this sweater. AND made holes for each. I loved the way the red and white twine looked like peppermints, so I added a few to the neckline and then asymmetrically added them down the front.

1 Take your wire and begin twisting it around three beads to form a small cluster. These will be the eggs in the nest.

2 After these are secure, begin wrapping the wire around the beads to make the nest. Wrap in a circular form getting wider and wider to make the nest bigger. Also, intertwine the wire throughouttofillgapsandmakeitmoresecure so to not bend out of shape.

3 Once you’ve got the shape and size nest you want, leave 2-3 inches of the end to make a loop at the top for a chain.

Bird Nest Necklace by Kinsey from Sincerelykinsey

Create this very pretty bird nest necklace with only a few beads and some wire. It’s simple to make and perfect for last minute gifts. It’s also pretty light and it goes well with anything!

1 Apply a very thin bead of glue down the length of the top of the metal barrette clip. If you accidentally apply too much glue, use a q-tip to remove the excess.

2 Choose your sturdiest, thickest feather. And use that for your base feather. Apply the feather to the top of the barrette and press the feather down until the glue holds on its own.

3 Wait for it to dry and then apply your second feather, working out from the center.

4 Repeat step four with additional feather until you’ve achieved your desired look. Pro tip: If any area looks alittlesloppyoncefinished, applyonesmall feather with glue on top of the messy area to cover it up.

5 Wait for everything to dry completely. And you have yourself a brand new feathered barrette!

Wooden Ornamentsby Maria El-Aaraj from Maria Super Mom

During Christmas, we all love to spend some quality time with our children, help them decorate for Christmas and teach them how to be creative. This project is a very simple yet very original project for the holidays. Your kids could hang those decorated sticks on their tree.

1 Use the sharp tip of the picture hanging hook to make a small hole in the top of the ball and carefully screw the hook into the ball as far as you can.

2 If you want to paint the ball white do so now. I did some painted white and others not. I really liked the ones that were not painted better but it all depends on the condition of the golf ball and how much blank space there was to work with.

3 Once dry, using a black sharpie, make 2 dots for the eyes and some for the smiley mouth. I used the divots in the ball as my guide. The smile isn’t perfectly shaped this way but I like how it looked. I used a really light pink

marker to create rosy cheeks on the snowman and an orange marker for the nose. I put names and 2010 on the back side so we can remember when it was made.

4 I then put a thin coat of silver glitter ModgePodge over the entire golf ball. You can’t really see this in the pictures but it added a nice touch to the ornament.

5 Tie a ribbon and you are set!

5 Carefully remove the pile of strings from the cardboard. Tie the entire bundle with string as TIGHTLY as possible. The string should be long enough to tie the bow later.

6 With your awesome sewing scissors, cut each loop in half. You’ll want to do this over a garbage can, it gets messy. Afteryou’vecuteachloop, fluffthematerial out to make a ball. Trim the ball downtoaroundsphere, fluffingasyougo, but leave the excess thread as it is.

7 Set your poms aside & tie bows out of your fabric or ribbon.

8 Thread each excess end with a needle through the bow to secure the bow onto the pom.

9 Tie a knot at the end of the excess thread.

1 When cutting fabric, cut strips parallel to the stretch so each strip. Run each stripthroughyourfist, stretchingthematerial slightly. Each strip will curl around itself, forming a hollow string.

2 Wrap each string around the card. The longer the card, the larger the pom. Don’t worry that the string isn’t continuous, just keep layering each segment on top of the other.

3 Once you get a nice pile of jersey wrapped around the card, you’re ready to tie it off.

4 Before removing the pile of strings, tie one side of the loop off. This helps to keep the strings organized when you pull it off the cardboard.

1 Cut three pieces of wire (approximately 10 inches each) and bend the top of each wire into a loop.

2 I used a dab of hot glue to attach the 3 wires together and then wrapped a small piece of paper around the glue to hide it. Make sure the loops are pointing in various directions.

3 Draw three circles of gradually increasing size on the back of the scrapbook paper. I used thee mugs to draw the circles in these sizes: 3.5 inches, 4.25 inches and 5.25 inches.

4 Cut the circles out leaving approximately 1/2 an inch outside the circle and then carefully rip the paper along the line to give a rough edge.

6 Once dry, use sharpie markers to draw accents i.e. arms, eyes, hat, etc. Don’t press too hard or the paint will come off. I wrote my child’s name and date on the bottom so we know when it was done and by whom. I also wrote ‘Merry Christmas’ on the back but you can’t really see it in the picture.

1 Cut three circles (small, medium, large) from your scrap book paper using the circle template.

2 Cut out of each circle the quarter section as marked

3 Add additional decoration as desired on each circle using glitter glue or glitter pens. Let dry.

4 Using the glue stick, glue along on straight edge.

5 Pull the other straight edge to over lap the glue making a cone. Place a paperclip along the glued edge to hold in place until the glue dries.

6 Cut a piece of ribbon about 10” long. Fold in half. Tie a pony bead on to the loose end (the pony bead is to keep the cones from sliding off the ribbon or out of place). Thread the ribbon through the hole in the top of the largest cone (if the hole is too small make a small cut so the ribbon will thread through.

7 Tie another pony bead about 1” above the large cone. Thread the ribbon through the whole of the medium cone.

8 Tie another pony bead on about 1” above the medium cone and thread on the smallest cone.

9 Optional. Cut slits in the lower edge of each cone and curl the slitted paper upwards using a pencil.

3 Spray the bottle caps with spray primer. Let them dry.

4 Spray paint the caps. (Chose an assortment of colors, or keep them mono- chromatic.)

5 While the caps are drying, print out your circle faces. Cut them out using a 1» hole punch or a 1" circle template and scissors. (Use a Friskars hole cutter so you can see where you are punching.)

6 Put a dollop of E-6000 glue at the bottom of the cap. Then press the photo into the glue.

7 Coat each paper circle with Elmer’s glue to protect the paper from darkening during the resin pour.

8 Let the glue dry (about 30 minutes). Take time to read the directions for using the EnviroTex Lite. There is the potential to screw up, so know what you are doing before you start.

9 Some bubbles will go away on their own, but be sure to pop air bubbles as they rise to the surface with a lighter.

10 Allow the EnviroTex to dry overnight. Use the time to make your flower stems with the armature wire. Cut each wire to 7". Follow the diagram next page to bend and shape the leaves.

11 You may need to practice a few times to get the hang of shaping your flower stem (at least I had to.)

12 In the morning, check to make sure the resin has hardened, then flip over the bottle caps. Line up the flowers and set the magnets and stems on the back of the bottle cap flowers.

13 Use a big dollop of E-6000 to attach the magnet and wire stem to each bottle cap.

14 As the glue starts to harden, gently lift up the flowers and make sure the faces are straight. You can gently adjust the wire before the glue hardens completely.

15 Once the E-6000 has dried you can still make minor adjustments to the stems by bending the wires.

16 Finito! You are done and have an adorable flower magnet for Grandma or a loved one who lives too far away.

Place it down, cover it with a pressing cloth, and press with your iron for about 10-15 seconds.) Make sure you iron it to the side you want to be the «front» of your key chain.

5 Then cut it out, along with the back of your key chain.

6 Place wrong sides together, and place two pins about 1" or so apart on the bottom.

7 Sew from pin to pin, around the circle, about 1/4" away from the edge.

8 Then trim the edges all the way around with pinking shears.

9 Cut a piece of your twill tape or ribbon about 2" long. (ignore the fact that this piece is longer, 2" works better!)

10 Fold it over your key ring, insert into the opening on the bottom of your key chain, and sew the opening closed, back stitching at the beginning and end.

11 Trim threads, and you’re done! Make a ton more for friends and family!1 decide what scraps you’d like to use,

and iron on the medium interfacing to the wrong side of the fabric.

(that white piece is the Peltex)

2 If you’re going to do an applique or buttons, trace around your pattern onto the right side of the fabric so that you know how to place it.

3 For example, you can add a quick appliqued C to this one.

3 Cut a piece of wick to be slightly longer than the teacup. Tape one end to the bottom of the cup and wrap the other end around a pencil or pen.

4 When the wax has melted pour it into the cup.

5 Let the wax cool for at least 2-3 hours and then cut the wicks. While the one on the right was cooling I added a little nutmeg in the top for scent and to look cute, like a little spiced drink.

Here is a picture of all that you need. The pink and white wax in the contai-ners are leftover scented candles. If you aren’t re-using scented candles you can add a few drops of essential oil to the wax to scent it.

1 Put the chunks of wax in the tin can. As you can see I mixed some of the new wax with the scented old leftover wax.

2 Put the tin can in the middle of a saucepan of boiling water. This way it melts correctly and doesn’t make a big huge mess in your cookware.

Tea Cup Candlesby Merissa from Little House Living

I saw the idea for this on a bookcover in a bookstore on vacation and I thought it was so cute! You can make «candle making» cheaper by re-using leftover wax.

1 If the jar lids are not in seasonal colors already, paint them with oil-based enamel paint.

2 Sand the inside of the lid until the surface is rough.

3 With clear-drying epoxy, adhere the figurine to the inside of the lid, and let the epoxy dry.

4 Fill the jar almost to the top with distilled water; add a pinch of glitter and a dash of glycerin to keep the glitter from falling too quickly. Don’t add too much, or the glitter will stick to the bottom of the jar when it’s flipped.

5 Screw on the lid tightly, being careful not to dislodge the figurine. Turn the jar over and back again -- and let it snow.

Snow Globesby Martha Steward

Create a Winter Wonderland in a Jar. The shimmering magic of snowfall is always transfixing, whether it’s outside your window or inside this classic toy. Homemade globes let you create a wintry scene straight out of your own imagination.

1 Find a springtime pattern and cut out your pieces. This is the creative part, so let your imagination run wild! Keep in mind that simple and bold images work best with busy patterned fabric.

2 Pin and sew your pieces. If you are using a sewing machine, use either a small and very close together zig-zag stitch or your buttonhole stitch, and stitch all around the raw outer edges of your pieces. Pull the thread tails through to the back, tie them together, and cut them off instead of back stitching to finish. If you prefer a hand embroidered look, then get out your hoop and stitch away!

3 Finish off with any final touches! Here we added a scrap of pink rick rack, but you could also add fun bias tape, lace, ribbon, whatever your crafty heart craves.

Interview

pages I’ve done, and used to be obses-sive! Sewing has kind of taken over for now, but someday I’ll use all the sup-plies I’m hoarding.

How do you come up with your amazingly creative ideas?! Everywhere! I am always studying people’s clothing (so if you think I’m staring at your chest, sorry, it’s the ruf-fles...I promise) or snagging pics from the internet, magazines, books. Inspira-tion can come from anywhere! What’s your favorite way to add a little character to your creations? Add some buttons, pleats, or ruffles.

How do you find time to craft?By tying the kids up in the closet. I jest! During naps/quiet time and after bed-time.

What is the one sewing/crafting tool you can’t live without? Sewing machines excluded :) My cutting mat and rotary cutter! I use them with every single sewing project I do.

What is one tip you would give to a newbie interested in getting started on sewing? Where to start? What is a must have? Well, a sewing machine is good to have... ;) Start with a project with straight lines to build your confidence. I started with bibs and burp clothes mostly, they’re great to have around for presents, and easy to make! The Bapron is easy and impressive. :)

What’s the one thing you like least about sewing?Unpicking seams. Blech! What does your sewing room look like? Besides the type of sewing machine someone has, I’m always curious to know where a person sews! What is the process behind creating something brand new?First, sketching out a pattern. Then, sometimes I make a muslin (practice piece, usually out of cheap or crap fa-bric) to make sure it fits, but usually I dive right in and try making it. I learn best by making mistakes, but I often will work out, in my head, how to construct something for days or weeks even, be-fore I make it. It usually comes together pretty smoothly if I do that.

Meet Jessica from Craftiness Is Not Optional!

Who?Her name is Jessica but everyone calls her Jess. She is a happily married mother of three cute little girls.

What?Jess has a blog about her «compulsive need to sew clothing» for her daughters, but she aslo dabbles in other crafts and sewing projects.

When did you start sewing, and how did you learn?I sewed skirts and things when I was younger, mainly being prodded by my mom. I hated it but liked the feeling of making it myself. Then when I got pregnant, I wanted to make my baby a blanket. The rest is history! I am mostly self-taught, using the wonders of inter-net tutorials and how tos. There is so much information out there these days, it’s amazing.

Where do you seeing yourself creativity-wise in regards to sewing in 5 years? Designing your own fabric line? Owning a fabric shop? Teaching classes? Definitely I see myself becoming a mil-lionaire from my sewing/pattern/fabric lines. BWAHAHAA. ok, so maybe that’s a stretch, but I’ve always thought having a fabric store would be awesome (I’d soo be my best customer), but really, I’ll probably still be sewing up a storm for my kids and having to bribe them even more to wear the clothes since they’ll be older. ;) Someday I’d love to get in the pattern business.

Where do you find your inspiration for color combinations before you start

sewing a quilt? I start off by finding one fabric that has lots of colors in it that I like, and then pulling other fabrics that have the same colors. Stripes, polka dots, solids...but it all comes back to that one fabric. (or two, or three, really)

Do you knit? Crochet? If not, will you learn how to soon?I have crocheted exactly one thing in my life, and it took me about 5 years. I am teaching myself how to make easy flowers and bows though!

If you didn’t sew, what could you see yourself doing creatively? If I didn’t sew, I’d probably still be into scrapbooking. I have 20+ albums full of
