The aim of this presentation is to acquaint you with the CPP as product for flexible packaging and Market Estimation for the CPP in India.
Aim
Introduction What is CPP? Applications V/s Microns Research and Analysis Observations and Findings Key Learnings Issues Faced Bibliography
Overview
The term CPP is used in the plastics industry to describe polypropylene-based films produced by a cast extrusion process (Cast Polypropylene).
These types of films differ from BOPP (Biaxially-Oriented Polypropylene) because they are not oriented from both MD and TD.
Orientation is a process that increases the tensile strength of film in a specific direction by stretching or rolling.
CPP films experience a small amount of orientation, but only in the Machine Direction (MD), due to the nature of the process.

Applications v/s Microns
*As per the Market research Based on small data.
Application v/s Microns as per industry standards
The research started from 8th November 2010 and continued till 28th December 2010.
The research included meetings with the converters, Manufacturers and the End Users of CPP in the various segments.
The segmentation of the market was done as East, West, Southern and Northern part of India.
We personally covered only the Northern region of the country which included cities of Kanpur and Delhi NCR.
Rest of the Data was either collected on telephone or through the company sources.
There were total 34 respondents the sample size was less due to the Time and Availability constraint.
Research and Analysis
The objective of the research report was to estimate the market size of CPP in India.
The sampling plan was as follows:

CPP cannot be used in the chips packets due to less OTR and the manufacturers cannot use Nitrogen Rush for inert atmosphere.
Prices of CPP are not stable they keep on rising wit the prices of PET.
Elongation properties of CPP are very high so it is tough to use CPP in adhesive tapes.
Gauge difference in the CPP sheets is a problem.
CPP packs are tough to be used in the Detergent bags due to less strength and high elongation.
Problems faced while using CPP
CPP cannot be used in the pan masala packs because of bad tearing properties and less crispy voice.
The density of CPP is 0.91 which is very low for bread packaging
Tea packets also cannot use CPP because of dust the obstruction in packaging due to dust thus loss in aroma.
CPP is not produced below 18 micron. Wrinkle problems in the CPP from the local
manufacturers. CPP when imported has lower cost effectiveness.

Manufacturers:1. More manufacturers are putting in the plants for the
CPP manufacturing as it is taking over the Indian Packaging industry.
2. Uflex and Polyplex limited who have installed the CPP production unit abroad also to meet the ever growing demand.
3. Growth rate of the Indian Packaging Industry is very robust close to 15% per annum.
4. Converters not aware of the CPP.5. Supply chain and logistics issues.6. Payment terms are close to 15 days to 1Month.7. CPP laminates less than 18 Micron are desperately
required in the market.
Observations and Findings
Converters:1. CPP films of 22 microns are extensively used.2. It is best for the retort packaging of the food.3. High volatility in the prices.4. Availability a major concern.5. High flexibility makes it tear proof which acts
against it for Gutkha and Masala.6. Highly used in the Namkeens and Biscuits
packaging.7. High gloss and better than BOPP.8. Many of the people shifted from MET PET to
MET CPP due tot the cost effectiveness and saving of one layer in the pakaging.
The most toughest part of the training was to collect the data as most of the people in the industry are very conservative.
The time frame for the collection of the data was very limited and the mobility was also limited to large area to be covered.
It was tough to cope up with the new environment but due to very helpful approach from seniors helped us in every aspect.
