Currently I work in TFL”s Surface Transport Health and Safety team as a CDM/Health and Safety Manager. I work on surface transport construction works projects that includes major road improvements to the Transport for London Road Network TLRN and sites in Borough Roads and plus other TFL assets such as Tunnel and Bridges (structures) plus Bus Infrastructure Assets and stations and cycle related projects of varying scales and feel the position advertised of the Health and Safety Manger is very much suited to me and therefore I would like to be considered for this position.

I have numerous years (20) under my belt as a Scaffolder, Supervisor and a manager for a large number of scaffolding contracts and consider myself to be a competent and conceiencous professional in this particular field of expertise.

I am currently assigned CDM/H&S Manager numerous schemes in the Transport for London Areas. These works entail footway and carriage widening and realignment and improvements to reduce road collisions, make the area safe for pedestrians and to reduce congestion and delays and have also entailed major cycle super highways works. In addition I lead as appointed CDM/H&S Manager for a number of Traffic Infrastructure and Signal multi site programme of works. I am the appointed CDM/H&S lead and assistant for projects such as the Road Space Management (RSM) programme, the Modernization of Traffic Signals project and the completed Pedestrian Countdown at Traffic Signals (PCaTs project)

The Construction Scheme/projects I act as CDM/H&S Manager for works that are delivered through either the London Alliance Highways Contact (LOHAC) or for specialist Signals works Traffic Control Maintenance and Related Services (TCMS) Contracts. The projects I work on vary across a number of directorates of which a number of them are programmes of works with in excess of 100 sites. I regularly attend design and programmes review meetings, site visits and provide advice in respect to CDM/H&S to clients, designers, principal contactors, (PC), stakeholders, external agencies and Boroughs.

My experience of CDM/H&S over the past 20+years has given me more practical and knowledgeable understanding of the role of a CDM/H&S professional and a good Knowledge of the functions required by this legislation and the processes involved. With my knowledge and understanding of these processes My Role at TFL entails the coordination of all aspects of activities associated with design, procurement and construction to delivery ensuring full compliance with the statutory requirements of CDM 2015. With these processes in mind I understand the importance of Health and safety legislation relating to construction and civil engineering projects and the management of health & safety at work etc. and applying these with the CDM regulations and health and safety and construction processes and company policies and business objectives.

I have introduced and put in place processes using TFL quality officers and principal contractors to deal with the submission and approval of H&S files information for specific Traffic projects that entail reviewing high numbers of H&S file information. This process has simplified the approval process and has increased sufficiency and improved the quality of submitted information.
