“To promote professional excellence in materialsmanagement towards national Prosperity throughsustainable development.”

Mr. D K Goswamy programme coordinator introducedspeaker and subject:

“Marketers make promises to customers to generatedemand. Delivering on those promises can have apositive or negative impact on the perception of yourbrand. If you deliver an order late, if you can’t meet arush order request, your brand invariably suffers. In anera of ever-increasing customer demands andimpatience, it is your supply chain that often representsa critical opportunity for you to build or destroy yourbrand. Supply chain is often regarded as either a nuisanceor an irrelevance. That is, until something goes wrongor a promise cannot be met. Suddenly, your supplychain’s shortcomings become the center of attention.

Poor supply chain performance drives customers away.An enthusiastic customer can be lost as a result of a singlebad buying experience; and a prospective customer canbe turned away from your product by a poor orinadequate buying experience. It is time for brand andmarketing executives to pay more attention to theirsupply chains. They must be accountable for aligning thebrand promise with their company’s supply chaincapability, because it has a powerful impact on customerexperience and brand perception.

One promise that is expected of every brand is deliveringthe right product to the right place at the right time.Your supply chain capabilities can make or break yourability to fulfill that promise. As a result, your supplychain has a powerful impact—positive or negative—onyour brand. Brain Storming meet on 22nd November : A BrainStorming meet was organized for the members ofMumbai Branch at Swan Club, Yeoor Hills, Thane on 22nd

November, 2015.

Nearly 35 members attended the meeting including Mr.Ashok Sharma . former National President, Dr. SantoshTendulkar, Dean-Wellingkar Mgt Institute and formerChairman, Mumbai Branch and EC/NC members ofIIMM, some top officials from companies like Godrej,Technova, L & T, M & M, RIL, etc.

Chairman Mr. Ashok Mhatre welcomed the memberspresent and shared with them the purpose of BrainStorming meet. He informed that there is a need of doingSWOT analysis of the branch and defining the problemsfaced so that corrective actions could be taken. Heinformed that the admissions to GDMM are decliningday by day as if it is losing its charm. He then appealedthe members to ponder over the issues and requestedthem to define the problem and come forward withsome concrete solutions.

The members present discussed about the decliningtrend of GDMM admissions day by day and opined thatit is a cause of concern. Members tried to find out theroot cause of the problem. Some of the findings were-many management institutes have started offeringcourses in SCM and related fields. They are mostly cashrich institutes with top class infrastructure and havingstrong financial provisions for marketing .their productswhich helps in Image Branding and plays main role inpursuing and enrolling the students for their courses.

It was then opined that we need to restructure thesyllabus and make it more market related. Find out fromthe companies what exactly they look for and whatexactly they want the GDMM students to do after joiningthe company. Revise the syllabus accordingly, rename itas per current trends and offer the new productaggressively.

Mr. Sharma opined that IIMM is not an academicinstitute but a professional institute. So if we considerourselves as an academic institute, lot of competitionis there, but if we consider ourselves as professional, hardly any competition is there. As IIMM is the onlyprofessional body in SCM across the nation.

However, as those suggestions do not come in thepurview of local branch, it was decided to makesuggestions in NC members meeting to NHQ and requestthem to take corrective actions.

At branch level, can increase the membership, invitemore students for GDMM by paying more visits to theprivate and public sector companies, by organizing freeprograms for Industries Associations, increase themarketing efforts through adds, arranging awarenessprograms, invite top officials for guest lecture, payIndustry visits etc.

The meeting ended with vote of thanks to the chair.
