Dear Parents and Carers, COVID-19
A huge thank you to all the parents of this community. I know it is very trying times.
All families are keeping their children home if they are sick and this has helped with
the spreading of germs.
I just wanted you to all know that all my decisions are being made for the best of all
the children at this school in alliance with DET and NSW Ministry of Health. I am
updated daily and will notify you through SkoolBag of any changers that affect us.
There has been many rumours going around, especially with the topic of ‘school
closures’. We have not been given a date, it is business as usual with restricted
measures. All schools receive emails at the same time, so no other school has been
given any different information than what we receive daily.
Can I ask your assistance on keeping calm in the community, reinforcing hygiene and
enforcing distancing measures? Can you ask your children to limit the conversations
of COVID-19 to a minimum at school as this information may get misinterpreted by
younger students and add to the unnecessary hype?

ZONE SWIMMING
What a great swim by Sarah. Sarah represented us in 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke. She did
Cowan proud. Thank you Sarah for representing Cowan, I hope you could hear me cheering from the
deckside.
THE WORLD’S GREATEST SHAVE
April participated in 'The World's Greatest Shave'. She certainly contributed to the mission to shave the
world from blood cancer. April, you are ‘Simply the Best’. Photos in our next newsletter.
April raised approximately $1800. Many families are touched by this awful disease and I am sure April’s
money will help get closer to a cure.
If you still would like to sponsor April, please follow the below link.

SYDNEY NORTH DANCE FESTIVAL
This information came in overnight:
In line with current Government Public Health Advice, the 2020 Sydney North Public Schools Dance
Festival has been postponed. At this stage, we are tentatively rescheduling the Festival with the hope
that the embargo on indoor gatherings such as theatre shows will lift in time.
Subject to Government Health Advice and Department Policy, we are proposing to move the Festival to
Weeks 9 and 10 of Term 3 (14th - 25th September 2020). Please note that this is a tentative booking,
and we will review the likelihood of the event closer to the date.
The students will now be completing a video audition next term instead of turning up to another school and
doing it in person.
SCHOOL TOURS
School tours were conducted last week. It is always lovely to meet new community families. If you know
of anyone who missed out, I am prepared to hold personal tours. Just ask them to ring the office and
book a time.
SCHOOL INVOICES
Term 1 School Fees are now due. If you are unable to pay at this time, can you please notify the office or
myself?
HARMONY DAY and
DAY of ACTION AGAINST VIOLENCE and BULLYING
On Thursday we celebrated Harmony day and Day of Action. It was lovely to see Cowan with a touch of
orange. Harmony Day was established to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity and to be a day of
cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Harmony Day is all about togetherness and
kindness, about sharing experience and knowledge. In a small but meaningful way this day of celebration
- of respect for diversity - works to create the conditions that erase fear and create friendships. Something
Cowan children do well.
The National Day of Action against Violence and Bullying (NDA) is an important day to mark Australian
school communities standing together against bullying and violence. Last month, the school created a
video for Quaden to reinforce the message that we do not stand for any type of bullying – BULLYING –
NO WAY!
TELL THEM FROM ME
I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a
Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey
measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes.
The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what
they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers
interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From
Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things
at our school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take
less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours next week. Participating in
the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form will be sent home with students today. If you do not want your child or children to
participate, please return the form to school by Wednesday 25th March 2020. Copies of the form and
FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.
Let’s hope for a happy healthy three weeks leading up to the school holidays.
Kind Regards
Tracey Darby
