I chose this photo because as an overall photo it has a large contrast in the colours of her clothes, compared with her hair and the background. This would make it stand out from the others on the shelf.

To add to this, the bright lighting is used to enhance these colours, such as the bright lipstick and hair, for example. This then eliminates any chance of shadows if there is lighting from all sides of the girl.

However, what is not aesthetically pleasing about this photo is the lack of lighting coming from all angles. This creates a shadow underneath the girls neck and left arm which is not typical to a magazine front cover. The girls body language is relaxed, as it appears as if she is leaning against the wall. This makes the overall image appear quite laid back, which is what my cover lines for this particular issue are about. If I were to use this photo then the shadows would have to be photo shopped.

I chose this photo because I liked the models body language and facial expressions, as I feel like this portrays the overall gothic theme. It also shows how serious she is, which makes the overall theme more effective. However, the model isn't looking directly at the camera, as well as the overall photo being landscape in general. There are also shadows underneath the girls neck, which would have to be photo shopped out if this were the final for the photo to be used.

This is the chosen photo for my magazine front cover, as it follows all of the codes and conventions that make an aesthetically pleasing front cover.

It as an overall photo it has a large contrast in the colours of her clothes, compared with her hair and the background. This would make it stand out from the others on the shelf. To add to this, the bright lighting is used to enhance these colours, such as the bright lipstick and hair, further. This then eliminates any chance of shadows if there is lighting from all sides of the girl.

However, what is not aesthetically pleasing about this photo is the lack of lighting coming from all angles. This creates a large shadow on her eyes and underneath her right arm where her hand joins her hip, which is not typical to a magazine front cover. The girls body language is relaxed, as it appears as if she is leaning against the wall. Combined with the casual makeup, it gives the overall image appear quite laid back, which is what my cover lines for this particular issue are about. If I were to use this photo then the shadows would have to be photo shopped.
