Basic collection RESOPAL® >2013No matter how good we are – we must never stop getting better

The unique way in which the Resopal brand was presented in the form of a book for the firsttime in 2003 represented a breakthrough in the presentation of surface decors. Numerous large-format and full-page illustrations, instead of the small samples as previously used, showed off thematerial and colour properties of the decors to advantage. The intention even then was to give thereader a vivid impression of the “Sensuality of the Surface”, as the company itself described it, inthe new book entitled RESOPAL® >2008.

After referring to RESOPAL® >2008 as our standard collection we now, only five years later, present RESOPAL® >2013, the latest book on laminate surfaces. RESOPAL® >2013 is already settingnew standards in 2008 and taking a stand for the design properties and perspectives of laminate. I am convinced that there is no comparable surface in terms of design, functionality and freedom of design. We have further refined our appreciation of material that has aged gracefully and matured. We continuously strive to help laminate acquire the relevance it deserves. In future, design will not only involve the development of decors. It will be manifested in deep, natural and expressive structures that open up new dimensions for surface design.

Our new book verifies our ambition to offer you complete system solutions for meeting all yourchallenges and to guarantee the necessary planning security until 2013 – whether you are an architect, interior designer, specifier, cabinet maker, carpenter, artist, student or fan of Resopal, whether you design facades, rooms, furniture, buildings, means of transportation or other projects. Our ambition is documented in our slogan "Everything’s feasible", and of course in the originalRESOPAL® quality.

Our promise of quality is upheld by people who are continuously motivated and committed tomaking you – our customers – successful. With RESOPAL® we would like to assist you in your choiceof a certain material for a very particular and individual situation. We would like to offer you richerdesign options and keep providing new, amazing ideas. Our aim is for your customers not to think of laminate at all when they see, hear or touch it, but for them to perceive the authentic materialityof the surface and learn to appreciate its functionality. The innovations of the past years havedemonstrated that we practice what we preach. For the future, we intend to continue leading theway as trendsetters in the industry.

And more than that: I hope that Resopal can play a very active role in shaping the future. This includes making it possible for the generations coming after us to lead satisfied and happylives. To achieve this, each and every employee at Resopal gladly and consciously assumes responsibility for our fellow citizens. That is why Resopal has to be good!

Let RESOPAL® >2013 fascinate you and immerse you in a world that has never been so diverse. You will be impressed with the possibilities that are open to you when you design living spaces withResopal!

2|3SENSUAL SURFACES – SPATIAL PHENOMENON

The designers’ world has gone white. Althoughwhite offers neither differentiation, nordistinctive accents nor shades of individuality.Human nature, however, is programmed forbeing distinguishable from the mass, distinc-tive and unique. Individual perceptions andexperiences are very significant for the designof the world in which we live. They form partof the mutual interaction between humans andproducts, and let values actually be created. The value of a product is always defined by thehuman user.

Surfacing products depend on this human-product relationship to a particular degree. They acquire their sensuality through humanperception of their colours, textures and glosslevels, their tectonic and haptic qualities. A visual impression is always confirmed byhands, fingertips and skin receptors. The sound of the surfaces reinforces the association. Surfaces undergo a metamor-phosis, transforming their two-dimensionalityinto spatial experiences – through people whodifferentiate and always act and think in threedimensions.

Planners and designers, architects and contractors are expected to gather people’sdiverse experiences, perceptions and needs and based on this material to generate roomsfull of innovation and originality. Creativeideas exist. But all too often, the professionalsmiss the animating tools to implement them. The new collection from Resopal offers a broad repertoire of companions, initiators and indicators that, similar to a recipe, help to make successful compositions.

The RESOPAL® >2013 collection brings together innovative products to which peoplecan relate. It connects with people, caters to their personal expectations and ideas, awakens positive interest and passions. It allows differences to be perceived andmasters the technique of differentiation.Surfaces full of meaning – meaningful surfacing products within worlds of emotionalexperiences. RESOPAL® as a brand and the newdesign collection as the emotional benefit pro-file of this brand interpret the diversity of life.

Desire, loyalty and social responsibility have asensual connection.

If the products are right and put people in the right mood, rare moments of joy arise, resulting – according to Hegel’s idealism –from the service character of a surfacing collection. Productivity and sense of servicebreathe life into the material. People’s individual lives are reflected in the interactionwith the surfacings. In this way the new collection ensures its relevance for the future. It presents products that are basically put tointelligent use by people, enables catalyzingintentions and translating emotions.Consequently, the surface design is not merelya convincing high-tech product. It lets peopledevelop their own styles of life, so to speak.

The collection puts all planners, designers andcontractors in a position to generate particu-larly authentic atmospheres which acquiremeaning for other people, in addition to themanufacture and production of structures.Customer retention and brand loyalty areachieved through the look and feel of surfa-cings and their compatibility with other roomelements. The dedicated application of thelatest collection involves selection and com-mitment. This is one of the secrets of theinnovative and further sophisticated designlines from RESOPAL®. The new is different.Deceleration occurs. The surfacings allow timeto ponder and picture – a sure feeling of doingthe right thing and doing good.

The new collection unites tradition and futuresymbiotically and synergetically. The new that is different and the familiar repertoire complement each other and provide orientation. Those who handle this new design make their life special and different.Architects, planners, contractors and all creative people will acquire from it the certainty of being different. Unlike a fast trend or short-lived fashion, the new designlines quieten the designer’s conscience withsustainability or inspire to surprising bordertrips to the edges of the familiar. Surfacedesign crosses frontiers. The encounter with these new design lines resembles a

borderline situation. The designed surfaceopens up the mind for the essential. Design isnot nature’s opponent. To the contrary, thedesigned surface imparts realization of thenatural and durable, the simple, the personal.People and their ability to give things a meaning are design’s natural friend.

That is what is so marvellous about the newcollection from Resopal. It takes the thingsthat motivate people seriously – friendship, love, security and individuality. In the often soobjectified product world it enables a dialogueof interpersonal values. Surfacings convey con-tents with meaning. Touching the surfaces islike a flirt which begins a close emotional rela-tionship, and it resembles a ritual. The designritual shifts the attention from the pure utilityvalue of the products to their expressivityvalue. Hence, things become more valuable.

The new design lines cater to perceptions, lifestyles and desires. Human desire is thenumber-one instinct. The patterns in our surrounding world stimulate and regulatewants and desires, and pleasure.

The new collection from Resopal finds solutions to the distinction between needs and desires; it furnishes every contractor andspecifier, and all creative people with the toolfor ever-demanded discernibility and indi-viduality. It expresses the fact that Resopalshows due respect for what people perceiveand feel, stresses the magical and offers themysterious and wonderful. That is the magic ofthe room: experiencing surface decors in theirthree-dimensional composition and interaction with people.

In spite of theories which are often vague, blurred and weak, the "re-enchantment" of theroom is more significant and more consolingfor designers and users than exact and precisescientific theories.

Design means giving meaning to rooms and objects.

4|5THE BRAND – THE ORIGINALHistory and present

The history of Resopal is a model of industrial history. The beginnings of thecompany lie in marginal products of theclassical textile industry. New areas ofapplication arise with the arrival of newbranches of industry. The product of insulating materials for the aspiring electrical industry causes the company toexperiment with synthetic resins and thisresearch makes it advance to become a pioneer in plastics technology. The large-scale industrial production oftechnical laminates for the electrical industry leads in turn to the invention ofdecorative laminates for the furniture industry, in which the company finally specializes and where even today it is stillin the forefront with the same pioneeringspirit.

In November 16, 1867 August HermannRömmler founds a company in Spremberg in theNiederlausitz for recycling waste from cloth andhat production. The production of cotton flocksas a filler for gramophone record productionbrings Römmler into contact with plastics at anearly stage. Up to 1905 Hermann Römmlerjunior brings the production of electrotechnicalinsulating material to maturity usingsuch plastics. The electrotechnical departmentbecomes independent and advances to becomethe leading special factory for high-quality insulating materials. With the development ofthe pressure-heat process for hardenable plasticsRömmler soon becomes next to the Bakelitecompany the pioneer in plastics technology.

In 1917 the company is converted into ajoint stock company with administrative head-quarters in Berlin. From 1919 onwards the phenol formaldehyde condensation methoddeveloped in the laboratory is used on a largeindustrial scale for the production of syntheticresins, mouldings and insulating boards. In the 1920s the Römmler AD develops pressedmaterials on the basis of formaldehyde resinsand secures with patents a leading position inthe long term in the field of aminoplastics.

In 1929 BBC acquires a holding in the company and in 1930 it acquires the majorityshareholding before taking it over completely in 1938.

In 1930 Römmler registers the RESOPAL®patent and produces the first decorative boards:The galley a Zeppelin is fitted out in red RESOPAL®. In 1945 the production facilities, in which finally 2500 persons are employed,

are completely dismantled by the Soviet occupation forces.

In 1946 the company resumes productionas insulating materials department of BBC inthe old sugar mill on the present company sitein Groß-Umstadt. Resopal’s fortunes are restoredwith the modern built-in kitchen and the kidneytable of 1950s.

In 1971 the product name, which in themeantime has achieved a degree of familiarityof 85 percent, also becomes the name of thecompany.

In 1973 Resopal starts the large-scale industrial production of postforming worktopsand becomes leading kitchen worktop manufacturer in Germany.

In 1987 the Swiss Forbo AG acquires amajority holing in the BBC subsidiary. As a consequence the building division is expanded. The RESOPLAN® facade board becomes a furtherpillar of the company.

In 1998 the Resopal GmbH is acquired bythe worldwide operating American laminatemanufacturer Wilsonart International, which isa part of the ITW-Company (Illinois Toll WorksInc.). Wilsonart International currently employsmore than 4000 people in production plants, sales companies and service centers throughoutthe world.

Resopal – Patent No. 615 400The Viennese chemists Dr. Pollak and Dr. Ripper succeed in the 1920s with the production of hardenable ureas. In 1926 Dr. Ripper joins the Römmler AG where hedevelops the method and has it patented. The company registers the Resopal patent onDecember 19, 1930 and it is published on July 6, 1935 with effect from the day of registration. On the basis of the patentedmethod Römmler produces light-colouredlight-fast laminates and sells them under thebrand name of RESOPAL®. Constant furtherdevelopments of the resin, paper, printing, surface and pressing technology lead to thepresent-day modern product quality.

The versatility of the material also continuesto guarantee its future prospects. With its Know-How Resopal remains the pacesetter for innovative solutions.

10|11NCS NATURAL COLOR SYSTEM®©The professional colour design system

NCS®© – the colour systemThere are many colour systems. They are anecessary aid for working with colour. Thereare colour collections for certain industries, such as RAL for coloured paints in Germany, there are innumerous collections from different manufacturers, but there are also colour systems describing the colourspace logically and systematically independently of specific industry require-ments or fashion trends. Ideally there wouldbe a single defined and dimensioned colourspace to which all sample collections couldrefer. Instead of this different colour measuring methods and different coloursystems compete with one another. However asystem that has established itself worldwide isthe NCS Natural Color System®©.

Worldwide colour communicationThe system developed in Sweden, which isbased on the “natural” human sensation ofcolour, is used in the meantime throughoutEurope. In Sweden, Norway, Spain andSouthafrica the NCS®© is binding, in Denmarkand Switzerland practically standard. Wholeindustries, such as the laminate industry, throughout the world work with the system.NCS®© is currently represented in Europe with19 national sales offices and worldwide in theUSA, South Africa, Asia and Australia. Theadvantages for the designers, architects, plan-ners, buyers, etc. are obvious. NCS®© is

online, it is not a solitary island solution. Onecan communicate globally and across industri-al boundaries in a single colour language. Onecan co-ordinate across industry and productboundaries. One comes more quickly and eco-nomically to one’s goal if one can rely oncolour samples or colour software instead ofhaving to apply a trial coat first of all.

Descriptive codeNCS®© defines 1950 sampled standard coloursin a logically structured colour space over a40-part colour circle, which is based on thefour primary colours of yellow, red, blue andgreen that are considered to be unmixed. The40 hues are defined according to their opticalcolour components on a scale of 100. Y20R isaccordingly a colour with 80 portions visuallyof yellow and 20 portions visually of red. Eachhue is in turn lightened step by step to whiteand darkened to black on a scale of 100. Thus 2030-Y20R contains 20 blackness and 30 chromaticness portions. The remaining50 portions are whiteness portions. Once onehas become a little more familiar with thesystem, one can already form a rough idea ofthe colour from the number. The NCS®© codeis a descriptive code and this distinguishes itfrom other systems.

Tool for colour designHowever, one can make use of the logicallyconsistent structure of the system in colour

design. Colour design intuitively follows rulesof colour harmony. The actually creative actconsists in the controlled infringement of therules, which generates tension and surprise.Colour design works with colour relationshipsand contrasts. The relationships of NCS®©colours are clearly reproducible on the basis oftheir position in the colour space.

Working toolsNCS®© offers the most varied working tools, colour samples in every form and for widelydiffering requirements at the highest, carefullycontrolled quality level. The correct tool forthe design professional is the NCS®© album. Not only that it shows analogously the structure of the colour space, one can as it were move the removable samples through the colour space and following the relationship lines try out the colour harmonies. Here the good colour harmoniesappear as if by themselves.

Colour system and colour design instrument

A colour system is a system of colour

relationships. With our colour collection you

receive a complete colour register, distributed

at equal intervals over the entire spectrum, in

which you can simultaneously read off directly

the degrees of relationship between the

colours and use it for composing harmonious

colour schemes. Colours then harmonize with

one another if they agree in hue, lightness

and saturation. In the RESOPAL® colour

system you will find the colours of the same

or similar hues in the vertical columns, the

colours of the same or similar lightness and

saturation in the horizontal rows.

120 topical, modern colours

The colours are selected according to the

criteria of completeness, topicality and

demand. The collection is made up of:

• six achromatic series with two neutral and

two tinted grey series as well as two beige

series with a total of six fine white shades

• 18 chromatic series with an extensive range

of fresh, modern yellow and profound blue

shades

Globally understandable colour language

All colours are coded with the nearest NCS®©

standard, and a large part of our collection

corresponds exactly with the NCS®© standard.

With the colour coding of the international

NCS®© Natural Color System® you can

communicate worldwide without exchanging

samples. The NCS®© code is a descriptive

code. Those who know the system can imagine

the associated colour solely by reference to

the code. With the NCS®© software you can

display our colours in RGB or in printable

CMYK mode on the computer screen and also

communicate worldwide electronically. With

our RAL and BS (British Standard) key our

colours are also compatible with national

colour registers.

Objective layout

When selecting colours it is important that

one obtains a true impression of the colour.

In surroundings of a different colour, the

simultaneous effect of each colour changes

optically in the direction of the complemen-

tary colour of the surroundings. For instance,

in red surroundings a pure yellow appears to

have a green tinge. In similar surroundings a

colour not only remains true but it is even

made more precise by its surroundings. In the

layout of the RESOPAL® colour system a colour

is defined unambiguously by eight similar

neighbouring colours.

Designing with the RESOPAL® colour system

You are provided with a practical colour design

instrument with the co-ordinated layout of

6 achromatic and 18 chromatic series in

5 lightness and saturation levels. The vertical

hue columns as well as the directly neigh-

bouring colours supply you finely co-ordinated

tone-in-tone harmonies. In the horizontal

lightness levels you find lively cross-sectional

harmonies, from the soft colour harmony up

to the most intensive and powerful colour

relation, the complementary contrast.

Co-ordinated interior

and exterior colours

Most of the colours in RESOPAL® >2013 and

our RESOPLAN® facade collection are identical.

This enables you to co-ordinate interior and

exterior design colours. With 30 modern, fresh

plain colours the RESOPLAN® collection offers

you an architectural colour spectrum that is

equally complete.

PLAIN COLOURSBringing more colour into play

Life is colourful. And full of variety. Colours,

sophisticated and beautiful, clear and pure, invoke

our deepest feelings and trigger expectations. A trip

into the blue is filled with curiosity and uncertainty;

a journey full of surprises.

The passion of love is red, like a rose. The glimmer

of hope seems as green as the field in which our

dreams go wandering. Yellow radiates energy and

power, gives us the light of the sun and wraps us in

pleasant warmth. Colours enchant us and touch our

soul. Boundless beauty. As far as the eye can see.

Plain Colours by Resopal. The magic of variety.

The album of creativityColour design always follows, consciously orunconsciously, the rules of colour harmony. It works with simularities of colour features.Creativity comes about in the controlledinfringement of these rules, which builds uptension and engenders surprise elements. In the NCS®© album, an analog image of the NCS®©colour space, the colours are arranged according

to optical colour features. The relationships ofthe colours become clearly understandable inthis way. Working constantly with the album, tryingout, combining and rejecting trains one’sperception of colour. Each time it is used thefeeling for the structural relationships, thefeeling and the desire for colours grows.Working with the album is also always excitingand inspiring. It makes you creative.

WOODGRAINS AUTHENTICFaces of time

Nature brings forth many wonders. Wood is

one of them. With the vitality of its veining

and structure, its natural expressiveness, its

strong and individual character.

Wood combines strength and harmony,

originality and diversity in a natural way. Its

annual rings recharge our capacity to imagine

time. Veins of life and transformation.

Signs of bygone eras and episodes.

Stories told by nature.

Wood, no doubt the finest point of a design

WOODGRAINS AUTHENTICFaces of time

The designers’ world has gone very “white”, very neutral. Without differentiation, without shades of

individuality, lacking distinctive accents – pure intellectualism. But the design of this world is in

desperate need of discernibility; it strives for distinctiveness, uniqueness. The principle of formal reduction

also applies to the material itself. The effect of wood is purified and concentrated on formal relevance.

Absolute tradition, and yet completely new. A new effect, a new suggestivity. Completely novel applications

become possible. Traditional woods like birch, maple or beech, combined with the homogeneity of teak or

mahogany, hold a special appeal for all who like to use laminate in interior design. A resistant surface and

the impression of wood are united in a symbiosis of functionality and emotional experience. The surfaces

document tradition but also suggest innovation and the modern.

All woodgrains are also

available in EM finish.

WOODGRAINS HORIZONThe discovery of freedom

From time immemorial, freedom and

independence have been regarded

as values and ideals which influence

us to the present day. Conquering

new countries. Discovering new

possibilities. The urge to turn the

world a bit further in order to enable

progress.

The best ideas were always on the

horizon. Where the unexpected

spreads out over the entire length.

Where thoughts become lateral

thinking and conceive really new

ideas. Where curiosity overflows its

banks and humans experience the true

dimension of space and time.

The horizontal perspective – it opens

up and gives us the scope and freedom

to which we aspire. It bestows us with

balance and harmony.

WOODGRAINS HORIZONThe discovery of freedom

Line is a synonym linking natural and artificial design.

Lines are consolidated into architectural and natural structures.

Woodgrains Horizon, originally intended for extensive surfaces

and door elements, offer an abundance of original design impressions

for any creative idea.

Horizontal wood structures impart interesting clarity and refreshing

unambiguity to the individual surface. In the third dimension,

the structure of the horizontal lines in conjunction with the natural

expressivity of different colours and shades of light unfolds an effect

that lends every product originality and authenticity. The overall

atmosphere is reinforced by the balance and the calm impression of

flowing movement in these surface decors.

Woodgrains Horizon transform two-dimensional surfaces into

spatial elements and impart architectural significance. Discernibility

is the essential realisation from the careful application. Surfaces

offer broad scope for differentiation. Horizontal makes the

difference.

WOODGRAINS EXPRESSIVEExpressing special passion

Expressive surfaces impart character to a product and a room

element. A variety of combinations between natural and abstract

images are produced by the interaction with different light.

Delicate contrasts and vigourous structures allow distinctiveness

and uniqueness to be expressed. Wood structures with an original

core, but also containing sapwood, are composed and arranged in

stylish ways in order to combine the advantages of laminate with

the positive impression of the wood structure.

Maple heartwood, beech heartwood and heart apple serve

as the basic trilogy for further possible combinations.

48|49WOODGRAINS EXOTICMagic of sensuality

A dull thud breaks through the morning quiet:

a coconut obeys the pull of gravity and lands

gently on its favourite beach. Another one

follows. And many more. Welcome to the

island of wants and desires. Where palm

trees sway gently in the wind, where fine

white sand lies gently over seashells, and

parrots play in the green foliage. Zebrano

meets Macassar. Coco Bolo caresses Limba.

A rendezvous of the woods entices us into the

jungle of sensuality. The invitation to an

WOODGRAINS EXOTICMagic of sensuality

The desire for out-of-the-ordinary and new experiences is visible in

the sensual theme of Woodgrains Exotic. The hint of faraway places

coordinates with the security of the familiar. Unconventional surfaces

prove to be extremely compatible with customary materials and

constructions. Exotic statement adds value to interior designs and

furnishings. Their look-and-feel and significance are raised to a new

level, and meet with wider acceptance. The value of the surfaces is

greatly enhanced. The surfaces become valuable, just like a trophy.

The exotic is always interesting because it is so different.

Olive, Zebrano and other exotic wood structures become interesting

once again, because they are affordable and possible without

troubling the designer’s conscience about sustainability and

protection of resources. The use of these surface decors is in moral

harmony with intercultural ambitions and basic professional ethics.

STONESUnique structure, created by the course of time

Stories, anecdotes and hopes appear in the impression of stone.

The character of pure stone structure is full of energy.

Stones add a new dimension to design.

Stone structures on large surfaces are particularly effective in both

vertical and horizontal applications; they project energy, power and

the large gesture. The surfaces are striking because of their purity of

formation or homogeneous texture.

The aesthetics of natural forms is particularly well brought out by

the perfection of the surface. The look and feel of stone becomes

feasible for commercial projects, with all the stresses of modern use.

EMOTIONSGrand feelings

Fantasy is one of the sources from

which creative and innovative

ideas are generated. Fantasy

relies on the continual process

of emotional growth and a

heightened experience of the

senses.

Emotional surfaces that inspire

and unleash creativity convey

power of imagination to the

observer and give meaning to

content. More than that:

Emotions is not limited to optical

appearance; the interaction

between surfaces and their

interpretation is a phenomenon

encompassing all the senses.

The surfaces strike a chord,

appear sensitive, meet individual

taste. The general trend towards

individuality and subjective

feeling is reflected in the three-

dimensional power of fantasy.

Essential basic decors are the

indispensable background for

product presentation in the

display culture of today’s

consumer society. Sophisticated

products seek proximity to

sophisticated surfaces.

A floral decor discreetly suggests

closeness to nature; metallic rust

effects document the dimension

of time, enduringness and

sustainability; fantasy decors from

the world of wood impression

interpret scope for design in

conjunction with sense of security

in a completely original way.

Fantastic variations in colour

based on Zebrano inspire and fire

the imaginaton. Merchandising

culture acquires new impetus and

a surprising broadening of the

horizon.

SILVER CRYSTALA hint of cool crystals

The purity of crystals and the perfection of metallic surfaces

merge symbiotically in the polished unison of Silver Crystal.

Its ability to adapt to the environment is phenomenal. Light

and material effects augment each other and form expressive

room elements. With Silver Crystal the atmosphere in a room

is luxuriously enhanced and acquires unexpected stimuli.

The fascination of metallic and mineral gloss lends rooms a

refined look-and-feel, a splendid flourish. Once frozen natural

perfection is revitalised and becomes incredibly vitalising.

Pure inspiration.

The gloss surface shimmering in an infinite variety of shades

is created by metallized fibres distributed evenly through the

overlay, which glitter like crystals. They discreetly allow the

colours of the layers underneath to shine through, creating

an impressive effect of depth.

Due to the random arrangement and orientation of the

overlay’s fibers the Silver Crystal sheets get an individual

character.

WOODEN SPIRITMoments of pure sensuality

People seek to find their

own identities in nature’s

image. Natural and artificial

structures provide a sense

of orientation and security

for those in search.

The reliability as well as

the ever-intriguing different

effect of these structures

determine the special

appeal of Wooden Spirit.

Aesthetic beauty, as even

nature only rarely discloses,

acquires sustainability and

significance by the abstrac-

tion of colour. A natural

gem emerges; unique,

individual and very close

to people’s lives.

The pristine look of nature

Wooden Spirit shows the

original structure of the

trunk of a carefully selected

native tree. With meticulous

attention to detail, a

carpenter processed the tree

trunk further, using a steel

brush to remove the softer

material from the annual

rings produced in summer.

The resulting matrix taken

from the tree trunk,

which we use to press our

Wooden Spirit sheets, bears

a relief that is dominated

by the natural lines of the

wooden fibres and perfectly

reproduces the natural

structure of the wood.

92|93STONE MOUNTAINWonder of natural transformation

The solidity of a slate surface provides the basis for authentically

conveying robustness and resistance. It inspires matching stone

images and lends them a material, sensual appearance. Paired with

plain colours it creates new, abstract materialities.

Slate structures are solid and at the same time supportive.

They are characterized by durability and a perceptible tension.

Encounters with this surface are like a rejuvenating spring for

creativity and sensuality. The sound of these materials is legendary.

HIGH GLOSSHigh gloss seduces

Titanium High Wear

With overlays containing large

quantities of corundum,

pressed with titanium

hardened, mirror polished

steel plates, the new high-

gloss surface texture of

Resopal meets the

requirements of

abrasion class AC5.

The new Resopal surface

retains its gloss despite

extreme stresses on the floor.

Not only is it very scuff and

abraison resistant, even when

subjected to extreme chair

castor pressure, it also

features the qualities that

have always distinguished

RESOPAL®: it is impact,

scratch and shock resistant,

stain resistant and resistant to

chemicals to a large extent,

waterproof and light-fast and

also – still an important

quality for flooring – intensive

to cigarette burns.

The corundum in the overlay

produces a patina effect which

thereby adds an elegant

impression to the material –

especially to intensive colours.

The surfaces (HW: high-gloss,

abrasion resistant/ TH: high-

gloss, ultra-abrasion resistant)

which provides the background

for valuable products just as

authentically as it serves to

enhance theme elements is

very accommodating to efforts

to create value and define

added value.

High Gloss proves compatible

with all conventional forms of

presentation in today’s display

culture; with these surface

textures the tools for creating

scenarios are effective,

regulate different levels of

stylishness and correlate with

the special lighting situation.

High Gloss is the platform

surface for product ranges

and their messages. Overall

concepts gain perfection and

acceptance from the three-

dimensional effect of these

surfaces. The gloss level of the

surfaces is inherently linked

to the specific tone of the

products.

The surfaces reflect an

individual symphony of the

senses for every spectator and

user. This imparts importance

as well as value to the

architectural and design

element.

Core paperCore paper

Core paper

Core paper

Decor paper

Overlay

THE ORIGINAL RESOPAL® SHEETEverything’s possible.

A RESOPAL® board consists of several paper

lengths impregnated with resin and pressed

under heat and high pressure between

embossing steel plates, to become a

homogeneous board. The core papers give

it the resilience necessary for further

processing. The decor paper soaked with

melamine resin, one of the hardest resins,

and the transparent overlay form an

indestructible surface and facilitate that

inexhaustible design versatility which at the

same time is unique to this product. The

construction of the board can be varied

practically without limit and adapted to the

relevant requirements.

Everything’s possible.

Decor. The decor paper as a rule is a dyed or

printed paper which can carry any colour and

any motif. But textiles, wood veneers, metal

foils, etc. can be embedded just as well.

They remain protected permanently by the

overlay.

Surface. Textures and degrees of gloss

endowing the relevant pattern with the right

feel can be pressed onto the surface. Since

they are the mirror image of the press plate,

all decors in all surfaces from high-gloss to

super matt and smooth to porous or stony

are possible. The reverse is roughened for

adhesion to all sorts of substrates.

Thickness. The thickness of the board is

varied by the core. The standard thickness

for coating substrates is 0.8 mm. But self-

supporting, solid boards up to several

centimeters thick and provided on both sides

with the same decor and the same structure

or laminated in several colours can be

produced according to the same principle.

Format. The board dimensions are optimized

to reduce waste for the relevant requirements

of interior design, furniture production and

facade design such as for example doors,

cupboards or worktops. The most customary

interior design format measures 3050 x

1320 mm.

Quality. RESOPAL® is a duroplastic product

that does not change further in its material

character. Once pressed the boards can

indeed still be bent, but no longer moulded

(standard). However, the resins can be

modified for further industrial processing so

that the board can be formed after partial

heating (postforming). Corners with a

minimum radius of only 1.5 mm are feasible

with the modern postforming technology.

Properties. RESOPAL® is among other things

resistant to impact, scratching and abrasion,

it is resistant to heat and light, insensitive

to spots, easy to clean and to disinfect,

resistant to water, steam, solvents and

largely to chemicals. RESOPAL® is fire

inhibiting and can be finished as flame

retardant, it insulates electrically and

functions as barrier against diffusion from

the substrate.

Processing. RESOPAL® can be processed as

easily as wood. On substrates a backing

laminate on the reverse prevents the

structure distorting with time.

Environmental compatibility.

Since RESOPAL® consists of paper and

virtually natural resins, its disposal does

not place a burden on the environment.

On the contrary: Its longevity is active

environmental protection.

INTERPRETATIONS OF GLASSRAUKANTEX visions open up new perspectives

NEW DIMENSIONS IN CREATIVE SURFACE DESIGNRAUKANTEX impressions – embossing textures and lacquer effects

Multi-faceted, vivid and as diverse as natureitself, but also futuristic, modern and extrava-gant – all this describes RAUKANTEX impressions.Incisive textures that create an amazing true-to-nature feel, combined with a wide variety ofdecors and innovative lacquer effects, provide anew setting for edgings and make a simple edgeband into an all-round sensory highlight.

Diversity knows no boundariesRAUKANTEX impressions bring nature to life in four different types of embossing texture –“wood”, “stone”, “nature” and “creative” –and offer maximum scope for creative edgingsolutions. The collection of the polymer specialist is rounded off by the innovative lacquer effects known as “finish” which create amicrofine or smooth matt appearance and feel.

High-grade woodsFrom finely streaked grains to striking barkembossings – the “wood” line impressivelymimics the look of real wood. The filigree groo-ved texture of “cordia” features a slightly raisedwood grain and subtle fluting, while “dahoma”highlights the edging with wide, coarse lines. The distinctive large-pored texture of “poga”gives the edgeband an incomparable feel andmakes the surface appear almost jagged.

Rough eleganceThe expressive structures of “stone” guaranteecool extravagance: “somersby” has a coarse,open-pored texture that imitates the surfaceof genuine sandstone, while the fine-grained,sleek finish of “granite” re-creates the surfacequality of natural granite. “pebble” reflectsthe vivid and expressive character of roundedstones in a stream and lends a unique lookand feel to the edging.

NaturalWith “nature” amazingly realistic embossingsmake nature come to life – the diversity ofvariants is almost limitless. Surfaces with theappearance of elegant leather or filigree seaweed have an unobtrusive yet extravagantcharm. The unusual “honeycomb” embossingtexture combined with trendy decors allowsinnovative highlights.

Fantasy design“creative” features imaginative structureswhich effectively put the edgeband in theforeground. With futuristic “wave” and “stripe”embossings even the most unusual designrequests can be implemented – the scope fororiginal creations is practically endless.

As one of the oldest materials known to man, glass has always played a key role not only inarchitecture and design, but also in everydaylife. 120|121DOORSThe power of curiosity

Curiosity opens doors. It takes us into

unfamiliar rooms and offers us new vistas

and experiences. Curiosity is the doorway

to the world and to people.

It wakes us up and stimulates our will to

disclose secrets and discover what seems

to be under lock and key and hidden

from sight. Curiosity breaks through walls

and appears like a bright light at the end

of a corridor. It is an invitation to step

through and view new things. Curious?

DOORSMetals, Emotions and Silver Crystal

Compatibility of architectural elements –

re-interpretation of the factor “door”

DOORS are people’s essential companions in space; they are synonymous with

movement and with the basic assurance of spatial experience.

Whether they have longitudinal stripes, elegant horizontal stripes or a metallic

look, the surfaces of DOORS not only look convincing on the architectural element

“door”, they also bring its special significance into focus. DOORS give the structural

element “door” architectural grace and interpret the term “decor” in a new,

authentic and contemporary way in the 21st century.

Whether expressive or muted – DOORS mutate into an additive and compatible

element in concert with the other architectural trades for the wall claddings,

the floorings and the world of door fittings.

DECOPA INDUSTRIES GMBHProducts and solutions for the furniture industry

The decopagmbh has been concerned foralmost 20 years with “products and solutionsall around the furniture edge”.

decopaindustriesThe decopaindustries division comprises allproduction-specific processes within the decopagmbh. With experience in furniture edge productiongrowing constantly since 1983, we alwaysendeavour to improve product quality and production processes.

productionWe produce the following product groups onschedule on modern production plant and withthe greatest care:

paper edgessingle layer and doubled edgesThe decopa single layer edges and decopadoubled edges are in each case single-layer or two-layer (doubled edge: foil on reversepaper) melamine resin edges.

Both decopa single-layer edges and decopa doubled edges have a decor paperimpregnated and lacquered with melamineresin as basis. They are insensitive to all customary household cleaners and are characterized by high resistance to UV rays.

Both variable structuring of the surfaceby mechanical embossing as well as variablecoating of the reverse are possible.

plastic edgesABS edgesdecopaABS edges (ABS = acryl-nitril-butadienstyrol) are high-quality, impactproof, mechanically and thermally resistant thermoplastic edges.

Thanks to their outstanding application andprocessing properties, their area of applicationis practically unlimited. decopaABS edges areused both in high-quality furniture making(office, kitchen and bathroom furniture) andin the construction area.

Thanks to their high elasticity propertiesdecopaABS edges can be used for straight lineprocessing just as well as for curved formsindependently of inside and outside radius.

softforming foilsMelamine resin impregnated and lacquereddecor papers for coating all customary woodenmaterials.

mortice edgesHigh-quality and highly flexible melamineresin edges with single or two-layer structurefor the door industry.

despatchAs carefully as we produce our products, assafely are they packed and made ready fortransport.

Since our quality claim does not end at ourgoods despatch, we naturally also undertakethe complete organization of transport.

Our goal is in addition to offer our customers a self-contained logistics concept.A large number of edges and further articlesfor the furniture industry are kept in stock inour storage system that we have developed ourselves. RESOPLAN®The architectural panel

RESOPLAN® is a solid, self-supporting, impact and fractureproof RESOPAL® sheet with a light fast and weatherproof finished surface foruse externally. It is free of corrosion and safe against frost, hail androtting. It secures and maintains not only the value of the building, but it is extremely long lived itself and keeps its value. Soap or deter-gents are sufficient for cleaning the surface, graffiti can be removedwith the special cleaner MBE Antigrafiti Spray (MBE GmbH, Menden).

RESOPLAN® is the large-format RESOPAL® sheet for facades, balconiesand other external paneling from the residential house to the largeindustrial object. RESOPLAN® allows widely differing joint formations, pillar surrounds, plinth facings, etc. Formed elements are also possible.RESOPLAN® can be processed simply like a wooden material and isjust as easy to install. It can be nailed, riveted, screwed, doweled orglued, anchored visibly or concealed on wooden or metallic substructu-res and suspended in front of a wall as back-ventilated facade. RESOPLAN® is environmentally compatible.

The RESOPLAN® collection

With 30 plain colours the RESOPLAN® collection

offers you a complete range of architectural colours.

It therefore includes the light colours for surface

facings as well as the strong colours for physical

interpretation of the architecture.

With the co-ordinated layout of achromatic and

chromatic series in 3 lightness stages you are

provided with a colour design instrument at the

same time. The tonal value is colour-coordinated

upon the scenic and municipal surroundings.

They range from neutral and nature-orientated

colours to expressive strong colours.

The large overlapping with the colours of our

RESOPAL® >2013 collection also allows you to

match the internal and external areas with one

another in colour.

Architecture can also look quite different

The 11 RESOPLAN® wood colours with expressive

graining for medium viewing distances enlarge your

material range and your possibilities considerably.

RESOPLAN® wood sets unusual accents and yet is

integrated into the natural material environment.

As a technical product it is significantly more

calculable than its natural model.

Everywhere, where a noble and precious impression

schould be communicated, the three Silver Crystal

decors of the RESOPLAN® range are predestinated as

they captivate with their fascinating play with the

light.

A further design instrument is available to you

extending beyond the collection: Digital in

RESOPLAN® and Motiv in RESOPLAN®. With this

you can integrate CI elements such as company

logo including pictures and text or artistic motifs

durably into the facade (cf. Digital in RESOPAL®,

p. 150–151).

X-LINE is a building panel for balconies and architectural details. Likethe RESOPLAN® facade panel it is a solid, self-supporting RESOPAL®sheet with the same outstanding properties. But the 14 current lightbuilding colours with highly light fast pigments manage without anyadditional UV protection. Thus the full sturdiness of the melamine sur-face for especially highly stressed details is retained. X-LINE is prede-stinated for balcony, banister and dormer window panels, roof under-view boarding, verge and end boards. X-LINE is easy to care, has apermanently good appearance and it is inexpensive.

WILSONART® SOLID SURFACEUnbelievable deepness

The Solid Surface plastic no longerhas the rigid hardness fit to burstof a stone. Its grainy and crystalli-ne particles shine as if embeddedin wax. A prickling colorfulnesswith a discreet, wax smooth feel.Stone that feels unusually silkyand warm to the touch. Profoundlytransparently and porelesslysmooth on the surface.

Wilsonart® Solid Surface has manysensual dimensions. This makes itso valuable and demanding. Seentechnically Wilsonart® SolidSurface is a solid, fully coloured, acrylic bonded material with mine-ral filler. A material with outstan-ding properties in use and in pro-cessing. Resistant to the chemicalscustomary in the household andthus insensitive to spots, poreless-ly smooth and therefore hygienic, suitable for foods and easy to carefor. Waterproof and water-repellanton one side and heat resistant onthe other.

As a thermoplastic Wilsonart®Solid Surface can be formed three-dimensionally under the action ofheat. The material in the form ofsheets can be processed similarlyto wooden materials and bondedwithout joints and watertight withan acrylic adhesive of the samematerial. In this way damage canbe repaired without a trace. Thesurface can be polished as desiredfrom matt to high gloss. If highlystressed it can thus be renewedquite simply. This makes it extre-mely long-living. The Wilsonart®Solid Surface thermoplastic is anideal supplement to the duropla-stic RESOPAL®.

Wilsonart® Solid Surface is anideal material for the kitchen, bathroom and the esthetically aswell as technically high-qualityinterior design, for counters, barsand tables, for laboratory and hospital – wherever elegant orfunctionally demanding surfacesare required.

RESOPAL® DIRECTRESOPAL® it yourself

Ever since the patent was applied for, over

75 years ago, RESOPAL® has stood for both

assured value and stunning, trendy designs.

RESOPAL® is one of the most practical

surfacing materials available. It is impact

resistant, scratch and abrasion resistant, heat

and light resistant, water and solvent resistant

and largely resistant against chemicals. Its

non-porous surface is also resistant against

stains, is easy to clean and disinfect. However

what makes RESOPAL® material a success is

the ease with which it can be worked and

its inherent ability to visually transform.

RESOPAL® can be processed as easily as

standard wood materials, using typical wood

processing machines, converting any substrate

into a high quality board.

RESOPAL® Direct,

the self-adhesive RESOPAL®

With RESOPAL® Direct you can apply RESOPAL®

even more simply than before. Now you can

do away with veneer presses and glue-lines,

switch to working directly on site, and

attempt those awkward curved shapes.

In fact, you can do it all yourself. Using the

permanently elastic adhesive film applied to

the back, RESOPAL® Direct works like any

standard adhesive foil. Simply pull off the

protective film on the reverse, place the sheet

in position and apply pressure. The adhesive

film reaches its full adhesive strength after

as little as 24 hours.

Areas of application

RESOPAL® Direct is perfect for most interior

surfacing areas in a building. Using the self-

adhesive RESOPAL® you can renovate door and

furniture surfaces directly on site. It can even

be used to redesign structures like exhibition

stands in next to no time.

RESOPAL® it yourself!

1. Clean, dedust and degrease existing

surfaces. Only glue onto smooth, not

drawing and hard surfaces, such as metals,

plastics, varnishes, smooth (primed) wood

substrates, glass, stone and ceramics.

Remove loose particles or chalking surfaces,

prime uncoated or inhomogeneous surfaces.

The adhesive strength is only as good as

the surface strength of the substrate.

Warning: Plastic materials containing

softeners may alter the adhesive layer and

impair the adhesive strength.

2. Cut RESOPAL® Direct to size, using a saw

and adding at least 10 mm in length and

width to the area to be laminated.

3. Pull off the silicon paper.

4. Place RESOPAL® Direct on the surface to

be covered and use a trade standard manual

roller to press it on, moving from the

centre outwards toward the edges.

5. Excess lengths are to be cut flush using a

surface milling cutter, or to be trimmed

using a file.

RESOPAL® Direct must not be rolled for

transport and should be used within one year.

Detailed fitting instructions available on

request.

Delivery program

For RESOPAL® Direct the full diversity of the

RESOPAL® Collections are at your disposal.

RESOPAL® Direct does not differ in any way

from the ORIGINAL RESOPAL® sheet other

than that it is coated on the back with a

permanently elastic adhesive film. It features

all the high quality technical and aesthetic

properties for which RESOPAL® has always

been held in such high esteem.

RESOPAL® Direct is a laminated sheet

material according to EN 438.

148|149RESOPAL® MEETS LEDIncredible colour and dimension effects

School in Mühldorf/Inn, Architect: R.A.Köhler, BDA, Gauting

We have activated our malachite design 7270 digitally in colour so that you can fully exhaust

the possibilities of the LED technique with it. When the colourful, additively mixed LED light

meets the body colours of the RESOPAL® surface, it resolves the subtractively mixed body colours

into their components and dissolves them optically from the surface. One colour shines forwards,

others appear to retreat. The colours appear materially, the surface structure is dissolved.

If shadows fall between, the result is final dissolution. RESOPAL® meets LED also creates

these incredible colour and dimension effects on many other Resopal-Designs

RESOPAL® + spectral – a new colour science

The following series shows the transformation of the malachite surface in changing LED light at

our annual architect event, denk.werkstatt. With the freely controllable colour temperatures

of the LEDs, completely new lighting worlds can be created not only for discos, music shops or

television studios, but also for everyday use in the office, at home, in the kitchen or bathroom.Digital print

RESOPAL® consists of several layers of paper

impregnated with resin and pressed together

under high heat and high pressure to form a

homogeneous sheet. RESOPAL® is impact

resistant, easy to care, scratch resistant,

non-porous and therefore absolutely hygienic

and safe to use with food, heat resistant,

waterproof, light-fast and resistant to most

chemicals.

Apart from the designs of our basic RESOPAL®

>2013 collection or the colour and decor

layers developed together with you, we can

fabricate your customized RESOPAL® for inte-

rior applications or facades. Your design ideas

can be implemented using modern techniques

or in the traditional way – drawings and

paintings, interlay techniques, screen and

digital printing.

Each sheet a unique surface

Drawings and paintings on our special paper

in UV colours are durably protected in

RESOPAL® so they can even be used as facade

panels. Youngsters and children can, for

example, create designs for their schools

and kindergartens with this technique.

The glass-clear melamine resin layer of the

overlay offers permanent protection of the

original against external influences. For use

on the façade it is provided with a special UV

weather protection.

Instead of the décor layers described above,

many other materials can be pressed in

RESOPAL®: natural fibres such as linen and

untreated cotton, collages and similar

materials.

Further design options are obtained by

printing the reverse side of the overlay

(underprint). Our standard decors or veneers

can then be additionally provided with an

abrasion-resistant overprint.

Screen and digital printing

Screen and digital printing bring flexibility

und inexhaustible diversity into interior,

furniture and facade design.

Send us your high-resolution, printable data

and we will print them on a special paper with

light-fast and heat-resistant ink and press

them in RESOPAL®.

Interlay techniques

Specially developed interlay techniques enable

us to seamlessly combine decors from our

basic RESOPAL® >2013 collection in one

sheet. With the aid of templates we fabricate

interlays according to your ideas.

For Motiv in RESOPAL® the following sheet and

panel qualities are available:

1.0 mm-RESOPAL®-HPL

Sheet sanded on the reverse side for gluing

onto substrates like chipboard or MDF boards.

On request, we can supply the 1 mm backing

154|155RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE®The hygienically active surface

RESOPAL2Potentiated materiality.

We have succeeded in creating a further

increase in materiality with RESOPAL2.

We combine materials which potentiate

one another mutually in their effect in

one surface.

We produce the classical material mix as semi-

finished product. Aesthetically seen the

natural living, warm wood gains further in

liveliness and warmth in the mix, in the con-

trast, indeed in the confrontation with its

opposite number, the perfectly smoothed, cool

metal and this in reverse gains in hardness

and coolness. Both materials complement one

another mutually and increase one another in

their sensual appearance. RESOPAL2 is mate-

riality which potentiates itself mutually.

Connection without joints and seams.

Technically RESOPAL2 is based on a process

which facilitates for the first time the

connection without seams and joints

of two materials. A printed material image

(RESOPAL®) such as wood is pressed simul-

taneously with a real metal foil (Metal on

RESOPAL®). With the material mix without

joints you avoid jointing together or laying

above one another with all the problems

which always accompany a joint.

HPL EN 438

The new door design.

RESOPAL2 is suitable especially for coating

doors. It not only increases their value

optically and sensually, but endows them

with high value and solidity. Practically

any configuration is feasible.

We produce RESOPAL2 entirely according

to your wishes.

Potentiated materiality not only due to the

confrontation of warm wood and cool metal,

but also in the combination of a matt, soft

colour with shining brushed aluminium.

RESOPAL® the hygienic surface

Since the patent was applied for 75 years ago, RESOPAL® has stood for maximum utility value. RESOPAL® is not only

practical, not only resistant to impact, scratches, wear, heat, light, water, solvents and to a very large extent chemicals.

Its non-porous surface is also stain-resistant and easy to clean and disinfect. Therefore right from the start RESOPAL®

was always used everywhere where hygiene was required.

RESOPAL®+Hipercare® –

the hygienically active surface

With RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE® (High Performance

Care) we now offer additionally active hygienic

care for particularly hygienically sensitive areas

where the bacteriological balance is at risk.

Micro-organisms support the development of

the human immune system but in extreme

situations they can also run out of control.

This is a risk found above all in hospitals where

pathogenic germs may occur at an increased

level, in foodstuffs that go bad very quickly,

in humid and wet areas that provide an ideal

breeding ground. However, micro-organisms are

also undesirable where people are treated and

surgery is performed, in analytical and

research laboratories. In these cases,

RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE® prevents the

establishment and growth of micro-organisms

on the surface.

RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE® –

is tested by expert opinion

Prof. Dr. Werner, specialist for hygiene and

microbiology at the centre for hygiene and

medical safety in Bischofshofen, Austria,

certifies that RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE®

reduces significantly the colony count even

of the dreaded, multi-resistant staphylococcus

aureus bacterium (MRSA). Also the english

testing institute Law Laboratories Ltd.

certified a bacterial reduction on the surface

with a min. of 99.9 %.

Dr. Ralf Derra from the ISEGA Forschungs-

und Untersuchungsgesellschaft mbH,

Aschaffenburg, confirms that RESOPAL®

+HIPERCARE® is suitable for foodstuffs and is

toxicologically harmless. We will be pleased to

send you the expert opinions on request.

Areas of application

• hospitals, doctors surgeries, chemist shops,

laboratories

• Large kitchens, restaurant kitchens, butcher

shops, bakeries, food shops

• Sanitary facilities, bathrooms, outdoor and

indoor swimming pools, saunas, toilets

• Counters, reception and consultation areas

RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE®

works anti-microbially

The active agents of HIPERCARE® are dissolved

in the melamine resin used to saturate the

decorative Resopal layer and release their

effectiveness in the event of any direct con-

tact with the surface. In this way HIPERCARE®

has been proven to prevent the establishment

and growth of microorganisms.

As an integral component part of the surface,

the active agents of HIPERCARE® continue

to be effective without any loss across the

entire lifecycle of the product even with

high usage. These active agents are free of

chloro-organic substances and do not have

any toxic side effects. RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE®

is suitable for use with foodstuffs and safe to

use through to the point of disposal. It is

clean, hygienic and safe. Due to the optimized

HIPERCARE® formulation, the components of

which increase each other’s effectiveness

synergetically, the surface is permanently

effective even against bacteria strains with

antibiotic resistance such as the dreaded

MRSA. Depending on the actual bacteria

strain, the effectiveness can be proven within

just a few hours. Although this hygienic

effectiveness still requires you to clean the

surface, it reduces the cleaning intervals and

the quantity of disinfectants needing to be

used.

RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE® ist Schichtstoff

gemäß EN 438

The complete RESOPAL® collection (except

for Metal on RESOPAL® ) is available for

RESOPAL®+HIPERCARE®.

A HIPERCARE® panel does not differ from the

RESOPAL® panel. The active agents have no

influence on the high quality technical proper-

ties nor on the aesthetic characteristic such as

colour, texture or degree of gloss.

RESOPAL® COCOONNatural warmth

Healthy Heating

with radiant heat

A biologically healthy heating

system provides warmth according

to the principle of sunshine.

Infrared radiation is transformed

into heating energy only on solid

bodies. The greatest part of the

heat is therefore not given off to

the air, but directly to the walls

or objects in the room. The heat

is radiated from one solid body to

the next without heating up the

ambient air between the bodies

and thus moving it unnecessarily.

The room surfaces receiving the

radiation absorb heat and radiate

it back into the room.

The tiled stove owes its legendary

reputation to this principle, by

ensuring a high radiant heat

temperature with a surprisingly

low air temperature at the same

time. The benefits are comfort

heat without draught. The air is

comfortably dry, cool, dust and

germfree for breathing. Damp wall

dry out, so that mould does not

have a chance to grow.

Composition of

RESOPAL® Cocoon

A heating element and a non-

combustible foamed glass panel

are sandwiched between two

RESOPAL® sheets to create a heat

transfer medium. Installation is

straightforward, on the wall or

ceiling or freestanding in a room,

and once connected to the house

electrical system and conveniently

controlled via a room, wireless or

cable thermostat, the heating

element – a foamed glass panel

treated with an electrically

conductive lacquer – heats up in

a matter of seconds.

Heater and interior

design element

Whereas conventional convection

type heaters are merely necessary

pieces of equipment for heating,

RESOPAL® Cocoon is an aestheti-

cally sophisticated element of the

interior design.

The heating element can be inte-

grated and used practically

everywhere, in private homes or

in commercial areas, as a seating,

as a food or plate warmer. The

heating element is flexible as

regards installation, making it

quick to assemble, install and

dismantle when moving house,

renovating or doing conversion

work. Its mode of operation

allows plenty of freedom for

interior design and furnishing

and, last but not least, the

RESOPAL® surface offers unlimited

aesthetic diversity as well as ease

of cleaning. Whereas the heaters

used with conventional con-

vection heating come under the

heading of “necessary evil”,

RESOPAL® Cocoon is moving away

from the essential heater towards

an attractive and high-quality

design element in its own right.

Low energy, low costs

The rapid, direct heating and

enormous storage capacity in

solid material in the case of

radiant heating make for an

energy saving of up to 20 per

cent compared with other heating

systems. As the room temperature

can be 2-4°C less you will still

have a saving on the energy use.

Whereas heat energy stored in

the room air is lost due to venti-

lation, energy losses are virtually

excluded with radiant heating.

The radiant heat remains in the

walls of the room and in the

furniture and fittings in the room.

There is no need for a boiler, or a

fuel tank, or complicated piping

systems.

Art on Cocoon:Atelier Wasse, Markus Wasse, Wiesbaden

Thanks to modern VECTOGRAMM®

milling technology highly complex

images can be worked through the

coloured overlay into the dark

RESOPAL® core in a digitally

controlled process. Grooves are

milled in the surface analogously

to the graphical introduction of

lightness graduations in modulated

line grids.

It is the unresolved opposite of a

secretly unsharply remaining

picture in an absolutely technically

precise structure, which keeps the

viewer enthralled. In the

VECTOGRAMM® additional

dimensions come into the picture

with the depth of the line,

namely material and significance,

but above all movement. The

perception changes according to the

direction of incidence of the light.

If one uses boards without a

surface layer differentiated in

colour, the picture results solely

from the play of light and shadow

as in a relief. Even vexier images

can be generated with a special

milling technique, showing different

motifs when viewed from different

sides. Wherever they are used,

whether as an art object on the wall

or as CI element including text on

the facade, moving images attract

attention everywhere. By the way,

they also act as unobtrusive sound

absorbers due to their depth

structures. The way sound is

reflected can even be controlled

with corresponding processing.

Sheet materials with RESOPAL®

surface layer and solid RESOPAL®

sheets, but also Wilsonart® Solid

Surface sheets are suitable for

vectograms.

The maximum sheet size

that can be processed is

5000 x 1900 mm.

All digitizable motifs

are suitable as artwork.

We would be pleased to make

further information or samples

available to you.

RESOPAL® MASSIVThe strong material

VECTOGRAMM® vexier image in the doubleline milling technique

VECTOGRAMM® IN RESOPAL®The dynamic surface

RESOPAL® Massiv is a self-suppor-

ting, solid RESOPAL® sheet. It has

in principle the same structure

and the same unsurpassed proper-

ties as the 0.8 mm sheet. The

number of phenolic resin impreg-

nated core papers has been

increased for RESOPAL® Massiv.

The sheet can thus be built

up to a thickness of 42 mm,

which results in incomparably

high strength and sturdiness.

As self-supporting, non-distorting

sheet it is provided on both sides

with the same surface decor.

Thinner sheets in the range of

2 and 3 mm can also be decorated

on one side and roughened

on the reverse for coating

substrates. As freely supporting,

solid sheet it no longer requires

any additional edge protection.

Thanks to the use of correspon-

ding core papers, the solid edge

is neutrally black. A striped

edge is created by inlaying

coloured papers (called Color in

RESOPAL®), which makes for an

even thinner and more elegant

effect.

Areas of application

The large-format and self-suppor-

ting RESOPAL® Massiv sheet redu-

ces constructional joins and the

expense of substructures.

166|167ORIGINAL RESOFLOOR® – TITANIUM DREAMThe new high standard for flooring

Extremely robust with an elegant high-gloss

finish – our RESOFLOOR® flooring combines

both of these features in unparalleled fashion.

While RESOPAL® has long been synonymous

with one of the hardest, most robust and

lowest-maintenance surface coverings, the

surface of the Titanium High Wear flooring is

the result of yet another quantum leap in

technology.

Corundum, the second hardest mineral after

diamonds, was integrated into overlays back

in the 1990s to create an abrasion-resistant

surface. However, in order to manufacture

extremely abrasion-resistant high-gloss

surfaces, it was necessary to increase the

corundum content and embed the particles

directly in the surface. This was previously

not possible due to the limited hardness of

conventional press plates.

The technology developed and patented by

Wilsonart for Titanium-coated press plates,

which is unique worldwide, now permits us to

manufacture extremely stress-resistant

high-gloss surfaces of abrasion class AC 5 –

Titanium High Wear.

RESOFLOOR® consists of a approx. 9 mm high-

density fibreboard (HDF) with a 1 mm thick

Titanium High Wear surface which imparts

ultimate brilliance to the flooring and at the

same time is capable of withstanding extreme

stresses – even in commercial applications

(stress class 33). RESOFLOOR® is extremely

resistant to wear and abrasion, inherently sta-

ble, resistant to shock, scratches and impacts

(IC 3), resistant to stains, glowing cigarettes

and wear due to chair castor pressure as well

as extremely light-fast. Over 6,000 revolutions

with coarse sandpaper left no mark on

Titanium High Wear in a Taber test.

RESOFLOOR® comes equipped with a highly

durable click system, which guarantees rapid

and easy installation and facilitates multiple

re-use of the flooring.

TECHNOSTEP® WORKING/MATERIAL PLATFORMSConforming to ESD requirements

The TECHNOSTEP® working/material platform is a joint production of

HILTI, Knauf Integral, WRK GmbH and Resopal.

Thanks to the combination of materials and unique construction it

meets the special demands on

production lines in the automobile industry.

The working platform consists of a flexible, modular metal substructure

and a non-combustible Knauf Integral board (A1 according to

EN 13501-1) sandwiched between RESOPAL®.

The special 0.8 mm thick, extremely abrasion-resistant RESOPAL®

surfacing satisfies all requirements regarding ESD (electrostatic

discharge in accordance with DIN EN 61340-4-1; DIN EN 61340-5-1;

DIN EN 61340-4-5).

Moreover, it features the outstanding qualities that have always

distinguished RESOPAL®. It is impact, scratch and shock resistant,

resistant to stains and to most chemicals, waterproof and light-fast.

The entire TECHNOSTEP® working/material platform system has a high

static load capacity and can be quickly and economically modified

during the production process to fulfill all necessary and individual

requirements.

Practically all of the designs from the basic RESOPAL® >2013 collection

CERACLIC® ORIGINALThe New Flooring Generation

ceraclic® original is a patented

flooring element from Witex.

It consists of an extremely high-

density A1 fibre-reinforced plaster

core board (HGF) and a 0.8 mm

Resopal surface offering high

abrasion and impact resistant

qualities.

The revolutionary product system

unites the positive properties of

stone with the efficiency of a

modern engineered material. The

Resopal surface appears wholly as

stone, while the highly compacted

fibre-reinforced plaster core board

made by Knauf Integral (fire-

retardant class A1 to EN 13501-1)

endows the product with the

massiveness and density of stone.

The combination of materials

provides a warm homely feel to

the feet. In contrast to natural

stone, the waterproof ceraclic joint

system by Witex enables a highly

efficient and flexible floating

installation. The flooring can be

cut and laid using conventional

carpentry tools and can be taken

up again at any time (“style”

RESOPAL®-A2coustic board offersenhanced tonal experience. Itabsorbs noise, improves audibilityand at the same time ensures apleasant sound, not too muffled, not too shrill, but clear andpowerful. RESOPAL®-A2cousticoptimizes the room acoustics.

But RESOPAL®-A2coustic is notonly characterized technically byoutstanding sound absorption of70% in the frequency mean.Nearly the entire colour andmaterial variety of our Basic collection RESOPAL® >2013 withmore than 200 trend colours is available. This makes RESOPAL®-A2coustic a universal room designelement.

Finally it is not so much thewhite ceiling which absorbs thesound. Due to it’s increasingresponsibility for thermal tasks, other room elements, which atthe same time have to satisfy thehighest design demands, musttake its place as sound absorber.

Microperforation without edgingpreserves the material image ofthe RESOPAL® surface. It acts like a softener whichendows only the appropriate optical appearance to its acousticdamping function. The per-foration is no longer perceptiblefrom an average distance.

RESOPAL®-A2coustic owes itsgood sound to its substrate, anexpanded glass recycling granula-te, pressed into form with inor-ganic binders, into the fine porestructure of which the soundloses itself several times.Expanded glass makes the boardextremely light at the same timeand non-combustible (buildingmaterial class A2) as well ashighly dimensionally stable. Inaddition there are all those pro-perties in use of the highly resi-

stant RESOPAL® surface that youhave always appreciated. The perforated board is just as easyto maintain. You simply removedirt in the perforations with avacuum cleaner.

Areas of application. The named advantages predesti-nate RESOPAL®-A2coustic for wallpanels, complete wall shells, par-titions, cabinets and cabinetwalls, room dividers and acousticsails in noise-sensitive surroun-ding such as offices, schools andhospitals or in large halls forsports (not in the rebound area)and culture, where a good tone isimportant. Apart from its varietyof decors, RESOPAL®-A2cousticwith the halved module format of1.25 x 1.25 m offers for the cei-ling a significantly more generoussolution than conventional rasterceilings. However, we recommendRESOPAL® Massiv for impactwalls.

Processing.Despite its glass core RESOPAL®-A2coustic is just as easy as wooden materials to process.According to experience made sofar, all customary edging systemscan be applied or industrially processed.

Installation and assembly. We would be pleased to adviseyou on the installation of theboard and to name specialists to do the work. We recommendopen, decoratively used screws, profile frames or similar for fastening.

RESOPAL® COMPONENTSThe reliable solution

Some substrate varieties

RESOPAL® is surface. It finishes the substrate.

Classical substrates are wooden materials such

as chipboards (RESOPAL® Span Excellent), MDF

and HDF boards, plywood or veneer boards,

Multiplex, etc. in conventional, waterproof or

flame retardant qualities. In addition there are

mineral substrates (class A2 according to

DIN 4102) such as gypsum fiber and calcium

silicate boards, foam plastic boards made of

polyurethane or polystyrene and lightweight

substrates like the cardboard and aluminum

honeycomb for modern sandwich elements.

RESOPAL® and Wilsonart® surfaces can be

applied to all these substrates. They are

bonded together by using adhesives. This in

turn creates simple to process elements which

can be made up to any requirements e.g. with

open edge, edged or seamlessly postformed.

Here the postforming technique offers an

unlimited number of variations of edge forms

and prefabricated elements.

RESOPAL® components are products developed

with and for our customers. We have a wide-

spread network of partner companies for sol-

ving special requirements on the material pro-

perties, edging and further processing.

Describe your ideas to us and we will help

you to put them into practice.

EVERYTHING FOR YOUR BOARDOstermann starts where the board ends

Real wood veneer, melamine resin, duroplastic or metal – Ostermann

has long been passionate about furniture edgebands with all their

functional and decorative aspects for giving boards the professional

edge. Almost 1,000 colours and decors with their different charac-

teristics provide an abundant range of over 8,000 variants. Whether

you want the board and edgeband to merge into a seamless look or

whether the intention is to create effective harmony using contrasts,

Ostermann has a matching edgeband for every board.

Resopal and Ostermann – two names that go well together

Resopal surfaces with their innovative colours, decors and textures

have been so trend-setting over the past years that Ostermann has

decided to widen its range to include matching ABS edgebands for the

entire standard format collection and for the worktop collection >2013.

For Ostermann, this means that we do not only offer the matching

edgebands, but also keep them permanently in stock. As you would

expect from Ostermann, all of these edgebands are already available

from a length of 1 metre for customers. Of course, Ostermann can

also ship samples of the edgeband collection.

All-round solutions from Ostermann

As we at Ostermann believe in delivering all-round solutions, we also

offer a wide assortment of glues and adhesives as well as handling and

processing tools, in addition to edgebands. We also sell a wide range of

articles and cleaners for achieving the perfect surface finish.

For surface corrections, there is a coordinating touch-up stick

for every decor.

Seek online and you will find ...

Finding items for a particular board decor is easy when you visit

Ostermann’s homepage. In addition to being able to search text within

the entire range, an additional search function “Everything for your

Board” is available. All you have to do is enter the board decor in this

search field, which you will find on the introductory page: the list of

hits shows not only matching edgebands but also corresponding wall

sealing profiles, edge touch-up sticks, buffer edges or cornice profiles.

Once a suitable article has been found, it can be conveniently

transferred to the online shop and ordered. We are available on

the web at www.ostermann.eu.

processing guidelines for RESOPAL®, RESOPAL®

on substrate, RESOPAL® Massiv, RESOPLAN®

and WILSONART® Solid Surface:

For professional processing of our products we

recommend that you use our detailed processing

documentation.

Storage

• In closed storage rooms, protected against

moisture

• Under normal climatic conditions (20°C,

40-70 % relative humidity)

• Fully supported and lying flat (horizontally)

on pallets, flat bases, etc.

• The topmost board of a stack covered

completely

Sawing

• With all woodworking machinery and hard

metal equipped circular saw bench blades

• Optimum tooth pitch for circular saws

10–15 mm, for WILSONART® diameter

approx. 300 mm/Z=72-96

• Speed 3000–4000 rpm

• Cutting speed 40–100 m/s, for RESOPAL®

on substrate 40–60 m/s

• Feed speed 10 m/s, for RESOPAL®

10–30 m/s

• As from 3 mm board thickness also with

portable circular saws from the back of the

board

Compass saws can be used only conditionally,

absolutely unsuitable for WILSONART® Solid

Surface.

Milling

• Spindle moulding machines with hard metal

equipped cutters

• Cutting tool diameter approx. 100 mm

• Speed 3000–6000 rpm, for RESOPAL®

10000 rpm

• Cutting speed 15–30 m/s, for RESOPAL®

approx. 60 m/s for spindle moulding

machines and approx. 15 m/s for surface

milling benches

• Form inside corners always with a radius

of 7–13 mm, to avoid notch cracks

• Surface milling benches can also be used,

for WILSONART® cutting tool diameter

approx. 15–60 mm, speed 8000–16000 rpm

Drilling

• Drills should be suitable for plastics: twist

drills with tip angle of 60–80°

• Cutting speed for HSS drills approx. 0.8 m/s,

for hard metal drills (HM) up to

approx. 1.6 m/s

• Drilling hole diameter at least 10 % greater

than the screw shank for through screws

• Do not use countersunk head screws!

Use only HM, no auger or gimlet bits for

WILSONART® Solid Surface!

Glueing RESOPAL® and WILSONART® SSV

• With all commercially available glues and

adhesives on stress-free substrates with flat

surface such as chipboards, wood fiber

boards or veneer boards; for WILSONART®

Solid Surface adhesive WA 3001 and edge

adhesive WA 8215 (SK 200)

• Pressing temperature according to the data

of the adhesive manufacturer from room

temperature to 70°C

• Make sure that the backing laminate is

symmetrical!
