MISSIONe Covington Ladies Home exclusively serves senior women, regardless of their economic circumstances, by providing high quality personal care in a community based and homelike setting. Its purpose is to assist with basic care needs in a manner that respects the individual’s dignity, maximizes

independent functioning and encourages continued social contacts.

VISIONCovington Ladies Home provides senior women a safe and comfortable

environment, focused on maintaining each lady’s personal independence and intellectual and psycho-social well-being.

Our beautiful Victorian home is a landmark that exemplies the generosity of our community. We are a community that cares. Our Home was built

with excellence in 1894 and has been lovingly modied through the years. is same spirit of excellence compels us to move forward with a building plan that will provide improved care and attention to scal responsibility.

Our “130 Years and Counting” Capital Campaign will raise funds to build a modern facility attached to our historic building The new facility is

a physical blueprint that responds to the needs of women at this time in this century and beyond. The single floor plan provides opportunities for

stimulation and social interaction for the ladies within an environment that benefits their total health needs.Affordable personal care provided with the

high standards of the Covington Ladies Home is vital to our community safety net of care.

We trust friends across our community to embrace the Covington Ladies Home mission that has been sustained for 130 years

as we move forward together.

Alice SpksHonorary Campaign Chair &

Covington Ladies Home Fiscal Trustee

De Friends and Neighbs,I’m proud to be involved with Covington Ladies Home during an exceptional

time in our history. This year, the Ladies Home celebrates 130 continuous years of providing older women, regardless of their means, refuge here among their peers in this wonderful homelike environment. When women can no longer safely live alone they find a comfortable “room of their own” at Covington Ladies Home. They are supported by professional staff whose care is beyond measure.

Our cherished Victorian at 7th & Garrard, built in 1894, has served us well but advancements and new knowledge in elder care prompt a call to action we cannot ignore. The CLH Board has approved a New Building Campaign to establish a one floor facility connected to our historic building. Three resident wings will accommodate up to 43 women in private rooms with on-suite baths. The modern, single floor plan provides opportunities for stimulation and social interaction for the ladies. It addresses the total health needs of our 21st century residents.

Just as Ellen Dietrich and her circle of friends rose to the challenges before them, we ask that you please contribute to our “130 Years and Counting” Campaign so the Ladies Home and our mission may continue. We can’t accomplish this transformation without you. The Ladies Home has been a linchpin in the area’s safety net of care for elderly women -- one that must remain vibrant for the next 100 years.

Across 130 years, the community has generously rallied to help support Covington Ladies Home. For the women who raised you, for our daughters and granddaughters, and for the betterment of Covington, today please show you care.

Sincerely,

Alice Sparks, Honorary Campaign Chair& Covington Ladies Home Fiscal Trustee

Our HISTORYe Covington Ladies Home was founded in 1886 by West Covington resident Mrs. Ellen B. Dietrich to care for elderly indigent women who had nowhere to turn in the wake of the catastrophic Flood of 1884. Elderly poor women had no shelter, no income or resources, no means with which to re-build their lives. With the help of philanthropically-minded friends, Ellen Battelle Dietrich established e Women’s Educational and Industrial Union, which provided an employment bureau, a sewing school, and classes in housekeeping for women in need so they might improve their circumstances while preserving their dignity. Mrs. Dietrich would later go on to help found the organization that became the League of Women Voters because the needs and struggles of women were of paramount importance to her.

An enduring aspect of the Educational & Industrial Union was the Home for Aged and Indigent Women, known today as Covington Ladies Home.

The Covington Ladies Home welcomes women 65 years and older. Our current residents’ ages range from 65 to 95 and up to 3/4 of the women who live here cannot afford the full cost of their care. When elderly women can no longer safely live alone, CLH is here. We

turn no lady away simply because of her financial circumstances. These Ladies are our sisters, mothers, grandmas, and aunts, they were our neighbors, our teachers, our

coaches and scout leaders. They cared for us. Now it’s our turn to care for them.

The Covington Ladies Home believes everyone has a right to live out their days with honor and dignity. We provide every lady a comfortable private room, 3 nutritious chef-

prepared meals a day, housekeeping services, nursing support (including medication administration), planned activities, laundry, a sense of belonging and community,

and much more. We are a Personal Care Home, providing individualized care for all residents. Nurses and aides ensure that medications are taken correctly and consistently. We monitor

physical, emotional and behavioral changes in residents and respond as needed. Our activities promote physical and mental well-being among residents, helping to forestall dementia and

memory issues. We are there providing comfort and care 24/7, 365 days a year.

The Covington Ladies Home can currently provide private rooms for up to 32 ladies. We have been able to offer this safe haven for 130 years, because of our ingenious 30/30/30 business model. , 30% of the ladies pay full rent, 30% of the ladies pay

based upon a sliding-scale and 30% of the

21st Century elders’ needs have changed. To be the first choice of a full-pay resident, we must have private baths, visiting areas, and outdoor spaces. We must improve the Covington

Ladies Home in order to compete, we must compete to survive.

Covington Ladies Home has been offering peace of mind to older women and their families for 130 years. We owe it to our community to continue this commitment to care.
